THE FREESTYLE COMPETITION (continued)
BATMAN
The Racing Champion from tonight, Jason Childress in Batman was ready to go!! He had been performing at a very high level all night, and I was very excited to see what he had in store for Freestyle!! We would not be disappointed as Jason did indeed look like a superhero this night. Batman was flying, doing wheelies, doing donuts & then flying high some more. I thought his Freestyle was the best to this point, however he did not flip his truck, so he didn't sweep the event. It’s a shame that you have judges that expect you to destroy your truck to be considered the winner in the Freestyle competition. Jason Childress was robbed by the judges, receiving a score of only 22.
GRAVE DIGGER
The stadium sound system began to play that familiar "Da-da-da-da-dum....Da-da-da-da-dum", and you knew that the next truck would have to be the only truck that is considered "Bad to the Bone." The red lights came on, and Rod Schmidt in Grave Digger roared onto the track. He would put on a Freestyle run that will not be soon forgotten by those who saw it. Besides doing everything else that the others did, he spun a donut between the two mounds of dirt and came shooting out of the donut with a leap over the mound getting serious air, and sending dirt flying everywhere!! He was so pumped up, that he kept right on going after his 90 seconds. It seemed like nothing could stop the Digger, but unfortunately that was not the case.
It would be the truck of another competitor that would bring the Digger to a stop. Rod Schmidt came out of an ill-advised jump over the two cars setup in between the ATV doubles, and was completely out of control. He ended up going end over end, and as he was coming back on his wheels, still trying to save the truck, he smashed the front end of Grave Digger hard onto the rear end of Kreg Christensen's parked Dragon Slayer. It was after learning of his score that Rod Schmidt took the microphone from the announcer and gave his opinions on the fan's judging that night. Rod Schmidt’s score was only a 23, but more importantly and surely to cause more controversy than poor judging, another competitor's truck had been severely damaged.

So, after a wild and controversial end to Grave Digger's Freestyle, Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter would be the next out to Freestyle, gunning for the top score of 25, currently held by Lee O'Donnell in Monster Mutt. Click below to see the end of the competition!! |
