Raminator, Avenger Take Wins In Nashville--Runte 1st MLMT Champion!!:  Music City was the place to be for monster trucks this weekend, as the Major League of Monster Trucks rocked Nashville Superspeedway Saturday night!!  The event was full of drama with the first ever MLMT Championship on the line as Dan Runte and the Bigfoot team looked to hold off the challenge of David Smith and Nitro Fish. Runte made Smith's job that much harder in Qualifying, opening his lead to 19 points after turning in the 2nd best time in Bigfoot, while Nitro Fish could only manage the 8th best time. Smith would now have to advance one racing round further than Runte to claim the championship. Mark Hall in Raminator once again could be found at the top of the charts after qualifying, firmly establishing himself the driver to beat. The top sixteen trucks in qualifying were seeded in the racing bracket, while the slowest three trucks failed to qualify and would leadoff freestyle later in the night. Those who would watch racing from the pits included Barbarian, Mopar Magic, and Hot Tamale.

The championship drama was kicked into high gear right at the start of the evening's racing competition as David Smith in Nitro Fish would have to face one of last week's winners, Dan Patrick in Samson. The huge course mimiced the style run in Las Vegas earlier this year, featuring the huge crossover jump in the middle of the track. In a close race, Dan Patrick in Samson used the momentum coming off the outside lane toward the finish line to defeat Nitro Fish, ending David Smith's championship hopes and making Dan Runte and Bigfoot your 2007 MLMT Champion. A big congratulations to Dan Runte and Bigfoot 4x4 on taking the first edition of "The Biggest Championship In The World!"

Even though the championship was decided, the Nashville racing and freestyle victories were still up for grabs and the competition was intense as the brackets played out before the diehard monster truck fans in attendance. Andy Hoffman in Nitemare was responsible for what was likely the move of the night after falling well behind in a first round race against Bigfoot. As Runte manuevered through the under portion of the crossover, Hoffman was coming full speed at the jump and sailed through the air right over Bigfoot as the crowd roared in excitement!

Dan Runte would end up unable to celebrate in style with a racing win after falling short in a photo finish against Doug Noelke in Tail Gator in the second round. Noelke would follow up that big win by defeating Jon Zimmer in Sudden Impact in the semi-finals. Mark Hall hustled Raminator around the tricky course, continually laying down the fastest times of the night on his way to meeting Noelke in the final round.
The match-up was set, Tail Gator versus Raminator, a rivalry that played out throughout the winter season on the Monster Nationals circuit. Raminator came out on top in that series, but Doug Noelke now looked to end Hall's MLMT winning streak by driving Tail Gator to the win. The two trucks powered off the line and when Raminator bobbled going through the under portion of the crossover, it looked like that scenario might just play out as Tail Gator drove to a huge lead.

But Mark Hall in Raminator was not to be denied, driving the final lap of the course on the ragged edge in a desperate attempt to claim a come-from-behind win. Off the final turn, Hall planted his foot to the floorboard and Raminator roared toward the finish line in the outside lane. Noelke navigated the tight inside corner but struggled to find traction and could only watch as Raminator blasted past, up and over the cars taking the incredible come-from-behind victory!!  Mark Hall is now undefeated in MLMT competition, winning all three events in which Raminator has been entered.

After another classic racing competition, it was time for freestyle. Billy Chapin lead off in Hot Tamale with a solid run that featured a huge slap wheelie down the center of the course for a score of 17. Devin Jones in Barbarian kicked things up a notch with some huge hits, blowing a tire and making a great save after a hard landing off the car stack. Mopar Magic and Stone Crusher put forth solid efforts, while Andy Hoffman brought the crowd to their feet with a big slap wheelie and a killer donut on the concrete tri-oval of Nashville Superspeedway. Madusa had some good hits behind the wheel of Bigfoot, but then it was time for Mr. Excitement.

Jim Koehler roared to the track in Avenger beginning his run with some huge air including an awesome sideways hit on the huge center dirt mound. But after only a few big jumps, Koehler rolled Avenger onto its roof when attempting to make a sliding turn in the grass. The run was good enough for a score of 25 from the judges which put Avenger at the top of the charts with more of freestyle's heaviest hitters still to come.

One-by-one big-time challengers rolled to the track, and one-by-one they were unable to match the score of Avenger. Carl Van Horn in Traxxas T-Maxx roared out on a mission but was done after a hard landing off the box van stack broke the upper rear shock mount. Randy Moore in War Wizard laid down a strong run, but battled rear steering problems causing his freestyle to run well past the judged two minutes. Chris Bergeron in Brutus was poised to take the lead after a strong start to his freestyle, but the fuel cap came loose causing gas to begin leaking from the truck resulting in Bergeron being shut off by the MLMT officials due to safety concerns.

David Smith in Nitro Fish was done in after his first hit, ramming a conrete barrier hard upon landing off the box van. Teammate Daron Basl in Nitro Hornet put forth a solid effort for a score of 20. Two big challenges to Avenger's high score followed, as Mike Hawkins brought some huge air and an amazing cyclone as part of a strong run in Equalizer, but would fall short with a score of 23.

The strongest challenge came from Jon Zimmer in Sudden Impact toward the end of the competition. Zimmer did the best job of any driver of quickly following up one move with another on the wide freestyle course. Strong momentum and some big jumps filled the run, and to finish, Zimmer hit the huge center dirt mound sideways going past vertical and rolling over backwards right around the two minute mark. The score from the judges came in at only a 21, well short of Avenger's 25 with only two trucks remaining.

Runte in Bigfoot and Mark Hall in Raminator both put forth solid runs, each featuring a good donut, but neither coming close to the lead to finish out the competition. Jim Koehler in Avenger's score of 25 held up against tough competition, and he was declared the freestyle winner in Nashville!!

And so drew to a close another incredible event by the Major League of Monster Trucks to close out their 2007 season. All now look ahead to the 2008 MLMT season which will drastically alter the perception of the sport of monster trucks in light of the announcements made Saturday morning (see below). There is no questioning that MLMT is indeed the next generation of monster trucks and we salute Joe Froome, Rich Schaefer, and everyone involved with this series for their dedication to taking our sport forward.

And now we begin the process of bringing you the Nashville event in its entirety as part of our fall major event video coverage. We will also have a gigantic photo gallery from the event, as well as footage from the MLMT '08 Press Conference held Saturday morning, and an interview with 2007 MLMT Champion Dan Runte. A huge thanks to our good friend Brian Varmecky with the WMTRL for hooking up with us to provide live updates from Nashville last night on the Fan Forum, and to fellow Staff Members Tommy Lee Byrd and Kaedon Berry for joining us in covering the event. Veteran Kreg Christensen To Pilot Iron Outlaw in 2008!!: (Toganoxie, KS)  “We were determined to have a team just as strong or stronger than we’ve had the past 2 years” explained 2Xtreme Racing owner and driver Jimmy Creten. “I’m pretty sure we can call it mission accomplished”. Utah’s Kreg Christensen will take the wheel of 2Xtreme’s Iron Outlaw monster truck this winter, chasing his first ever birth into the Monster Jam World Finals. A seasoned veteran of 15 years, Christensen will step out of his well-known Dragon Slayer Hummer immediately in preparation for the new year.
Chosen from a large field of rookie applicants, current drivers and even a few other owner/drivers, the deciding factor might seem odd to most. “The bottom line is … I hate racing that guy. I know that on any given day, if his equipment holds together he’ll probably beat me. That’s the guy I want in my other truck” noted Creten. It’s interesting to know that Christensen and Creten were once partners early in their careers and have had their fare share of differences in the past. “We’ve put all that behind us some time ago and while we’d like to rip each other’s hearts out on the track, behind the scenes we get along very well these days”.

Without a doubt one of the sport’s hardest charging drivers Kreg Christensen has claimed titles at many levels of competition and recently won the West Coast Monster Truck Nationals in Red Bluff, CA for the fourth time. A true west coast favorite, the yellow Hummer bodied Dragon Slayer and it’s driver have become one of the storied duos in monster truck history. “I look forward to representing the Creten’s operation and Checker Schuck's Kragen Auto Parts the best that I can and there’s no doubt that Jimmy and I will be tough to beat this winter” explained Christensen, “My goal is to make it into the World Finals for the first time and I think this move will be a great one for both me and the fans who’ve followed me for years”. Kreg plans to keep his team of trucks running with sons, Mikeal and Paul Jensen at the controls.

Head on over to www.ChrisArel.com for more information on this fall's Monreal Monster Spectacular!!  (10/23/07)

Avenger Sweeps Saturday Night In Memphis!!:  Jim Koehler in Avenger put forth a stellar performance Saturday night in Memphis, becoming the first driver to sweep racing and freestyle at an MLMT event this year!!  Koehler served notice that he would be the man to beat right off the bat, taking the top qualifier spot and marching through the brackets on his way to the final round. There he met Dan Patrick in Samson, who was trying to sweep the weekend's racing victories after winning Friday night. But Avenger would be too much for Samson in the finals, as he flew to the big victory in Memphis. Freestyle would see Koehler lay down an amazing run and despite the best efforts of Nitro Fish and Tail Gator, Avenger would be declared the freestyle victor to complete the sweep!!  A huge thanks to Staff Member Kaedon Berry for updates this weekend and for the video footage that will begin running right here on TheMonsterBlog.com on Wednesday. Then its off to Nashville for the grand finale of the 2007 MLMT season, we hope to see you there!!  Be sure to head over and check out www.MLMT.com for all the info!!  (10/22/07)

- TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS UPDATE - Koehler Up To 4th!!:  Jim Kohler's sweep Saturday in Memphis earned him 25 points in the TheMonsterBlog.com Tournament of Champions, moving Avenger into the fourth position overall. Dan Runte in Bigfoot picked up a total of 15 points for his freestyle win and semi-finals appearance Friday, extending his lead in the T.O.C. with only two weekends remaining. Dan Patrick vaulted into the 7th position overall after earning 20 points this weekend, while David Smith in Nitro Fish retained the #6 spot receiving 10 points for his efforts.  Madusa and Brutus also picked up an additional 2.5 points each for semi-final appearances this weekend.
Head over and check out our Tournament of Champions page for more information on the promotion and see all of the prizes the teams and fans are competing for, with the winners to be decided in just two short weeks!! (10/21/07)

Samson, Bigfoot Winners In Memphis Friday Night!!:  The Major League of Monster Trucks rolled into Memphis, TN for the first night of competition at Memphis Motorsports Park, and it was Dan Patrick in Samson and Dan Runte in Bigfoot taking wins on Friday!!  Patrick defeated Chris Bergeron in Brutus in the semi-finals to meet David Smith in Nitro Fish in the final round. Patrick then piloted Samson to victory over Nitro Fish to take the big racing win on the tricky three-jump straight line course. The racing competition was not without incident after Sean Duhon in Traxxas T-Maxx took a hard rollover racing Brutus in round two. Duhon walked away unscathed, but T-Maxx suffered substantial damage. Freestyle would see Dan Runte in Bigfoot come back from a semi-final round loss to Nitro Fish to claim the victory after laying down a high-energy freestyle with several slap wheelies and a show-stopping vertical leap. Other notable freestyle performances came from Jim Koehler in Avenger and Daron Basl in Nitro Hornet.

The Major League of Monster Trucks is back in action at Memphis Motorsports Park Saturday, and we will have a full run-down of all the action right here on the site Sunday. Staff Member Kaedon Berry is on hand for all the action in Memphis and full video coverage of the entire weekend's events will be available later this week. A huge thanks to Kaedon for the reports and coverage, keep checking back for updates!!  (10/19/07)

MLMT In Memphis This Weekend!!: (Memphis, TN) The Major League of Monster Trucks (MLMT) will debut its unique style of racing at Memphis Motorsports Park on Oct. 19-20, with side-by-side monster truck racing at over 80 miles per hour within the confines of the facility’s championship drag strip.
The MLMT event features the biggest names in Monster Truck racing with a 12-truck field that will include the return of Bigfoot, former world champion Jim Kohler in Avenger, King Krunch, Gunslinger and the Dawn Creten driven Scarlet Bandit.

“We’re bringing the ‘racing’ back to Monster Trucks at faster speeds with higher jumps on tracks containing bigger obstacles,” Major League of Monster Trucks President Joe Froome said. “Today’s form of monster truck racing at venues like Memphis Motorsports Park brings an elevated level of competition that can’t be seen anywhere else.”
“These incredible machines will be racing the entire length of our quarter-mile drag strip,” said Jason Rittenberry, Memphis Motorsports Park Vice President and General Manager. “And along the way, they will be catching plenty of air, crushing cars and taking racing here to a totally different level.”
The daredevils of Freestyle Motocross will also be trackside on a special course designed to demonstrate their mid-air stunts.
The event kicks off each night with a special pit party from 6:00-7:00 p.m., where fans can meet the drivers and snap photos with the trucks. Racing begins at 8:00 p.m.

Team KCM Celebrates MLMT West Coast Nationals Racing Title!!:  (Ogden, UT) Kreg Christensen came into last weekend's Red Buff, CA event realizing it would be a battle. The lineup of trucks for the 10th Annual West Coast Nationals was second to none. Team KCM had some issues with The Dragon Slayer after pulling it out of the hauler that would sideline the truck for the weekend. This gave Kreg a chance to drive the Kaptain Insano truck at the request of teammate Paul Jensen. Friday night Kreg had a rematch of the opening round when he took on Tropical Thunder, who battled back to the finals after an earlier defeat by the Kaptain. Kreg defeated Tropical Thunder again and claimed the Friday night Racing crown.

This would set Kreg up for the possibility of doing the unthinkable when he realized the Dragon was down, winning one of the next two nights and claiming the 2007 West Coast Nationals Racing Championship. That would become a reality sooner rather than later, as Kreg would finish off the Saturday night event by beating Nitro Fish and it's skipper David Smith. Sunday was not a great day for Team KCM as, needing only to finish and keep everything together, Kreg rolled the Kaptain racing Dan Runte and caused considerable damage to the monster Hummer. The weekend was a great lift giving Team KCM the crown and showing that Kreg Christensen is a competitor to be taken seriously regardless of which Team KCM Hummer he is commandeering. For more information on where you can see the Team KCM trucks in action, check out www.TeamKCM.net!!  (10/18/07)

Raminator, Equalizer Take Wins In Kentucky!!:  The Major League of Monster Trucks came to Kentucky Speedway last night and showed the world what monster truck racing is all about!!  Sixteen of the country's top trucks did battle on a huge Z-course built on the infield grass that saw drivers navigating five jumps on their way to the finish line. David Smith in Nitro Fish took the top spot in qualifying, but would face Raminator in the first round as Mark Hall was seeded last after experiencing breakage and not completing a qualifying run. The first race of the night was a classic with Hall in Raminator powering off the final corner and narrowly defeating Smith for the upset win. Smith's team truck Nitro Hornet marched through the brackets, with Daron Basl in Nitro Hornet consistently turning in some of the best times of the night on his way to defeating Dan Runte in Bigfoot in the Semi-Finals. Basl would be meeting Hall in the finals, as Raminator squeaked out a narrow victory over a hard-charging Scott Hartsock in Gun Slinger in the Semi's. In yet another photo finish, Hall was able to use all of Raminator's Hemi horsepower to fly right past Nitro Hornet for the big win!

Monster truck freestyle would see the trucks coming out in reverse order of the qualifying results as Andy Hoffman lead off the competition with a solid run including a nice wheelie and wild donuts. From there on out, it was non-stop action as Brutus, T-Maxx, and Madusa all laid down great runs. But the Koehler brothers took the event to the next level with high flying runs from Jim in Avenger and Steve in Hot Tamale, both ending on their lids. Avenger held the lead until Mike Hawkins in Equalizer took to the track, bringing huge air and keeping up the momentum on his way to taking the high score. The event's grand finale saw Doug Noelke in Tail Gator, Dan Runte in Bigfoot, and David Smith in Nitro Fish all take to the track together for a wild three-truck dueling freestyle. Everyone you looked there was a wheelie, donut, or huge air from one of the three drivers as they put on a great show. In the end, it was Hawkins in Equalizer taking home the big freestyle win!

Sudden Impact Racing Press Release!!: (New Orleans, LA) Sudden Impact Racing, owners and operators of several professional monster trucks, based in Louisiana, wants to issue an official warning and statement regarding the black marketing look alike Sudden Impact Racing monster truck tire to the monster truck racing community.
As you all know the Sudden Impact tires arrived from China to the Jefferson, Louisiana shop in June of 2007. The shipment contained 42 tires, 4 of them were purchased by Flame Motorsports, 16 by Sudden Impact Racing, and 22 by Live Nation Motorsports. It has recently come to our attention that a tire dealer is trying to sell look-alike tires to monster truck racing teams. After extensive research, we have come up with the information pertaining to the tires. The tires being knocked off are NOT official Sudden Impact Racing tires; they are tires that were proposed to us. During testing in China and inspecting them, they met a 90% failure rate and were rejected by Sudden Impact Racing.
The official Sudden Impact Tire is certified by a certificate of authentication and meets the proper requirements to be sold and used on a monster truck. The tire numbers and records are recorded and turned in to every promoter regarding the Official certified and approved Sudden Impact Racing Tire, not the knock off tires.
We are in the process of legal work with the black-market tire manufacturer, and our tire manufacturer. Sudden Impact Racing would like to warn teams using the black-market tire that it is dangerous and unsafe at any extent.
For more information on Sudden Impact Racing and Sudden Impact Racing Tires, please contact the office at (504) 733-0237 or visit www.SuddenImpact.com. (10/09/07)

Eradicator, Avenger Take Wins In Joliet!!:  The annual Route 66 Raceway Monster Mash took place in Joliet, IL today and it was Andy Slifko in Eradicator taking the big racing win while Jim Kohler in Avenger brought down the house in freestyle!!  The semi-finals of racing on the St. Louis style race course saw Slifko in Eradicator take the upset win over Mark Hall in Raminator, while Sean Duhon piloted the new-look Excaliber to the win over Avenger. In the finals, Slifko put down a strong run to top Duhon, putting a big win on the books for Eradicator!!  Freestyle would see strong performances from many of the trucks including Chris Bergeron in Brutus, but it wouldn't be enough to top Jim Kohler, who laid down another classic Avenger freestyle ending with the truck on its lid. Monster Blog Staff Member Lauren Z. Bonar took some great photos during the racing portion of the event, some teaser of which can be seen below, and got video footage of the freestyle competition. A huge thanks to Elliott Miller and the Sudden Impact Racing team for their help at the event, and to all the drivers and teams for their hard work. More coverage coming your way soon, stay tuned!!  (10/06/07)

Andy Slifko put Eradicator on the board with 25 points for his racing victory in his first Tournament of Champions event, while Mark Hall in Raminator added 5 points on the strength of his semi-final appearance, bringing him to 85 total which is good for second place overall.

MLMT West Coast Monster Truck Nationals Night One!!: (Red Bluff, CA)  Friday Night of the 10th Annual West Coast Monster Truck Nationals is in the books, and Dan Runte is still the 2007 Points Leader in his Firestone Bigfoot, even though Runte was knocked out early in side by side Racing. Runte missed his first Final Round appearance since the beginning of the 2007 Season on the MLMT Tour. Kreg Christensen in Kaptain Insano advanced through the field and dominated the final round against Andrew Peckham in Tropical Thunder to take his first Racing win in Red Bluff, California. Solid Freestyle runs later in the night from Jon Zimmer in Sudden Impact, Dan Rodoni in The Patriot, Dan Runte in Bigfoot, and Carl Van Horn in T-Maxx, but it was Jimmy Creten in the Bounty Hunter taking the Freestyle win. Scariest moment of the night came early in Qualifying, as Russ Steely went upside down in Iron Outlaw. Steely is making his debut at the West Coast MT Nationals, and happened to be his first rollever. Russ walked away and came back for Racing and posted a clean Freestyle run.

MLMT, 2Xtreme Racing to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month!!:  (Toganoxie, KS) The 10th Annual West Coast Monster Truck Nationals will kick off ‘Crush Out Breast Cancer’ a month long promotion supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. In it’s 2nd year, the Crush Out program was developed by Joe Froome, president of the Major League of Monster Trucks and local area hospital representatives in Northern California. The program has been expanded this year to include events througout the month of October.
Perhaps the most visible part of the campaign will be the 10,000 pound, 1,600 horsepower Scarlet Bandit monster truck driven by female driver and mother of 3 Dawn Creten. Her truck, which normally sports a pink Ford SUV body, will feature even more pink in the form of a giant ribbon added to the vehicle’s graphics. “Being one of the few women in this sport, I’m glad that we were able to support this effort and I think fans will really like the truck and everything that has been done with the Crush Out Breast Cancer effort this year” explained Creten who has been named the U.S.H.R.A Team of the Year twice and has won numerous events on the monster truck circuit. The special edition Crush Out Breast Cancer Scarlet Bandit will debut in Red Bluff, CA Oct 5-7 and go on to compete in Sparta, KY on Oct 13 and finally Memphis on Oct 19-20.

“Having Dawn’s truck represent the Crush Out Breast Cancer program this year is a perfect fit” commented MLMT President Joe Froome. “We started this program last year and it was such a success that making it bigger and better was a huge priority for us”. Fans will be able to purchase pink checkered flags at each event sporting the Crush Out logo along with other branded merchandise. In addition 4 authentic race worn uniform shirts will be auctioned; one at each event and 1 on the internet auction site Ebay. Portions of merchandise, ticket sales, and the collectible auctions will be donated to the St. Elizabeth Hospital Mercy Foundation.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.

Maximum Destruction Is The 2007 King of the Beach!!:  The annual Thunder on the Beach in Wildwood, NJ is one of the fall season's biggest events and its King of the Beach title one of the most coveted of the year. This year's King of the Beach after three events of racing and freestyle over the weekend is Neil Elliot and Maximum Destruction!!  The action began Saturday afternoon when Elliott in Max D and Rick Long in Bigfoot faced off in the finals of racing with Elliot taking the big win to start off the weekend. Elliot completed his sweep of the afternoon event by winning freestyle bringing huge air to the New Jersey beach. Later that night, the monsters were back in action with Maximum Destruction and Gary Porter in Grave Digger in the finals, with Neil once again coming out on top. Porter laid down the gauntlet with a great freestyle run and Elliot wasn't able to one-up him, giving Grave Digger the freestyle victory Saturday night.

After battling through breakage Saturday that included seeing teammate Geremie Dishman in Rammunition lose a motor, Mark Hall in Raminator was on a mission in racing Sunday afternoon. He drove his way to victory, beating Gary Porter in Grave Digger in the finals and taking Raminator to victory circle. Jim Kohler in Avenger set the bar high in freestyle with a score of 28, and held the lead through a great run by Mark Hall in Raminator. But Gary Porter in Grave Digger was determined to end the weekend on top and went crazy, laying down an amazing freestyle run that ended with Digger in flames. Thankfully Porter escaped without injury and received a great ovation from the crowd for a strong performance. But when the final points tally was in from the entire weekend's events, it was still Neil Elliot in Maximum Destruction taking the 2007 King of the Beach title. A big thanks to our good friend Steve Parry for the event recap, and for the teaser shot above. Look for more shots from Steve here on the site in the Fan Photo Gallery coming soon!!  (10/02/07)

- TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS UPDATE - Hall Takes 2nd Place!!:  The monster trucks returned to Wildwood this weekend for the annual Thunder on the Beach. Gary Porter in Grave Digger and Neil Elliot in Maximum Destruction got their first Tournament of Champions points this weekend, bringing home the highest point totals with 28.33 and 26.67 points respectively. Porter takes over 9th place overall, while Elliot slides into the 10th spot. However, Wildwood will likely be those drivers only T.O.C event, so they don't figure into the championship race. Mark Hall in Raminator does however, and by picking up a win in racing on Sunday, combined with a Semi-Final on Saturday, Hall brought home 10 points, moving him into 2nd overall with 80 total points. Rick Long in Bigfoot scored 6.67 points overall, while Jim Kohler in Avenger and Chris Bergeron in Brutus each picked up 1.67 points.
In other Tournament of Champions news, we have just confirmed the lineup for this week's Joliet, IL Monster Mash, and with eight trucks in the lineup, we have added the Route 66 show to the Tournament!!  The lineup will feature Traxxas T-Maxx, Raminator, Sudden Impact, The Felon, Lil' Miss Dangerous, Eradicator, Avenger, and Brutus.
