FREESTYLE

BLUE THUNDER

Was really excited to see what the Ford corporate truck Blue Thunder could do, but unfortunately after about only two jumps, the Blue Thunder truck broke a tire rod on the second jump, which was, with all due credit, spectacular.  However, the run being so short earned a score of 13, which even seemed a little high considering the jump.

BOUNTY HUNTER

Jimmy Creten and the Bounty Hunter pulled off a solid, if unspectacular run.  Creten kept up the momentum pretty well, with some nice jumps and big air, but only enough for the judges to reward a score of 21.  Didn't get many pictures of this run, as I was fiddling with the camera again.

EL TORO LOCO

Time for Lupe Soza and the crazy bull!!  For some reason at this point, the USHRA officials decided now would be a good time to pull out an RV camper.  This was pretty exciting, but why not earlier?  Anyway, from the second El Toro Loco pulled out on the course, it was obvious where he was heading.  Loco launched off the car and wheelied over the RV, tearing the top of it up with the rear tires.  When landing, there was a huge explosion that rocked the stadium when one of the rear tires blew.  That was easily the loudest tire pop I've ever heard and the crowd went nuts.  One flat tire wasn't gonna be enough to stop Soza though, as he came back around and demolished the camper.  The damage to the truck was taking its toll now though, as El Toro had trouble getting over the bus jump, and parked it after a wheelstand on the set of cars!!  Great run, but a little too short to merit consideration for the lead.  Judges still gave, maybe a little overzealous, but a score of 19 for the run.  Only two trucks left, but with Anderson and Meents, you know the show has just begun!!
