THE FREESTYLE COMPETITION (continued)
MCGRUFF
Next out was Rod Wood in McGruff. Rod was looking to take a bite of the competition on this night, and put on a great show, getting plenty of air on his jumps, doing some great wheelies, and making an off balance jump at the end, almost turning over. I had learned earlier from speaking with Rod Wood, that his 15 year old son Murph, would be driving Monster Trucks next year, after getting his drivers license. I did not even look at Rod Wood’s score, as I learned quick, that the judge’s had no idea what was going on. However, this run would be given a 23, and while maybe a couple of points low, a decent score.
TUFF COUNTRY
Paul Jensen in Tuff Country would be next to tackle the course. Paul handled his oversized Hummer very well, getting great air on the jumps, but about halfway through his run, the engine started smoking badly. He managed to finish the run, with what looked like an overheating problem. In a few seconds everyone knew that the truck was getting hot, as you could see flames beneath the truck. Problems kept this from being Paul Jensen’s night, but we sure look forward to seeing him compete again. Good job Paul, keep up the good performances. Tonight, a score of 15 for Tuff Country.
SAFE AUTO MINIMIZER
Mark McDonald in Safe Auto roared out to the track for his run. Mark was all over the arena with some wild jumps. With the donuts Mark was doing, one would have thought he was the top cop in Phoenix (reference to earlier humor, lol). They were awesome, and on his jumps, he had enough air to keep life on Mars breathing for months. Mark McDonald in Safe Auto's score was a 22, just barely missing taking the lead from Rod Wood in McGruff.
