MAXIMUM DESTRUCTION
Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction put on a freestyle that should never be forgotten, and certainly won't by my wife and I. Meents started his run by absolutely launching off the big jump and getting the best air of the night. Then, an incredible jump off the bus stack, and he drove around to the ATV hills. No other driver tried to tackle the ATV hills on the night, and Meents leaped over each one perfectly, getting HUGE air off the third and final one!! On the landing, the truck took a large bounce, and nearly flipped over, standing it on the nose, right up against the edge of the floor!! The most incredible save I have ever seen, and he was still going. Then it was after what was left of the RV, and back over to the double stacked cars. More incredible air, but on the landing, the rear wheel caught funny and ripped off as he drove over the RV debris!! The crowd went absolutely insane, as losing a wheel wasn't enough to stop Tom Meents!! He took the truck over the ATV mounds in the opposite direction, then jumped sideways off the double stacked cars, over the big jump, and then crushed the SPEED Channel display!! Crowd still going crazy, Meents whipped the truck around and tackled the bus set!! No way could a three wheeled truck make it over that huge obstacle, but Meents did it!! With time about to expire, Meents flipped the truck over, receiving a huge standing O from the sold out crowd in St. Louis!! Not sure what more one of the judges wanted to see, as they only awarded a 29, but in my book that was a perfect run. However, coming out next was the man himself, Dennis Anderson and the Grave Digger, and with one point to work with to try to beat arch rival Meents, you know Dennis was bringing his A game.
GRAVE DIGGER
The sport's icon, Dennis Anderson flew out onto the track, obviously determined to try to knock Meents off the top spot. Anderson kept up incredible momentum throughout the run, absolutely flying around the track. Anderson got some radical air off the bus stack, and off the double stacked cars. This was probably the most exciting moment of the run, as the truck launched sideways in mid-air and seemed headed for an incredible crash. But Anderson was on the gas the whole time and when the truck landed, he dug it out for a great save. He then went for the big jump and launched the highest altitude jump of the night, with a perfectly timed loss of the hood in mid-air!! The truck then started shooting showers of sparks (brakes, I think) throughout the rest of the run, and while spectacular, seemed to keep Anderson from being able to pull off the great ending he may have wanted. Seemed like the truck was shut down by the officials, probably because of all the sparks, but a great run for Anderson!! Crowd loved it, but not quite enough to knock off Meents, receiving a 28 from the judges!!
What a night and what a show!! After seeing an event like that, I was hooked on monster trucks once again!! This is the night that started all of this, and I am so glad to be a monster truck diehard fan, dedicated to my work here at THE MONSTER BLOG!!
