MEGA MONSTER TRUCK TOUR Recap of this Summer's action on the MEGA Monster Truck Tour Courtesy of "MEGA Dave" Jackson!!
May 25th-26th - Dodge City, KS
The Mega Monster Truck Summer Tour is everything and more it was anticipated to be. The Mega Monster Summer Tour kicked off Memorial weekend in Dodge City, KS with cold temps and 40 mph winds the loyal fans came out none the less to the Dodge City Raceway Park for two great nights of Monster Trucks and more. King Krunch driven by David Smith who was fresh off his appearances in the World Finals in Las Vegas owned the 2 nights with first place finishes in Racing and Freestyle.
However Bill Payne in the new Rock Star was not to be denied in Freestyle tying King Krunch with perfect 30 scores from the judges. Friday Night Rock Star also took second in racing and El Matador piloted by Darin Basil took third. On Saturday Night, Barbarian out of Miami, OK owned and driven by Devin Jones took second in racing and El Matador repeated with a third place finish.
June 2nd - Sheridan, WY On to Sheridan, WY for one big night with Rock Star, High Voltage, Poison and Shattered. It was a four truck showdown and Rock Star once again came away with a huge perfect 30 freestyle score. In Racing it was Scott Andersons transformed Arachnaphobia to Poison Dodge body style who went to the winners circle. Rock Star took 2nd in racing, Shattered took 3rd and High Voltage driven by rookie Jamie Rush came in 4th. June 8th-9th - Pocatello, ID Pocatello, ID was stop number 3 on the tour and rain plagued the track building efforts till late Friday afternoon right before the 3:00 pm Hot Rod Show for the fans who walk in the seating area to see. B.J. Johnson and his crew went over and above building a great track for Monster Trucks, Tuff Trucks, ATV Quads, Show-N-Shine and Burn Out Contest. In Racing Friday Night Jennifer Consoliver drove the Miss Monster Moose to the finals win beating Poison off the line. It was a very controversial finals race as Scott Anderson claimed Miss Jen jumped the green. Track Officials were summed for a meeting at the end of the debate and the final word was radio’d to the Announcer Dave “Jackson” Hobson, on the mic he said the official result “After track official deliberation your Friday night Racing Champion is Miss Monster Moose” it may sound old hat but literally the crowd went wild. Third place went to the newcomer to the tour Ron Duncomb in Maverik Monster Trakker from Utah. Freestyle was absolutely owned by Bill Payne in Rock Star as, yes, you guessed it he scored another perfect 30 score. Saturday night racing it was all Maverik Monster Trackker who dialed in the big block Chevy 540 and ran away with the Saturday night title. Second was awarded to High Voltage and Jamie Rush’s best finish of his career. Third went to Poison. Then it was time to turn him loose again, of course we are talking about Rock Star, Bill Payne from Bremerton, WA who takes the old style leaf spring suspension style Monster Trucks and turns them into absolute crowd favorites each and every time he pulls out for Freestyle. Another perfect 30 for the Rock Star. June 16th - Sedalia, MO
Sedalia, Mo was the next stop on June 16, 2007. Team Dodge Hall Bros. Racing with Mark Hall in Raminator and Geremie Dishman in Rammunition made their presence known right off the bat. Geremie Dishman’s Rammunition took fast qualifying time as Mark Hall’s Raminator took the last qualifying spot due to an electrical problem with his RII.
But do not count out the MTRA Driver of the Year many times over as Mark Hall took the 2000 Horse Power Dodge Hemi Powered Monster Truck to the Finals through the brackets and beat out Dodge teammate Rammunition for 1st in Side By Side Racing.
Then it was time for Freestyle. Devin Jones in Barbarian set the bar high with a 26 score. High Voltage fared well with Jamie Rush in the seat. Then Rammunition came out and blew the Missouri State Fairgrounds up with a series of spinning Donuts and High Flyin Wheelies. A perfect 30 score for the “G-Man”.
Raminator flew over the crush cars like they were ants and scored a 29. Finally Bill Payne in Rock Star hit the track with a vengeance to try and keep his perfect 30 summer going. Bill went crazy and the race fans responded with another perfect 30.
June 22nd-23rd - Kalispell, MT Kalispell, MT the final June stop on the tour was very eventful. The backdrop of snow peaked mountains seen from the grandstands at the Flathead County Fairgrounds made for a perfect weekend. The Monster Trucks came into the event thinking they were going to drag race on the straight line track but when BJ Johnson got through building the track the drivers were surprised to see a “J” style race course ahead of them…”it really separated the men from the boys commented Bill Payne the owner driver for “Rock Star”. Friday Night Public Disturbance driven by Brad Campbell ran away with the 1st place finish as Brad is very experienced in “J” style racing. Time for Freestyle and the Scott Anderson Team of Shattered and Poison Monster Trucks had mechanical issues and could not make the call to the track. High Voltage scored well, Public Disturbance had huge hit on the cars but Rock Star had the unbeaten streak on the line….and away he went starting out his run with the patented reverse wheelie dragging the front on the ground for 75 feet looking like a Monster Truck Moon Walk. Then he turned the new Chevy loose with a series of high flyin jumps crushing the school bus on two wheels. Then he backed it up to the fence and lit it rip flyin over the super kicker wheelie ramp 50 feet in the air and on the landing bounced so hard the Rock Star flipped end over end and demolished the truck. Bill was OK and yes another perfect 30 freestyle score. Saturday night in racing Public Disturbance took his big Ford to the winners circle again making a clean sweep of 1st place racing finishes for Kalispell. However, In round 1 High Voltage and Rock Star lined up in a race that would see one of the worst Monster Truck crashes in recent history. Bill Payne in Rock Star hit the gas and flew so high and landed so hard that the truck went end over end again coming very close to hitting the rodeo shoots on the far end of the arena. Once again Bill was OK but this time the Rock Star Monster Truck was not. The roll cage was crushed, body torn completely off the truck left rear tire came off, and more damage to the engine and rear end was later assessed. High Voltage won Freestyle with a 29 with Bill Payne taking over the driver duties for Jamie Rush. Coming Soon!!
