Bigfoot Versus Bearfoot Rivalry Reborn Saturday In Tulsa!!: The Battle of the Monster Trucks continued in Tulsa with two races Saturday evening and a classic rivalry was reborn as Bigfoot and Bearfoot went head-to-head all night long. The first show would start with a bang, quite literally, as Rick Long in Bigfoot took on Drew Haygood in Dream Catcher. Long crossed the finish line first followed closely by Haygood, who was hard in the gas trying to catch up. Haygood was carrying a lot of momentum and couldn't get slowed down before the end of the dirt. Once Dream Catcher hit the concrete with the brakes locked up, there was no stopping the truck and he slid right into the concrete building wall.
Another highlight came in the second round, once again courtesy of "Captain" Jerry Dalton in Snake Bite. Having to face off against teammate Rick Long in Bigfoot once again, Dalton never let off the gas and caught some ridiculous air. But Long stayed low and fast and crossed the finish line before Snake Bite even returned to earth.
Mac Plecker in Bearfoot was looking to make up for a tough Friday night, and he did so in fine fashion, taking down Long and Bigfoot in an incredibly close race. But Long would work his way back through the double elimination bracket to meet the undefeated Plecker in the finals. This time Mac got a great jump off the line and never looked back, taking down Bigfoot and putting Bearfoot in the winner's circle.
The Saturday evening show would start off wild and never let up, as the majority of races would have to go to the finish line camera to make a call. The action got wild in the first round as Jerry Dalton once again had to face off against teammate Rick Long in the first round. Long once again had lane choice, sticking Dalton in the lane where the first car was launching trucks higher. Not one to let up, Dalton blasted the car stack sending Snake Bite soaring through the air vertical. He easily cleared the six car stack standing straight up and down, landing on one rear tire throwing the truck up onto its side with Jerry making a great save to get back onto all four tires as he crossed the finish line. Long once again managed to keep the truck low and fast and took the win, but not by much.
It was time for more Bearfoot and Bigfoot as the two undefeated trucks would go head to head. Plecker continued to have Long's number as he squeeked out a close win over Bigfoot.
That sent Long back down to the double elimination brackets, where he was once again able to work his back to the finals for another shot at Bearfoot. Plecker got the jump at the start and was leading over the cars, but he caught a little too much air and Long was able to get back on the ground and in the gas first, propelling Bigfoot to the victory. After three of four shows, the score sits at Bigfoot 2, Bearfoot 1.
The Battle of the Monster Trucks concludes today at 5PM, but that's all for TMB's coverage from Tulsa. We had an absolute blast this weekend in Tulsa watching the unique, old-school style, racing-only format and it'll all be coming your way later this week on TMB TV. A big thanks to video man Shane Skinner for his great work this weekend and thanks to all the teams and drivers for a great show. Tons of coverage coming your way, stay tuned!! (02/22/09) Rick Long Takes Friday Night Win In Tulsa!!: The KMOD Battle of the Monster Trucks kicked off the weekend Friday night at Tulsa's QuikTrip Center with some wild monster truck racing!! The event featured a unique double-elimination style racing bracket that would see trucks race until they lost twice or broke. The no-ramp setup produced some big air and some wild sky wheelies as the trucks went head-to-head throughout the night. Jerry Dalton in Snake Bite had the wildest ride as he carried a huge sky wheelie past the cars, blowing out a rear tire, but still nearly taking down Rick Long in Bigfoot.
But Long was the man to beat Friday night as he marched through the brackets undefeated into the finals. Rich Blackburne in Viper was impressive as he stayed alive despite an early loss to Snake Bite. The finals would provide an opportunity for Blackburne to take his first win of the year or for Long to continue his success thus far in '09. Both trucks left hard off the line and soared through the air toward the finish line. Long took a hard landing, breaking a rear knuckle on contact, but he stayed in the gas and managed to beat Viper by no more than a couple of feet at the finish line.
That was only night one, the action will continue today with races at 5PM and 10PM and close out on Sunday with the finale at 5PM. Tons of coverage coming your way, stay tuned for more!!
