Bonar took a trip to Mexico earlier this month as part of the Sturges Motorsports crew to cover the first ever Mexicali Monster Trucks Showdown!!  The event was held at Estadio Nido de las Aguilas before a capacity crowd of over 20,000 and featured ten monster trucks competing in racing and freestyle. A huge thanks to Sam Sturges and his team for allowing us to tag along and cover this huge show for the site. Check out all the behind the scenes action by clicking the link below. Thanks & Enjoy!!  (05/31/07)

Memorial Day Weekend Monster Wars!!:  Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, GA was the battleground this past weekend as seven monster trucks competed in the Monster Wars!!  Mitch Tulachka in Get'Er'Done would take the racing win both evenings, while Mike Hawkins in Equalizer grabbed both freestyle victories. The event saw the debut of the War Eagle monster truck, owned by Michael Barnes who also operates the Old Glory monster ride truck. The War Eagle truck was purchased from Bob Shea, who previously ran it as Nemesis 3. Bennett Clark was also sporting a new look for the Monster Wars, running the truck as Outlaw. Monster Blog Staff Member Tommy Lee Byrd was on hand for the Friday night show, and a couple of his teaser photos can be seen below and his full gallery is coming soon. Our good friend David Kranak was at the Saturday show and was kind enough to send in a gallery of shots, so be sure to click the link below to check those out!!  (05/29/07)

Obsession Takes Night One In Monroe, WA - UPDATE!!:  WHR Motorsports brought monster trucks and more to Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA for Memorial Day Weekend, and it was Rick Swanson in Obsession celebrating victory on Saturday night!!  Swanson started the night by taking the top qualifier spot and getting a bye in the first round of racing. Obsession then took out Jennifer Consoliver in Monster Moose in the semi-finals to meet Keith Sturgeon and Bigfoot in the racing finale. In a great race, the trucks crossed the line side-by-side and both drivers thought they won, but the official call went to Obsession by a wheel!!  Freestyle would see all the trucks put on a good show for the Washington fans. The monsters are back in action today at Evergreen Speedway, and we'll have an update after the show has completed. Thanks to Lee Collins with WHR Motorsports for the recap!!
UPDATE: Rainy weather couldn't keep the Washington fans away, as a great crowd saw Rick Swanson in Obession take the weekend sweep of racing in Monroe, winning Sunday over Jennifer Consoliver in Monster Moose. At the time of our first update we were unsure of Saturday's freestyle winner, but we were informed that it was Kelvin Ramer in Natural High taking the win. Be sure to check out this week's Video of the Week to see Kelvin's run, as well as clips of Obsession, Bigfoot, and more from Saturday night. Consoliver, all charged up from the final round match-up, went out Sunday and put on a great freestyle to take the victory in Monster Moose. WHR Motorsports heads to Missoula, MT this weekend for more monster truck action!!  (05/29/07)

Ryan Anderson Wins At R/C Monster Jam World Finals!!: (Poplar Branch, NC)  Ryan Anderson, son of Grave Digger driver Dennis Anderson, has taken home the first place title in the Big Block Class Championship with his HPI Savage X 4.6 nitro truck at the 2007 RC Monster Jam World Finals. At 16 years old, Ryan has some previous R/C experience bashing around, but this was his first R/C competition, and he showed off his skills by taking the win. Ryan was cool, calm and collected with his driving and the impressive handling of his Savage X 4.6 moved the young Anderson up the boards to take the Big Block win. Ryan also took second place overall in the head-to-head battle of the Electric vs. Nitro class.

Ryan is waiting for the day when he can drive the full size monster trucks along side his famous father, Dennis Anderson and brother, Adam Anderson, driver of Taz. In his spare time Ryan is also wheeling an oversized mud-bogger based on a 1950’s Willy’s Pickup with more than 950 horsepower on tap, naturally aspirated and injected with methanol, and shod with super skinny paddle tires to cut through the mud. Mud bogging, like dirt oval racing is the feeder series for stock car racing, is the stepping stone to Monster Truck racing.
R/C driving is something the whole Anderson family and Digger Dungeon Shop staff enjoy for fun. In fact, their enthusiasm for R/C is the reason this event is held on the property of Dennis Anderson and family – right there in the side yard!
RC Monster Jam World Finals 2007 was the second season for this annual event hosted by Dennis Anderson at the Diggers Dungeon facility during the Memorial Day weekend. The 2007 event saw some 200+ vehicles in attendance! Stock up on your East Coast power bars (AKA: Twinkies) as 2008 will be even crazier!!!
HPI Racing would like to congratulate and thank all of the participants; this was truly a spectacular event!  Look for more news and tons of photos coming soon right here!  (05/29/07)

CFP and O'Reilly's Again!!: (Bridgeport, TX)  It is official, two of the greatest names in monster trucks and racing have teamed up again!  Late Friday evening before the Memorial Day Weekend the CFP Office got a conference call from the management of O’Reilly Auto Parts announcing they were officially going forward to once again offer their stores as ticket outlets for CFP events. “This will be good for our customers as anyone can feel comfortable purchasing tickets at O’Reillys Stores as they are staffed with friendly helpful people. This will be a good match and we at CFP will do all we can to make sure this is a good partnership”, said Ed Beckley of CFP.
Immediately O’Reilly Auto Parts will offer tickets for sale when CFP is in their area, “We are extremely excited and relieved that the O’Reilly’s group has opened these doors again to Checkered Flag”, said Beckley.
O’Reillys will soon take on a larger role with CFP and our race series as they recognize that CFP has a great following all over the United States. The CFP Winter National Racing Series and it’s exposure has done much for that plus the new Summer Slam Series is gaining popularity already. Discussed also were future goals and O’Reilly’s will soon start helping with advertising and exposure of the CFP events on sale in their stores, “This is something we have been needing for a long time and when it happens will be another day of celebration!,” said a smiling Ed Beckley.
The two companies will march forward to get tickets on sale for the June 29th and 30th Monster Truck Summer Slam Nationals in Garden City, Kansas. “Soon O’Reilly Auto Parts stores in Western Kansas will be setup, as the marketing department from O’Reilly’s is already working on making that happen”, said Beckley. “The future with these two companies getting together will be good for everyone and the sport and industry of monster trucks and all those involved with CFP”, Beckley said.
Garden City and Western Kansas will get two chances to see the CFP Monsters. No matter if it is raining or the sun is shining CFP will be bringing the monsters to Garden City on Friday and Saturday June 29th and 30th 7:30 PM each night at the Finney County Fairgrounds on the south side of Garden City. The event is being sponsored by Budweiser the King of Beers and the line-up of Monster Trucks is awesome. See the King of the Monster Trucks Bigfoot, plus T- Maxx, Sudden Impact, Reptoid, Viper, and the return of Pit Bull. Other special attractions will be FMX Motorcycle Jumpers, Tuff Trucks, and Atv Quad Races and more.
Tickets will be on sale soon, be watching the www.CheckeredFlagProductions.com for more information!!  (05/28/07)

Wild Saturday Night In Dodge City, KS!!:  The MEGA Tour was back in action Saturday night and the event featured another great night of racing and freestyle action. The finals in racing came down to teammates David Smith in King Krunch and Daron Basl in El Matador. The two blasted across the finish line nearly dead even!! The race was originally called for El Matador, but upon photo review (see below), the race was overturned as David Smith just barely inched out the win. In freestyle, Devin Jones in Barbarian set the bar incredibly high with a great run, but David Smith closed out the night with another great run as well leaving the decision up to the fans. In a narrow crowd vote, the win was given to David Smith giving King Krunch a sweep of the weekend's events!!

Next weekend the MEGA Tour will be in Sheridan, WY as Rockstar, Arachnaphobia, High Voltage, and Shattered battle it out Saturday night. For more information, head on over to www.megapromotionstour.com. Staff Member Lauren Z. Bonar was on hand for both of the Dodge City shows and we will have photos from racing and a highlight video from all the freestyle action coming in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!!  (05/27/07)

Outback Thunda Takes Wild Ride In Mackay!!:  The KC's Fireworks Monsters Tour of Destruction was in action last night in the land down under, bringing five monster trucks to the Mackay Motordome in Australia. Clive Featherby, going all out for the win in Outback Thunda, grabbed a great wheelstand up onto the bus stack in freestyle, but got into trouble as the truck flipped over backwards. Needless to say Clive was declared the freestyle winner for his efforts!!  A big thanks to Leon Manzelmann for the great photos of Outback Thunda's wild ride, and one of the new Scooby Doo truck in action!!  For more on the Monsters Tour of Destruction, head on over to www.KCsFireworks.com. Jamie Rush debuted behind the wheel of High Voltage and did a nice job for his first time out. Tomorrow night the monsters will be back in action at the raceway as Bill Payne and David Smith go head to head once again, along with El Matador, Barbarian, and High Voltage. Thanks to Monster Blog Staff Member Lauren Z. Bonar for the teasers from the Friday show--we'll have photos from the racing portion of the program and video from freestyle, so be watching for that here on the site!!  More to come tomorrow night!!  (05/25/07)

Monster Truck Thunder Drags in Lima, OH - UPDATE!!:  One of the biggest events on the 2007 Special Events Performance Series schedule is the 4 Wheel Jamboree in Lima, OH which takes place this weekend at the Allen County Fairgrounds. Monster Blog Staff Member Paul M. Harry and Special Contributor Kyle Doyle are both as eight monster trucks battle it out in five shows over the course of the three day weekend.
Friday night's action saw Dan Runte in Bigfoot #16 take out defending champ Geremie Dishman in Rammunition to meet Mark Hall in Raminator in the finals, who had defeated Charlie Pauken in Grave Digger. The final round match-up was a great race on the tricky S-course with Mark Hall taking the win.
UPDATE:  The first of Saturday's shows is in the books, and it was Mark Hall and Raminator taking yet another final round victory, over teammate Geremie Dishman and Rammunition. Mark defeated Big Dawg in the semi's, while Geremie took down War Wagon, who replaced Bigfoot as driver Dan Runte sat out after a hard landing in the previous round which injured his back.
Bigfoot teammate Bryan Bertoletti replaced Runte for freestyle, which would see more bad news for the Bigfoot team. Bertoletti grabbed some big air on a jump, and the truck landed on the rear tire, causing a hard roll-over.  Bertoletti was thankfully unhurt, but Bigfoot #16 suffered a couple flat tires and significant body damage.
We will keep you updated on the happenings in Lima as this weekend's 4 Wheel Jamboree continues!!  (05/19/07)

Major League of Monster Trucks Has Big Weekend In Merced!!:  The first Major League of Monster Trucks event of 2007 was this weekend in Merced, CA and the "Inferno Tour" kicked off with some hot action!!  The MLMT crew built a huge S-course racing track that produced some great racing throughout the course of the weekend. Dave Harkey drove Bigfoot to the win Friday night, taking out young Andrew Peckham in Tropical Thunder for the first win of the weekend. Carl Van Horn in T-Maxx took the freestyle win with big air off all the obstacles, finishing with some crazy cyclones.

Saturday night would see a sweep for Van Horn as he piloted T-Maxx to the win over King Krunch in the finals, and then put forth another great freestyle for the victory there as well. Bigfoot lost the motor in the first round of racing Saturday, and would be unable to return for the rest of the weekend, a disapointing end to one of Dave Harkey's last shows before retirement.
Sunday would be all King Krunch as David Smith took his turn at the top. Smith and team-mate Daron Basl in El Matador met in the finals, but King Krunch took the early lead and never looked back. It would take a big freestyle to keep Carl Van Horn from sweeping the weekend in that contest, but that was exactly with Smith brought to the table.
It was a great weekend for the California fans who were treated to three wild shows by the Major League of Monster Trucks. Check out www.MajorLeagueofMonsterTrucks.com for more on this weekend's show including photos, as well as more information on the 2007 Inferno Tour!! (05/16/07)

Scooby Doo Truck Makes Its Debut!!:  KC's Fireworks debuted their brand new Scooby Doo monster truck this past weekend at Quad Park Kawana Waters in Australia!!  The impressive new 3D body sits atop the chassis that was formerly run as Captain Crusher. Driven by young Billy Featherby, the truck got a great response from the over 11,000 people on hand. Thanks to Chris George with www.DownUnderMonsters.com for the photos and update and to Mark Hurley with amt.mtm2.com as well. Be sure to head on over to www.KCsFireworks.com for more information on the new Scooby Doo monster truck, and the 2007 Monsters Tour of Destruction!! (05/16/07)

Cra-Z-Boy Jet Recliner To Appear On "The Late Show"!!:  Mike West's Cra-Z-Boy Jet Recliner has been seen at Monster Nationals events and shows all around the country this year, but on Monday, May 21st, television viewers all over the world will see it on "The Late Show With David Letterman"!!  Be sure to check local listings so you can tune in and see Cra-Z-Boy on Letterman. The recliner uses two jet engines to propel it to "currently unknown" top speeds. For more information on the Cra-Z-Boy Jet Recliner, head on over to Wild West Entertainment's website at www.Megasaurus.com!!  (05/15/07)

Monster Spectacular Tour Update!!:  Quebec City got hit by a storm this past weekened--a MONSTER storm, not a snow storm this time!  More than 13,000 fans attended Chris Arel’s 18th anniversary event at the Quebec City Coliseum. Six of the world’s best monster truck were on hand for this unique event. Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter started things off by winning the wheelie contest. The racing finale saw Mike Vaters in Black Stallion take on Bounty Hunter. The race had to be held a second time as Jimmy Creten jumped the light, resulting in a 10 feet back from the start line penalty for the re-run. Vaters got the jump and never looked back, taking the victory. Jim Koehler in Avenger finish the show by taking the freestyle win. Canada's own Linsey Weenk is all excited to be back north of the border driving Iron Outlaw for six more weekends on the Monster Spectacular tour.
Other acts at the Quebec City show included Freestyle Motocross (Mike Vaters Jr. won it all), the Globe of Death (with the Ives family), and a world premiere oval race featuring two jet vehicles (T-58 class)!!  Tim Arfons in American Thunder won over Mike Vaters and Psycho. It was incredible racing action!!  A special tribute ceremony was held for Richard Arel, who built Canada’s first monster truck SUPERFOOT in 1983, as Richard just turned 60.
Next weekend the CAM team heads north for New Brunswick with three big shows scheduled (Fredericton on Friday, Moncton on Saturday & Bathurst on Sunday). Head over to www.ChrisArel.com for more information on this weekend's events!!  (05/15/07)

New England Dodge Motorsports Trailer Features HBR Trucks!!:  This is the official trailer (see below) of the New England Dodge Motorsports program, part of the New England Dodge Dealers’ Association. This trailer visits hundreds of motorsports events in the New England area over the course of the year, including the Essex Junction 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals. Raminator & Rammunition are featured as part of the eye-catching graphics, along with other Dodge-sponsored race vehicles, including Kasey Kahne’s #9 Dodge Charger. Thanks to Special Contributor Kyle Doyle for the update and the photo!! (05/15/07)

O'Reilly Outlaw Nationals Recap & Photos!!:  The annual O'Reilly Outlaw Nationals event in Miami, OK was held this weekend, and Monster Blog Staff Ross Z. Bonar and Lauren Z. Bonar were on hand for all of Friday night's action!!  Doug Noelke in Big Dawg defeated Andy Hoffman in War Wagon to take the racing victory, but Andy would be the night's freestyle winner.  Devin Jones in Barbarian, performing in his hometown show, took a wild roll after riding a wheelie off the cars and right into a tough truck hill, causing truck to go end over end. Needless to say he won the wheelie contest, although the damage would keep the truck from returning for freestyle.

Thanks to John Darnell and the MAP Motorsports crew for their hospitality at the event and their hard work to ensure the grounds would be ready for the show, as the Miami area has been hit hard by rain in the last week or so. As you'll see in the photo gallery, the flood waters of the Neosho River came all the way up to the far edge of the fairgrounds!  Click the link below for a full photo gallery from Friday night's show and be watching for the video which will be coming your way soon!!

Monster Truck Family On ABC's "Wife Swap"?:  I received the following email from Julia Jenkins, a casting producer for ABC's hit television show "Wife Swap". I know this has been floating around for a while, but surely some of you in the industry would make great candidates for the show. See below for more information:
"My name is Julia Jenkins and I am a casting producer for ABC families hit reality show 'Wife Swap'. We are currently casting for our fourth season and we are looking for MONSTER TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS. This has been something we have wanted to feature for 3 years and we are very interested in finding that GREAT family! We cast everywhere from Maine to California, and this would bring a fun and unique dynamic to the show.
We are currently casting for our third season, so don't miss out on this amazing experience! Families that appear on the show receive $20,000 as a thank you. If you are unfamiliar with the show, Wife Swap is a fascinating story of what happens when two married couples see them-selves and their spouses in a whole new light. Time Magazine calls Wife Swap "a riveting examination of family values." The New York Post says, "It should be called 'Life Swap' because it's not just the wives who learn something here. It's the families."
The premise of Wife Swap is simple: for seven days, two wives from two different families with very different values exchange husbands, children and lives (but not bedrooms) to discover what it's like to live a different woman's life.
Here at 'Wife Swap' we look for a two-parent home with at least one child between the ages of 6 and 17 living at home fulltime. If you have a family and you are interested in applying for the show, or if you know of any great families that you would like to refer, please contact us through email at wifeswap.julia@gmail.com. Please provide details in your email!!
Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you!"  (05/11/07)

Monster Blog Weekend Update!!:  This weekend we are off to Miami, OK for the annual MAP Motorsports event at the Miami Fairgrounds. My wife Rajeana and I will be meeting our south-west coverage staff, my parents Lauren & Lynette, at the event as they travel out here to Missouri for a family visit. Wouldn't you just know we would plan it around a monster truck show!!  The lineup will feature Big Dawg, War Wagon, Barbarian, Instigator, Amsoil Shock Therapy, and Bearfoot and has the makings of a great show if Mother Nature will be kind enough to cooperate.
We strive to not show favoritism when we cover events, but I will make no secret out of the fact that we will be pulling for Wayne Tigue in Amsoil Shock Therapy to pull off a couple wins in memory of nephew Chad, who passed away unexpectedly this week. Our thoughts and prayers are still with you and your family James!!  (05/11/07)

Our Condolences To The Tigue Family:  We were deeply saddened today upon hearing the news of the sudden death of Chad Tigue, Bearfoot driver James Tigue's sixteen-year-old son. We will be keeping James and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we encourage everyone to do the same. James will not be at the Miami, OK show this weekend, so Shafer Motorsports teammate Rich Inman will be filling in behind the wheel of Bearfoot. Brother Wayne Tigue will be racing the Amsoil truck in memory of Chad. Our deepest sympathies to our good friend James and his family. (05/09/07)

The Aces High "Shell-Camino" Is Here!!:  The Aces High El Camino monster truck is one of the most recognizable in the sport's history, and for years Ron and Shelley Kujat have kept the truck in pristine condition, traveling around and showing off the beautifully detailed, fire-breathing piece of history. But the itch to have a competition truck was always there, and so about a year ago the Kujat's purchased Andy Hoffman's old Nitemare chassis. In the time since, they created a custom mold of a 1972 El Camino SS to produce a fiberglass body for the new race truck. The cage had to be cut down and rebuilt to fit the new El Camino body, which features a sharp new design. Still using the "Aces High" name on the rear quarter panels, Ron and Shelley wanted to give the new truck its own identity as well and came up with the clever "Shell-Camino".

After lots of long hours and hard work, the new truck made its debut at the Nothin' But Trucks Show in Hastings, MI this past weekend. Shelley made only a few hits before the truck suffered an unfortunate broken rear axle, but the truck performed well and they were very pleased with its performance.

The Shell-Camino will be performing at the New England 4x4 Jamboree in Embden, Maine at the beginning of July, and also has some speedway freestyle exhibitions lined up for the summer as well. The truck is race ready and Ron & Shelley are looking forward to getting out there and doing more events. For booking information and more about the Aces High team, head on over to their website at www.AcesHighMonsterTruck.com. Thanks to Ron & Shelley for sending us over the update and photos of the great lookin' new truck!!  (05/08/07)

Bonar was on hand for all the action. Rick Swanson in Obsession swept the event, first knocking off Frank Schettini in Big Dummy for the racing victory and then winning freestyle with some great cyclones. Larry Swim in Carolina Crusher took a hard roll in freestyle after grabbing some major air off the bus stack, and all the trucks put on great performances.

Springfield 4 Wheel Jamboree Recap & Teasers!!:  The second event of the 2007 Special Events Performance Series Dodge Monster Truck Thunder Drags is in the books!!  This year's event in Springfield featured a stellar lineup of trucks competing in racing and freestyle contests. Saturday's early show saw '06 Special Events Champ Geremie Dishman take Rammunition to the finals in racing, defeating Charlie Pauken in Grave Digger for the victory.

The evening show would feature a racing finals of Mark Hall in Raminator and Dan Runte in the debut of Bigfoot #16. Runte experienced fuel filter problems in the first show, but the team had the truck running good for the evening final round. The two legendary drivers had a great race with Raminator winning by just a nose at the finish line.

Sunday afternoon Doug Noelke in Big Dawg was not to be denied, marching through the rounds, first taking out Bigfoot in the opening race, then Raminator in the semi-finals, and finally, Grave Digger to take the big racing victory.

The three freestyle competitions of the weekend saw all of the trucks put forth some fantastic performances, especially the Sunday afternoon show everyone was at the top of their game. The Special Events series does not typically call "winners" in their freestyle competitions, but we've got to give both Saturday shows to Charlie Pauken in Digger who was simply dominant. Sunday is a tough call because of how good all the drivers performed, but Mark Hall's run in Raminator gets the nod due to some insane cyclones, a great wheelie, and huge air.

A huge thanks to all of the folks from Special Events for their hospitality and for putting on one of the best shows Springfield has seen in a long time this weekend!  We salute and appreciate all the teams and drivers for their hard work and great performances and we look forward to seeing them all again soon. Be watching for tons of photos and some awesome video of this weekend's action coming soon!!  (05/06/07)
