FREESTYLE COMPETITION

Finally, the waiting was over.  It was time for some Monster Truck Freestyle action!!  15 trucks would be taking part in the Freestyle competition, and the drivers drew for the order in which they would make their runs.  Sitting out the competition were Bruce Haney in Bad News Travels Fast and Doug Charles in Extreme Overkill 2.  The Extreme Overkill 2 truck had suffered a broken rear-drive shaft and yoak, while the Haneys had only come to the event to test out their truck in racing.

The event would be scored by 7 judges, 2 from Amsoil, 2 from the East Bay Raceway (a nearby race track), and 3 people from a fairgrounds in Virginia that has hosted PSM shows for years.  They would judge each run from 1-10, with the high and low scores being thrown out, for a maximum score of 50.

Click on the green links below each truck for a large batch of pictures from their Freestyle run.  Each truck's score is given as well, with the final results being posted at the bottom of this page.  Enjoy!!

FREESTYLE FINAL RESULTS

Congratulations to James Tigue II for becoming the first ever PSM World Finals Freestyle Champion!!  On a personal note from The Monster Blog, we are very excited to congratulate James on his big win, having gotten a chance to talk with him a few times and finding him to be an awesome guy!!

As far as the judges went Bryan didn't agree with all of their calls but didn't disagree with some of them either.  Bryan thought the Bigfoot trucks had much better runs than what they were scored, but outside of that, he thought everything was fair.  There was also some miscue on the Rampage truck's score as he only got four scored judges, instead of five, resulting in his last place finish.  But aside from that, that is how judging goes, everyone's got an opinion when it comes to Monday Quarterbacking them.

Both Teague and Paul Shafer had great runs with HUGE slap wheelies off the bus by both of them.  Though the two driver's final scores were tied, Teague's total score was higher than Shafer's, so Teague wins the tie-breaker and the title, not to mention the 6 foot trophy!!
