Linsey Weenk more than made up for any bad luck he had been having, laying down a great run to end his weekend. It was still tight between Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter and Dan Runte in Summit Bigfoot. The fan judges still were not giving Don “out of control” Frankish his due as he was not only driving Maniac, but living up to the trucks name.

The big story this event, other than everyone else's great performance, was "Psycho" Sam Sturges. First let me say, everyone has something they just don’t like!  Myself, I can’t stand peas or pickles. All in attendance Sunday at Firebird learned that Sam Sturges has a strong dislike for stages.lol  How do I know that you ask?  The stage was set up facing the fans in the stands with a Banner--earlier in the day Sam had already hit the stage taking down the banner giving the crowd a better view and they really appreciated it with a standing ovation!  For this event, Anna Hackett had the Trophies lined up on the stage ready to present after the Freestyle runs. Now to explain Sam’s dislike for stages--Sam started out his freestyle event in typical Sam fashion, great jumps and awesome wheelies. As earlier in the day, Sam hit the tires getting ready for another wheelie, which he did, but again he hit the stage--This time, he destroyed it!!  He stopped leaned out the window, looked down, looked back up, and then waved to the crowd.  Another standing ovation for Sam, but this time, he also got all the trophies. When I spoke with Sam later he said, “I have never gotten so many trophies at once in my whole life." Now that’s humor folks!!

Trophy time!!  Dan Runte in Summit Bigfoot just edges out Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter, taking home the huge trophy for being the weekend's overall winner.  Jimmy gets the 2nd place trophy, while Linsey Weenk takes a recognition award as well. "Psycho" Sam received the "Most Carnage" award.  There should have been three more awards in my opinion as this was a lot of fun and all the drivers were spectacular.

You've seen the pictures, but Lynn did an awesome job taking video footage all weekend long as well. Ross was able to take her footage and put together a rockin' 11 minute highlight video of all the action. You can check it out in the Video section or by clicking the link below. Its only 35MB, and well worth the wait to download.

And that's all for the fall Firebird show. Anna Hackett, our contact from Firebird International Raceway, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.  We appreciate the opportunity to cover this event and cannot say enough kind things about Anna and the rest of the Firebird staff.  There were no problems with security, parking personnel were perfect getting fans in and parked. Over 100 vendors, hundreds of show trucks and everyone was considerate during the extreme heat. This is by far my favorite monster truck venue to cover and Lynn and I cannot wait for the Spring 2007 Monster Truck & Jet Car Jam!! As always, we thank you for reading, feel free to stop by the Fan Forum and let us know what you thought of the Coverage!!
