FREESTYLE COMPETITION (continued)
CYBORG
Having a tough act to follow, Jack Koberna brought the Cyborg truck out for his Freestyle run. This is the part of the competition where the 2WD seems to be the biggest liability, as Koberna never really was able to keep up much momentum during the run. He got some decent hits on the cars, and really smashed down the van stack, but nothing too spectacular from the Albuquerque, NM native. Koberna would receive a score of only 14 for his efforts.
BOB & TOM
Taking to the track next would be rookie driver Chuck Warner in the Bob & Tom Ford. Warner kept up a good pace, getting some nice air over the cars, and off the van stack. After a few passes, Warner tried to get a donut going in the center of the floor, but was unable to get the truck to hook up. After a couple of wide rotations trying to get the truck into a donut, Warner nailed the gas in one last attempt. The truck hooked in the dirt, and over he went right next to the parked King Krunch machine!! The crowd went wild as Warner emerged from the truck, saluting his Freestyle run. The judges seemed overly swayed by the rollover, and awarded Chuck a score of 26. Was the run of Bob & Tom better than that of Rolling Thunder? Definitely not in my opinion, but your new leader according to the judges was Chuck Warner!!
EL MATADOR
After being eliminated in the first round, Daron Basl was ready to show the crowd what the El Matador was capable of. Basl started the run off strong, getting some nice air over the carsets, and hitting all of the obstacles. About halfway through the run however, something seemed to go wrong with the truck, as the engine just didn't sound right. Basl continued on however, filling the clock, but the mechanical difficulties seemed to hurt his performance. Nonetheless, el Matador would receive a generous 25 from the judges for his efforts.
KING KRUNCH
Following up his teammate would be David Smith in King Krunch. Smith lived up to his reputation as a solid Freestyler, keeping up a lot of momentum in his run, filling the whole clock, and using the whole track. Smith's run was highlighted by an awesome set of donuts, and a very nice slap wheelie off one of the carsets. Smith played to the judges as he ended his run, sliding King Krunch right over to edge of the portion of the arena where the judges sat, revving up the engine for them before popping out of the truck. The run was very solid, but the final touch seemed to score him a couple of extra points, as the scores came up for a total of 28!!
Three trucks left to run in Freestyle, see if anyone can beat David Smith's score of 28!! |
