My wife Lynette and I were
retuning home from Missouri where we were able to visit for a few days
with our son Ross ("The Monster Blogger"), his wife Rajeana, and our
awesome eight month old grandson Zane, when we came upon a really
unexpected surprise out on the highway. We were west of
Denver, traveling through the Rockies, when we came upon a camper towing
an unusual looking vehicle. All we could see from afar was the rear
of the vehicle, so we couldn't really tell what it was. Lynn asked
me, “What is that?", and just as I was getting up closer, I could see the
big tires in the front of the trailer and I said, “It’s a Monster Truck!!”
I slowed way down as Lynn called Ross, and he told her that “Natural High”
was returning home after doing an event for the Monsters of Destruction
TV series.

We started trying to figure out how to let the driver, Kelvin Ramer, know
that we were with The Monster Blog, as the Trailblazer, unlike my
Silverado, doesn't have a CB radio (that would have been too easy, lol).
As Lynn was looking for a piece of paper, I remembered that we keep two
Sharpies in our camera backpack. I slowed down to let Kelvin pass me
while Lynn was writing on the paper, “WE ARE WITH THE MONSTER BLOG”, lol.
Lynn held up the paper as I passed and honked the horn at Kelvin.

At this time I must point out that we are going up the Rocky Mountains and
Kelvin is driving a huge camper, towing a heavy Monster Truck. I
didn't know if he had seen the sign, so I figured I would pull over and
let him pass me, and then maybe meet up with them at the next stop.
Now, poor Kelvin has no idea what I am thinking, and he pulls in behind
me, so I jump out to introduce myself, and to see if Kelvin can pull off
for few minutes and visit. Being the very nice guy that he is, he
says sure, and I tell him I will follow him. We are on the side of a
very busy interstate and I want to get going and both of us back on the
road safely, so I run and jump back in the Trailblazer. I put it
back in drive to pull up so Kelvin can get a good start before merging in
the right lane, when I look and see Lynn is not there. She didn't
know if Kelvin would pull off up the mountain somewhere later, so she had
jumped out and used the opportunity to start taking pictures, lol.
What a mess, but it is all very funny as we look back on it.

Finally, we are all going back up the mountain safely!! Kelvin
pulled over a few miles up, near a ski area. We started taking
pictures of Kelvin and the truck and watched as skiers and snowboarders
came over to take a look at the truck. Kelvin was keeping a sharp
eye on his six year old son Ben while we were talking, who seemed very
happy to be out of the camper for a while, and was playing in the snow.

Kelvin was on a midwest swing for the M.O.D. TV series that had seen him
compete in Del Rio, TX the week before, and was supposed to compete in
another of their events in Grayson, KY the next week, but the event had
been cancelled. Making the best of a tough situation, Kelvin and his
son had spent a couple days in Indiana with relatives, and then began the
long trek home.

Kelvin told us that he used to
run a trucking company and had a fleet of trucks, but had sold all but
five of them. His brother takes care of the trucking business while
he performs at events across the country with Natural High. Kelvin
tells us that he is having a lot of fun with Natural High and performs in
some WGAS events. That gave us something in common as WGAS is one of
our sponsors, and Ross does their website. I will be covering a WGAS
show in Phoenix in a couple of weeks, but we should get to see Natural
High in action in Laughlin, NV in May for an Outlaw Monster Truck
Spectacular event. We are really looking forward to seeing these
great folks again!!

It is really fun when you are
out driving and meet really nice people like Kelvin and his son Ben.
Lynn and I had to hit the road again as we had a long way to go back to
Tuba City, AZ. Not quite as far as Kelvin did, though as he said he hoped
to be home by Monday night.
Ross tells us that Natural High will have a new website up soon, but in
the mean time, if you ever want to get in touch with them, head on over to
the Monster Blog Fan Forum. Great folks to visit and do business
with, and it was a pleasure to meet them. Can't thank Kelvin enough
to take the time to stop and visit with some Monster Truck fans!!
Until next time, take care, and thanks for reading!!
