USHRA ATLANTA MONSTER JAM!!
JANUARY 14TH, 2006 - GEORGIA DOME
FREESTYLE COMPETITION
GUN SLINGER
Scott Hartsock in Gun Slinger came out "Cocked, Locked, & Ready to Rock" leading off in Freestyle. He had a decent run but it was lacking the big air everyone was expecting. Scott tried a power wheelie and just couldn't get the front end up very high. He would finish with a score of 15.
COWBOY
Next out would be Scott's teammate, Steve Reynolds in Cowboy. He had a good run, getting better air than Gun Slinger did, and keeping up good momentum. Steve's score was a respectable 22.
HOT WHEELS
Hot Wheels came out next. Rob Knell was charging hard right at the start, and hit the crush cars with a full head of steam. He hit hard and got a little sideways in the air and bounced to the other side, flipped over the truck!! You could tell Rob was disgusted in the interview with Scott Douglas. But Rob was OK and the only damage on the truck looked to be body damage. His score was only a 9 however, having gone out on the first hit.
SAFE AUTO MINIMIZER
The rookie Mark McDonald came out next in Safe Auto. Mark put on a good show, getting good air and even trying a power wheelie. He hit the bus, but didn't get much air. Overall, it was a solid run for the new Safe Auto driver. He scored a 14 for his efforts.
REPTOID
Jim Jack was up next in Reptoid. Jim came out and hit the cars from both sides and hit the bus, but like everyone else, he didn't really get good air off of the bus. His score was only a 12.
BRUTUS
Chris Bergeron in Brutus came roaring out of his pit stall and hit the crush cars hard!! He got great air.....definitely the biggest of the night. He turned right around and hit the bus getting great air off of it. When he landed, you could tell that he had hurt the shocks on the rear of the truck. But that wasn't going to stop Chris. He hit the FMX dirt hill backwards, then turned around and hit it forward. He got good air but with those rear shocks being trashed, there wasn't much to soften the blow of 10,000 lbs. coming down from that high. It landed so hard that it kicked the rear end up into the air and then it started to barrel roll!! It did a complete barrel roll and landed on its wheels. From my observation, Chris broke some 4 link bars, the rear driveshaft, and tore the shocks off the axle housing. His score was a 25 for his incredible run, which gave him the lead!!
TRAXXAS T-MAXX
Trying to follow up the awesome run by Chris Bergeron in Brutus was Carl Van Horn in T-Maxx. Carl and the crew thrashed on the truck to get the sway bar mount fixed on it. Carl came out flying and hit the cars and got great air. He turned it around and hit the FMX hill and aired it out on that jump too. But the truck suddenly shut down. The officials went over to the truck to check it out and no one could figure out what was wrong with it. So they got the loader out and pushed the truck back into his pit stall. His score was only an 8.
WAR WIZARD
Then, to everyone's surprise, War Wizard backed out of the tunnel. Randy Moore and the team thrashed on that truck all night long, and got it ready in time to freestyle. Randy came out carrying a lot of momentum and hit the crush cars really fast. He got big air but the truck was sideways in the air!! The truck landed on the right side and you could see that the truck had some serious suspension damage. The truck was leaning all the way over to the left side and when he turned to the left, it flopped over to the right side. Then, he stopped the truck and it leveled up. It was pretty cool but as soon as the truck started moving again, it fell back over to the right. I don't know if they scored that run, but if they did, I didn't catch the score.
Chris Bergeron in Brutus continued to hold the lead with a score of 25, but his teammate, Mr. Excitement Jim Kohler was up next, and Rod Schmidt in Grave Digger 19, and Tom Meents in Max D were still to come!! Click below to see how the night finished up!! |
