EXTREME MONSTER TRUCK NATIONALS

SOUTH POINT EVENTS CENTER - LAS VEGAS, NV - 1/13-14/07

By Lauren Z. Bonar - (continued)

Arriving Sunday, I was really unsure of the attendance this day. I did not get the seating capacity of the new facility, but it will hold a lot. Looking at the pictures, it may seem like not many people showed up, however this would be an unfair judgment due to the size of the arena. With the NFL playoffs going on, there still was a pretty large crowd for a Sunday afternoon monster truck event. In my opinion, it is just another sign of how the sport of Monster Trucks is growing when fans choose attending a monster truck show over staying home and watching the NFL playoffs.

WHEELIE CONTEST

Wheelie Contest:  Kreg Christensen in Spiderman was up first and once again I was not ready for a Spiderman Wheelie as I was in line getting the "video lady" a drink and missed the first shot. Isaiah Morales was up next in Hot Tamale and looked as if he was getting ready for freestyle has he made more of a jump and got too much air for a Wheelie. Next up was Mike Hawkins in Equalizer and it looked as if Equalizer did the same as Hot Tamale, getting more air and not much of a Wheelie. This team was excited and ready to go, wanting to forget wheelies & racing and go straight to freestyle!  Keith Sturgeon in Big Foot was out next and completed a very nice Wheelie. Kreg Christensen in Spiderman was ready for round two and let everyone in the house know who the king of Wheelies was this weekend. Hot Tamale again got too much air. Equalizer put up a very nice Wheelie, while Big Foot did not match his first one. Winner, Spiderman! Pictures below:

RACING COMPETITION

ROUND ONE

Racing: Isaiah Morales in Hot Tamale versus Keith Sturgeon in Big Foot in the first heat. The Hot Tamale driver was thinking win and not about stopping after the finish line as he took the victory before slamming on the brakes and hitting the wall softly, no damage to the truck, but you could tell this young man was serious.

Mike Hawkins in Equalizer versus Kreg Christensen in Spiderman is next. Spiderman got a slow start as Equalizer took this one by about a truck length.

Isaiah Morales in Hot Tamale versus Kreg Christensen in Spiderman was next, Spiderman had the lead going into the second set of cars, but Hot Tamale flew to victory, not worried about stopping this time as he directed Hot Tamale through the tunnel to the pits.

Keith Sturgeon in Bigfoot versus Mike Hawkins in Equalizer to see who would meet Hot Tamale in the Finals and it would be Equalizer who has been on a roll all weekend beating Bigfoot by about a half of a truck length.

So once again, it is teammates in Hot Tamale and Equalizer to see who will be the racing victor. Equalizer takes it by a truck length.

FREESTYLE COMPETITION

Freestyle: Every driver put on a show, Bigfoot did pretty good limping on that repaired tire. It really surprised me The air he got and the donuts he did on that tire knowing he had to compete in Texas the following weekend. Spiderman, Kreg Christensen went all out putting on a great show for the fans, it really did look like a Super Hero. Isaiah Morales in Hot Tamale literally drove the fender and tail gate off Hot Tamale, but there was no beating Equalizer and the air he got off the FMX hill. Pictures below.
