Zimmer Takes Wins In Batesville, Barbarian "Lights Out" In Freestyle!!: The Batesville Monster Truck Summer Slam wrapped up tonight and there was plenty of action on the track!! The evening started off with a wheelie contest that saw many drivers having trouble getting vertical. One driver who did not have any problems was Jon Zimmer in Amsoil Shock Therapy who stood it right up to take the win going away.
Allen Pezo in Predator wasted no time in showing that he would be the man to beat once again in racing, taking the top qualifying spot and getting the first round bye run. The semi-finals would see Rodney Tweedy in Bigfoot take down John Killenger in Excaliber and then, in the best race of the night, Allen Pezo took a come from behind win over Zimmer and Shock Therapy.
Then the drama began to unfold as it was discovered that Predator had thrown out a rear driveshaft on the way to the semi-final round win. Pezo would be out for the night and Jon Zimmer was brought back and given a second chance at the racing win. Off the line, Rodney Tweedy in Bigfoot jumped out to a quick lead. But coming over the bus, Tweedy carried too much speed and was unable to make the turn, veering off into the mud and handing the win to Zimmer and Amsoil Shock Therapy. Tweedy thrilled the crowd by ripping off a fantastic set of muddy donuts before finishing his run.
Freestyle kicked off with solid performances from Shelley Kujat in Shell Camino and Bruce Haney in Bad News Travels Fast before John Killenger raised the bar with a high-energy run in Excaliber.
The sparks began to fly when Devin Jones in Barbarian took to the track. Big air over the bus, big air over the van stack and a great slap wheelie, and big air over the center stack with another great slap wheelie--but then trouble struck as Jones launched over the bus once again. Upon landing, there was very little room to get stopped before reaching the muddy portion of the infield. Devin was unable to slow Barbarian and hit the mud, sliding, and despite his best efforts slid into one of the infield's light poles. The contact brought down the light assembly and caused lighting for half the infield to go out.
With half of the track in the dark, there wasn't much Rodney Tweedy or John Zimmer would be able to do, but they each took their turn on the track. Tweedy launched over the van stack and pulled Bigfoot into a small slap wheelie on the landing. Then Tweedy took on the big center stack before coming around and acknowledging the crowd.
After having won the wheelie contest and racing, Jon Zimmer set out to put on the best show he could under the conditions. He whipped Amsoil Shock Therapy into several great donuts and made a few hits with some good air.
With half the infield
unavailable for the final two freestyle competitors, there was really no
way to call a winner for the competition. The only thing you could really
say is that Barbarian's freestyle was "lights out", so to speak.
The track owner and Checkered Flag officials handled the accident very
well, completely understanding that there was nothing more that Devin
Jones and Barbarian could have done to avoid the contact due to the muddy
conditions at the end of the track. Pezo Wins Racing, SIR Dual Freestyle In Batesville!!: The first night of the Monster Truck Summer Slam in Batesville, AR is in the books and it was Allen Pezo in Predator taking the big win in racing!! The evening started off with a wheelie contest that saw great efforts from Allen Pezo in Predator, Jon Zimmer in Amsoil Shock Therapy and Rodney Tweedy in Bigfoot. It would be up to the crowd to decide the winner, and in a close call, it was Tweedy taking the wheelie contest victory.
Qualifying would be interesting at the trucks felt out the unique racing course that would see the trucks going up and over school buses. As the segment went on, the runs got faster and faster with Tweedy taking the top spot with a sub-15 second run. The semi-finals would see two excellent races as Pezo took down Bigfoot, and John Killenger in Excaliber upset teammate Zimmer in Amsoil Shock Therapy.
The finals would prove to be the best race of the night as John Killenger grabbed the holeshot in Excaliber. Pezo would have to play catch-up and did just that, blasting over the bus stack, making a perfect corner and powering down the straightaway to just edge Killenger at the line for the evening racing victory.
Shelley Kujat would be first up in freestyle in her Shell Camino monster. The Monster Blog would like to send out a special thank you to Shelley and Ron for running our sweet new flag. The folks at Awesome Racewear did an amazing job on our new double-sided flag, and we just can't thank Shelley and Ron for helping us out this weekend.
Bruce Haney in Bad News Travels Fast put forth a solid effort, and Devin Jones was on his way to turning another classic hard-charging Barbarian freestyle when mechanical difficulties brought an early end to his run.
Freestyle kicked into high gear as Rodney Tweedy in Bigfoot took to the track with big air over the bus stacks and some nice slap wheelies. Allen Pezo further raised the bar with a high-momentum performance that featured big air and wild donuts.
Early on in the evening the show was delayed due to power outages at Batesville Speedway. The Sudden Impact Racing team of Jon Zimmer and John Killenger decided to reward the diehard fans who stuck out the delay with a crazy dual freestyle. Both drivers carried lots of momentum, grabbed plenty of big air and didn't hesitate to go after the big obstacles. The SIR team sent the Batesville fans home on a high note!
It was a solid first night of action in Batesville, and the Monster Truck Summer Slam will be back at it tomorrow night at Batesville Speedway. A big thanks to Zane Rettew and the CFP staff for their hospitality--stay tuned for more from Saturday night!! (08/29/08)

I-70 Speedway Monstergeddon Recap & Teasers!!: I-70 Speedway's annual night of thrills and destruction, Monstergeddon, returned in destructive style Saturday night in Odessa, MO!! With six monster trucks, the return of stuntman Dr. Danger, bus and trailer races and more, Saturday night was the biggest Monstergeddon yet. The monster trucks would compete in racing and perform a freestyle exhibition, mixed in between the other destruction on the evening's agenda. Doug Noelke was on a rail in monster truck racing, marching through the brackets and defeating David Brown in Ozz Monster for the victory on the Chicago-style course.
When TheMonsterBlog.com was last in attendance at I-70 Speedway's night of destruction several years ago, stuntman Dr. Danger was badly injured in a car jump stunt gone wrong. The Doctor made a full recovery and has been back on the road entertaining fans with his wild antics. How was the car jump stunt changed since the near fatal jump? How about by adding an additional car to the stack! Dr. Danger thrilled the crowd twice Saturday night, first blowing up a school bus while inside of it, using 50 gallons of gasoline. Then it was time for the car jump. In spectacular fashion, Dr. Danger piloted his vehicle up the ramp and into the car stack, landing on his roof on the speedway asphalt. The crowd waited in tense anticipation until Dr. Danger emerged from the vehicle to the thunderous applause of the I-70 fans.
After Dr. Danger's stunts and other mayhem, it was time for monster truck freestyle. Devin Jones in Barbarian led off freestyle with a strong, high-energy run featuring big air that set the bar high for his competition.
Rookie driver John White in Brute Force followed, and showing what more seat time can do, pulled off what was probably the move of the night with an incredible cyclone.
After solid efforts from DJ Hickman in Monster Patrol and David Brown in Ozz Monster, the grand finale featured a tandem freestyle by the Big Dawg 4x4 team of Doug Noelke in Tail Gator and Dale Gerding in Big Dawg. With some nice jumps and killer donuts, the Big Dawg boys finished the freestyle exhibition in style.
TheMonsterBlog.com would like to thank Brad, Brian, and the fine folks with I-70 Speedway for their great hospitality, and for their hard work in putting together a unique and exciting event. As always we would like to recognize the teams for their hard work and effort in putting on a good show for the fans. Full photo gallery and highlight video featuring all of the destruction coming soon, stay tuned!! (08/24/08) Bearfoot Sweeps Night One In Columbia!!: Monster Truck Entertainment brought Mud'N Monsters to Columbia, MO's Boone County Fairgrounds for the first time Friday night, and it was Don King in Bearfoot bringing home the evening sweep!! The show got started with a sky wheelie contest, and you really couldn't ask for anything more out of the competitors as each truck went completely vertical and planted the tailgate into the cars. The crowd nod would go to King and Bearfoot for the wheelie victory.
After some high-powered mud drags and high-flying freestyle motocross, it was time for the first of two monster truck freestyle rounds. The General was the first truck out with some nice wheelies and a small slap wheelie as the highlights. Rookie driver Cody Martin was putting forth a nice effort in Torqzilla when rear steering issues cut his run short. Don King in Bearfoot would end up taking the win after a solid run that featured a great past vertical wheelie.
With the final rounds of mud drags and freestyle motocross completed, only the grand finale of monster truck freestyle remained. The General would be out for the night with mechanical troubles, and so Cody Martin and Torqzilla led off the final round with a decent run. The door was open for King and Bearfoot to bring home the sweep. King sent the fans home on a high note, blasting through the RV camper, riding out a small slap wheelie into the mud drag pit and powering out of the muck. There was little doubt the Bearfoot was the winner of the final round of monster truck freestyle.
TheMonsterBlog.com thanks Danny Torgerson and the Monster Truck Entertainment staff for their hospitality and for bringing monster trucks to the Columbia, MO area. The trucks, mud racers and freestyle motocross guys are back in action Saturday night, so come on out if you're in the area. Stay tuned as we'll have a highlight video and photo gallery from Friday night's action in Columbia coming your way soon. In the meantime however, we're off to I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO for Monstergeddon!! The trucks would start on the backstretch of the track, power through the center of the track over several jumps and then finish across the frontstretch. This year's event would see the legendary match-up of Bigfoot and Grave Digger, along with the powerful Hall Brothers Racing Raminator and Rammunition trucks, and the unique Pro Comp Tires monster of Frank Schettini. With usual Raminator pilot Mark Hall in St. Louis for the Monster Truck Challenge event, HBR brought in former champion Bigfoot driver Eric Tack to drive in Canfield. Tack would make both final rounds Saturday, falling to Rick in Bigfoot in the early show and losing to teammate Geremie Dishman in Rammunition in the late show. Frank Schettini would be out for the weekend after a nasty rollover in freestyle, while Tack brought the crowd to their feet several times with some huge moves in Raminator in freestyle. Sunday's event would see Chad Tingler in Grave Digger manage to knock off Long in Bigfoot to take the final racing contest of the weekend. Check out some of Paul's great photos from the Canfield Jeep & Truck Fest by clicking below, and thanks to all the folks with Special Events for their great hospitality!!

After some great monster truck action on Friday night, Paul Harry's Monster Truck Odyssey ended on the highest of notes with the Monster Truck Challenge event at Eldora Speedway. In some hard nosed racing competition on a typically wild MTC course, it was Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter continuing to dominate, taking the big win over Carl Van Horn in Mopar Magic. The same two would end up tieing for the freestyle win after some ridiculously huge air by Van Horn in Mopar Magic, and the usual technical precision of Creten in Bounty Hunter leading to another great run. A big thanks to the MTC staff for their hospitality at the event, and to all the drivers and teams for a great show.
