  • WGAS Motorsports Spectacular:  My parents, Lauren & Lynette Bonar, were in Phoenix, AZ tonight at the Maricopa County Fair for the second night of the WGAS Motorsports Spectacular.  Five monster trucks would do battle in a Freestyle only show, and it was Gary Schott Jr. in Nasty Boy taking the win for the second night in a row!!  Other trucks in attendance included Unnamed & Untamed, Maniac, Jurassic Attack, and McGruff.  The low light settings and dusty conditions at the show kept Dad from getting his best quality shots tonight, but Mom got some great video of the show.  Be looking for full coverage and video from this show later this week!!  Thanks to my parents for doing a great job covering yet another show this year, and to John Borba and all the folks from WGAS!!  (04/22/06)

  • Monster Nationals Championship Update!!:  With 8 of 13 events in the books, the battle for the championship currently has Doug Noelke in Big Dawg and Mark Hall in Raminator tied for the lead with 36.5 points a piece!!  Andy Hoffman is the odds-on favorite to walk away as the 2006 Monster Nationals Freestyle Champ, as he has taken the victory in 11 out of 17 Freestyle contests this year.  The series is currently in a short break, but will wrap up its indoor portion of the season with consecutive shows in Erie, PA and Bloomington, IL starting next week.  After another break, the series will then start back up in July with outdoor events in Columbus, NE, Mansfield, OH, and Champaign, IL to conclude the season.  Who will be the 2006 Monster Nationals Champ, Big Dawg or Raminator?  Or can Rammunition go on a tear and pass both from third place?  See the MT Points Series Standings in the left hand column of the main page for the full Monster Nationals Standings, and stay tuned because The Monster Blog will be bringing you all the latest Monster Nationals info in 2006!!  (04/21/06)

  • O'Reilly Outlaw Nationals in Miami, OK!!:  Spoke with John Darnell of Main Attraction Promotions the other day, and John was nice enough to give us some information on his upcoming show May 12th & 13th at the Miami Fairgrounds in Miami, OK.  The show will feature six Monster Trucks, including Bigfoot, Nitemare, Full Throttle, Terminator, D'Sturbed, & Road Rage!!  Billy Chapin in Terminator has been nothing short of dominant this year in the events he has competed in, but he will face his toughest competition yet, having to go head to head with Bigfoot in Miami.  The Monster Blog is planning on being at at least one of the shows, if not both, and we hope to see you there!!  (04/21/06)

  • TheMonsterBlog.com Update:  Well, its been a little slow around here lately, not too much going on in the week or so around Easter weekend.  Hope everyone and their families had a nice holiday!!  New coverage and video today, which leaves only 5 Coverages still "Coming Soon".  Hoping to get all caught up before we get back on the road with Springfield's 4 Wheel Jambo in a couple weeks, because the following weeks will include Miami, OK, Lima, OH, and New Paris, IN, so we're gonna be pretty busy!!
One reason for things being a little slow on the Blog is I am currently designing a couple of new web pages, which will be coming out soon, so stay tuned for that!!  The TV Schedule in the right hand column is being kept up to date, as well as our tracking of Monster Truck Point Series Standings on the left.  We were just able to get the current Monster Nationals standings, and a special thanks to George Eisenhart for providing those for us, and allowing us to track the battle for their Championship for the rest of the year.
We've got lots of exciting things in the works as well right now, so be looking for some cool announcements in the coming weeks!!  Thanks for your support of The Monster Blog!! (04/21/06)

About The New AZ Cardinals Stadium:  The new, soon-to-open Arizona Cardinals Stadium is one of the true marvels of modern day engineering.  The 63,000-seat multi-purpose stadium, currently under construction, is slated to open in August of 2006 as the future home of the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals and numerous other sporting events, consumer shows, conventions, trade shows, and exhibitions.
The feature most responsible for the multi-purpose capability is the stadium’s rollout field. With the field in the “outboard” position, the facility becomes one of the most versatile exhibit spaces in the country featuring 160,000 sq. ft. of contiguous column-free event space.
In addition to Cardinals football and the annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Cardinals Stadium will host the first ever 2007 BCS National Championship game, and Super Bowl XLII in 2008. Global Spectrum, operators for Cardinals Stadium, has secured 31 non-football events for Cardinals Stadium and continues to bring new and exciting events to the valley of the sun. (Information & Photo from Global Spectrum Press Release, see the Arizona Cardinals Stadium website for more info.)

Saturday Night Show Results!!: Well, the Saturday night show has come to an end, and Brandon Legarde in Sudden Impact capped off a great weekend in his return to the driver's seat by sweeping Racing & Freestyle Saturday night!!  All in all, it was a very successful weekend for the Southern Monster Truck Showdown, and be looking for tons of pictures & coverages from The Monster Blog's own Bryan Wagner coming soon!!

Round 1

Monkey'N Around def. Cowboy

Sudden Impact def. Clydesdale

Gun Slinger Bye Run

Semi-Finals

Sudden Impact def. Monkey'N Around

Gun Slinger def. Clydesdale

Finals

Sudden Impact def. Gun Slinger

Freestyle

- Cowboy - Solid run, hits on the car sets and donuts highlighted the run.

- Monkey'N Around - The left side door panel popped off during the run, nearly causing the truck to lose the body.  First truck to attack the van stack.

- Clydesdale - Awesome vertical sky wheelie highlights the run.

- Gun Slinger - Good air off the car sets, hit van stack twice.  On second van stack hit, landed hard on the rear end, breaking the rear axel and ending his run.

- Sudden Impact - Again, Brandon Legarde came right out and attacked the van stack for a huge hit, but the back tires caught on the top of the van going over, causing the truck to nosedive hard on the front end, blowing out the right front tire!!  Legarde tried to continue, but couldn't steer the truck due to the severe blowout.  That ended his run, but the one hit was enough for the crowd, and Brandon was declared the winner, giving him the clean sweep of the night!!

News & Notes

- After introductions, there was a very unique Monster Truck competition--a dance-off contest!!  Drivers danced on the tires of their truck, and Gun Slinger crew member Jason (don't know last name) who drove Cowboy out for Intros was declared the winner!!

- Racing format was Straight Line Drags.

- Durty Dingus McGee once again survived his much hyped kissing a bull between the horns stunt Saturday night!!

Friday Night Show In The Books!!: Well, the first show of the 2006 season for the Southern Monster Truck Showdown is now complete and it was Brandon Legarde in Sudden Impact taking the Racing victory over Bennett Clark in Clydesdale, while Scott Hartsock in Gun Slinger barely edged Legarde for the Freestyle win!!  More to come from Okeechobee tomorrow night as the Bull Buckin' & Monster Truckin' continues!!

Sudden Impact def. Clydesdale

Freestyle

- Monkey'N Around - Highlight of the run included some fast donuts. Engine was hurt during the donuts, but the truck will be ready to go for tomorrow night's show.

- Cowboy - Solid run, nothing too spectacular.

- Clydesdale - Biggest air of the night so far, solid run from Bennett Clark.

- Sudden Impact - Legarde wasted no time, getting some huge air over the van stack, and over the cars during his run, awesome run.  After the show it was found that the frame of Sudden Impact was actually cracked, but the crew will have it welded back together before tomorrow night's show.

- Gun Slinger - Scott Hartsock filled his run with big air, and some wild donuts to finish out the run.  At one point, Gun Slinger stood straight up and down over the van stack and ripped off one of the rear bed panels!!  Hartsock was declared the winner!!

News & Notes

- Although most of the trucks sustained damage of one kind or another during the show, all will be ready to go for the Saturday evening show.

- Racing format was Straight Line Drags.

- Durty Dingus McGee survived his much hyped kissing a bull between the horns stunt, more on that later!!

- Bennett Clark discovered a transmission bell housing cracked in half during the Pit Party, but amazingly, was able to have the new transmission installed in time for the show.

- Scott Hartsock drove both Cowboy & Gun Slinger as teammate Glen Logan was unable to make the show.
