MAVERIK CLASH OF THE TITANS

ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAY - WEST LAKE CITY, UT - 08/11-12/07

FREESTYLE COMPETITION

BLACKSMITH

Aaron Basl in Blacksmith would be leading off in freestyle. Aaron had a very fine freestyle doing some awesome donuts. He got so much air going over a van stack, he never touched the van. There was a 1951 Chrysler on the field. This 1951 had only one owner in its 56 years of life and it turns out the owner did not want it to have a second owner. He donated this car to be crushed, insisted it be crushed. His identity was never announced that I heard, but he requested that no parts be taken off of it (other than glass being smashed out) and that it be demolished. Aaron tried to hit it, but every time he went for it, he went right over it--the thing was indestructible!

GRAVE DIGGER

Pablo Huffaker in Grave Digger was the last truck out, and he hit everything in site, having a great run with a couple donuts, wheelies and some high flying action. Pablo was the winner by fan applause in the Freestyle competition. So Pablo Huffaker swept the Sunday event!!

The reason I tell you about the those two first is because we are not allowed to show any footage. The rest of freestyle you will be able to view in the Video section. You will not see Daron Basl in El Matador as during racing he left gears all over the track and was broke. David Smith in King Krunch took second in Racing, but just could not make it out for freestyle. Maverik Monster Trakker’s Remote Ignition Interrupter (RII) was not working, so Ron Duncombe rode around the track and then back to the pits.

Doug Charles in Monster Patrol got a wheelie, Larry Swim in Bear Foot did an excellent job with just first & second gear. Keith Sturgeon went over the Chrysler & came down directly on the wheelie bar causing some frame damage to Bigfoot. Dan Runte did his thing in Firestone Bigfoot, but just could not get that wheelie, instead subsituting some nice donuts. Roger Stidel in Captain USA performed one of the longest wheelies ever at RMR per the flag man, giving him second place in freestyle. Paul Jensen in Kaptain Insano & Kreg Christensen in Dragon Slayer put on very good performances, with Dragon Slayer taking third overall in freestyle. See below for photos:

THE FINAL WORDS

It was a great weekend in Salt Lake City, and I sure do hope the fine staff at RMR will invite us back next year. We had a great time and I cannot thank Mark Pittman and the entire RMR crew enough for their hospitality. It is a beautiful facility and we highly encourage all monster truck fans to attend next year, as this event is one of the largest of the year. Thanks to the drivers and teams for all the hard work in putting on a great show for the fans. We hope everyone enjoys the article, video, and pictures. Thanks for reading, see you next time!
