BEFORE THE CAR CRUSH
Just before the car show award presentations took place, it was time for Bigfoot to fire up and move over to the fairgrounds. Shane Blair showed up and fired up the truck and drove it off to the fairgrounds. You can tell this area is starved for more Monster Truck action by how many people gathered around just to see it fire up and drive away!!
After the car show awards were handed out, it was time to take the show across the street to the fairgrounds. With about 45 minutes to kill before the car crush, we walked back over and went back around to the Bigfoot hauler, where Bigfoot was now parked in preparation for the event. A large crowd gathered around the truck where families were taking pictures and such, while Shane Blair and his wife Tayla were selling merchandise out of the trailer and signing autographs.
What happened next was probably the highlight of the evening for me. I walked over and introduced myself to Tayla Blair, and she knew exactly who I was from the site and had been hoping that we would be in attendance tonight. She took me over to meet Shane, because she said he wanted to meet me. Just the fact that her and Shane knew of the website was exciting, and the fact that they had been hoping to meet me was very gratifying.
You never really know what to expect when you meet the Monster Truck drivers. Most are outstanding folks who appreciate the fans a ton, but there are some that are much less approachable. Shane Blair is one of the best guys I've ever met. He took a few minutes out from what he was doing to talk about this and that with me.
He was telling me that him and some of the other folks over at the Bigfoot shop were checking out the site and videos, and I was really excited to hear that. He also thanked me for the "Air Blair" nickname we gave him in the Washington coverage, and said that the others at the Bigfoot shop had gotten a kick out of it. I didn't want to take up too much of his time while he was preparing for the show, so I just got a picture of him with the truck, thanked him for his time, and my wife and I headed over to find a good spot to watch the show.
Took a couple more pictures of the family, including this one of Rajeana and the baby at the fairgrounds as it began to fill up. I am a lucky man!!
We were standing over by the announcer's stand waiting for the event to start, when who comes walking up behind me in full driver's suit other than Shane Blair!! The guy had already made my day by being so nice before but to have him come over just to talk before the show was awesome. His wife Tayla and their two little girls came over as well and were talking with Rajeana. Shane was telling me about his plan of attack for the course and we just talked about this and that for about 15 minutes before it was finally time for the show to start!!
THE CAR CRUSH
Time for Air Blair to wow the crowd by putting Bigfoot 10 through its paces!! Shane roared the truck out onto the track and started out by just taking a few second to use the giant monster truck to push the cars together a little better for safety purposes. After taking a few minutes to get everything all set, he roared the truck down the track and lined up for his first pass. Air Blair then proceeded to put on amazing show for the fans, skying Bigfoot on each hit, and making a couple attempts at a wheelie, with the first one being the best. The first one kinda scared me a little bit, as you'll see in the video (Video of the whole show is available in the Video section of the site). It made me jump a little bit as the truck was kind of at an angle toward the sidelines and coming right at me, lol. Obviously it wasn't even close to the barriers, but it was enough to make me jump a little bit!! Well, I'm just going to let the pictures tell the rest of the story of the car crush, as there are a bunch of them!! Here they are, enjoy!!
Head to the next page to see the rest of Air Blair's awesome car crush performance!!
