Runte, Creten Return to Victory Lane Sunday In La Porte!!: After a Saturday in which surprise winners took the night, the early favorites were back in victory lane in both racing and freestyle. Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter would make his first final round appearance of the weekend after being knocked out in round one both Friday and Saturday. There he would take on Dan Runte in Summit Bigfoot who had marched his way to the finals once again. In one of the most thrilling races and closest finishes of the weekend, Runte just edged Creten for the big racing win, making him 2 for 3 on the weekend.
It would be tough to top Saturday night's freestyle competition, but tonight's came darn close as all of the trucks and drivers put forth great efforts. The first truck to take to the track was Dave Radierez in the Hushpower diesel monster truck. Dave continued to improve over the course of the weekend in his first actual competitive event, and he ended strong with a solid freestyle capped by a blast through the RV camper.
Butch Tulachka impressed all weekend in freestyle, consistently hitting some of the wildest moves in Havoc. With a little more seat time, Butch will be right there contending for wins, even in lineups as strong as this one.
Following up her win Saturday night would be tough, but Kristy Edge managed to put on another solid freestyle to close out only her second weekend driving Excaliber for Sudden Impact Racing.
After what would likely have been two top three finishes in freestyle Friday & Saturday, Mitch Tulachka continued to impress Sunday with another strong run in Just Geter Done, finishing with another set of his amazing cyclones for the best run thus far.
That wouldn't last long however as Randy Moore with War Wizard took to the track. Randy was hard on the gas for the entire run, hitting everything with huge speed and catching some of the biggest air of the night. As he waved to the crowd, there was little doubt Randy had laid down the best run thus far.
After Ben Winslow was unable to run due to RII problems, making the correct and safe choice not to run Sudden Impact, Jon Zimmer charged to the track in Amsoil Shock Therapy. Zimmer had a win-worthy run Friday night, the biggest move Saturday and he was determined to shoot for the win. He laid down an amazing run filled with everything you could ask for, easily topping those before him and raising the bar incredibly high for Runte and Creten.
The entire Bigfoot 4x4 camp has stepped up their freestyle game in 2009, and Dan Runte underscored that fact as he laid down a great run. Huge air and the best slap wheelies of the weekend would equal a great run for Summit Bigfoot, but it wouldn't be quite enough to top Jon Zimmer and Amsoil Shock Therapy.
After narrowly losing in the racing finals and arguably being robbed of a freestyle win Saturday, Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter would leave nothing on the table. In the best run of the entire weekend, Creten hit everything on the track mixing in cross threads, slap wheelies, huge air, cyclones - he ran the truck until it simply wouldn't run anymore, ending in a huge cloud of smoke as the cooked tranny gave its last breath. There was no doubt as to who the winner would be and Creten walked away with his second giant trophy of the weekend.
A big thanks to Ed Calen and Dave Gross for their hospitality this weekend, and to our staff Shane Skinner, Colby Marshall and Paul Harry for their great work this weekend. Watch for tons of photos from Paul and Ross, as well as our biggest episode of TMB TV this year with two angles of all the action by Shane and Colby. This episode of TMB TV will premiere on TheMonsterBlog.com Friday, June 13th at 6PM Eastern, so be ready!! (05/31/09) Moore, Edge Pull Off Upset Wins Saturday Night In La Porte!!: Going into Saturday night's event the biggest questions were could anyone stop Dan Runte in racing or Jimmy Creten in freestyle? Only time would tell as the fourteen trucks kicked off another wild night with monster truck racing. Runte's racing dominance would be ended by Randy Moore in War Wizard as he took down Bigfoot in an incredibly close second round battle. Moore would go on to defeat Greg Adams in the Bar's Leaks Eliminator in the semi-finals to earn a final round berth where he would take on Jon Zimmer in Amsoil Shock Therapy. In another great match-up, Moore laid down a near perfect pass to take the big victory.
Much like Friday night, the intensity of freestyle would continue to grow as each truck went to the track. The action really got started when Kristy Edge laid down a great run in Excaliber, hitting everything on the track and catching some big air.
Randy Moore followed up his racing win with a short but sweet freestyle, catching huge air off the center dirt hill before a rear steet problem ended his run.
Jon Zimmer is well known for his freestyle prowess but he pulled off a move in Amsoil Shock Therapy Saturday night that left everyone who saw its' jaw on the floor. Hitting the backside of the center dirt hill, Zimmer launched Amsoil intro orbit standing straight up and down. Upon landing, Zimmer pulled the truck back up into a quick slap wheelie as a rear tire gave way. Zimmer roared back around on three wheels and whipped Amsoil into a wild donut to the delight of the crowd. While Jon's run was too short to win, there was no doubt he had the move of the weekend thus far.
Mitch Tulachka impressed Friday night with a great run and followed it up Saturday with an even better effort. Tulachka roared around the track in Geter Done, hitting everything big and finishing his run with one of the best cyclones we've ever seen. Mitch's run would be tough to beat with only Creten and Runte left to run.
As strong as Jimmy Creten's freestyle in Bounty Hunter Friday was, he upped the ante in a big way tonight, absolutely tearing up the La Porte County Fairgrounds for 3+ minutes. Huge air, cyclones, one of the first slap wheelies of the weekend and ridiculous momentum would put Creten in great shape to possibly take another win.
Dan Runte with Summit Bigfoot avenged his early racing exit by absolutely destroying the RV camper brought out before his run. That move combined with plenty of other big moments would make for a solid freestyle, but not enough to contend for the win.
In a unique style of fan judging, Kristy Edge won the cheeroff for the first 7 trucks while Jimmy Creten won the cheeroff for the last 7 trucks to compete. The two would then go head to head in a cheeroff for the win, and in a surprise decision, the call was given to Edge as she picked up one of the biggest wins of her young career.
Two shows are in the books here in La Porte, but the Sunday night finale is still to come!! (05/30/09) Runte, Creten Take La Porte Friday Night Wins!!: The inaugural monster truck show kicked off tonight in La Porte, Indiana and it was Dan Runte and Jimmy Creten taking home the big racing and freestyle wins!! The final round of racing came down to Runte in Summit Bigfoot and Jon Zimmer in Amsoil Shock Therapy. Runte had dominated his competition up to the finals while Zimmer had knocked out Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter in the first round. Both trucks launched off the line strong but Runte powered away through no-man's land, up and over the final jump and across the finish line for the win.
Freestyle would see solid runs from much of the field, including an early effort from the unique diesel powered Hushpower machine. Dave Radzierez put the truck through its paces on the large course, leaving a huge trail of black smoke in his wake to the delight of the crowd.
The action kicked into high gear when Sean Duhon in the Cult Energy Activator took to the track, as Sean laid down a strong run that saw big air and some nice donuts.
Jon Zimmer in Amsoil Shock Therapy put together a great, fast-paced run that would appear tough to beat, catching huge air and giving the fans all they could ask for.
Although it wouldn't be quite as good as Zimmer's effort, Mitch Tulachka in Geter Done impressed, laying down a great run that featured some big moves and the hands down best donuts of the night.
Jimmy Creten would roll to the track in Bounty Hunter knowing he had to do something great to defeat Zimmer. Creten proceeded to fly around the track, hitting everything in his path, cross threading obstacles and catching big air. When the time came for the crowd to decide the winner, it was clear that Zimmer and Creten had the best efforts but the cheers were just a bit louder for Bounty Hunter giving Creten the big freestyle victory.
That was all for night one in La Porte, stay tuned for more results!! (05/29/09) Monster Trucks This Weekend In LaPorte, IN!!: The first ever monster truck show is coming to the LaPorte, IN Fairgrounds this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!! Monster Spectacular Tour Update - "A Tale

One day. Two teams. Two

Monster Madness Tour Continues With Two More Show In Two Days!!: The Edge Motor-sports Monster Madness Tour was back in high gear its second week out with two more shows in two say. It all started Friday night in Cornerbrook, NewFoundland for another sold out show. In another strong racing showing, Shelley Kujat nailed down the win in Shell Camino. All the drivers put forth solid freestyle efforts and in the end, a winner couldn't be determined.
The teams loaded up and headed out just after 2AM on their way to St. John's for the next night's show. After a thrash to get Kevin Koszala's EasyRiders machine and Brad Campbell's Public Disturbance race ready, the crew was ready to perform in front of a standing room only crowd. Shelley continued her to impress in racing, taking another win while Jennifer Campbell nailed down the freestyle victory in Bombshell after a wild contest.
The teams are now off to Ottawa, Ontario over 1500 miles away for the next show in two weeks. A big thanks to Ron Kujat with the Shell Camino team for keeping us up to date on all the goings on with the '09 Edge tour! (05/21/09) Miami, OK O'Reilly Outlaw Nationals Recap!!: TheMonsterBlog.com was back in Miami, OK this weekend for the fourth straight year, and we can hands down say this has been the best yet!! Eight trucks including Bounty Hunter, Barbarian, Tail Gator, and more competed Friday and Saturday in racing, wheelie and freestyle contests. The competition level was great as the six total contests provided five different winners and the weekend was not without its share of carnage. The weekend would kick off Friday night with side-by-side racing and it would be a repeat of last year as Tail Gator met Bounty Hunter in the finals. Doug Noelke would just edge out Darren Migues for the racing win in the classic match-up.
The wheelie contest would be one of the best we've ever seen as each driver out seemed to top the driver before them. It started with Paul Strong in Martial Law spiking the tailgate to set the bar high, but then Devin Jones in Barbarian put on a show for the hometown fans, standing the truck up and down twice. Darren Migues in Bounty Hunter upped the ante even more by catching some big air and planting it on the tailgate, but Doug Noelke's straight up and down slap wheelie seemed to have the win nailed down. But then Jerry Perry rolled out in his newly purchased Brute Force ride and skyed the truck before planting the tailgate in the cars to top them all. As he charged to the far end of the track, he attempted to throw the truck into a donut but the rear tires hooked on the tacky dirt and sent Brute Force over for both the truck and driver's first ever rollover.
Freestyle wouldn't disappoint as all the drivers put forth strong efforts. Paul Strong was on his way to a great run but a nasty rollover and broken wheel would end his night after the truck kicked sideways during a slap wheelie attempt.
Despite a great run from Doug Noelke in Tail Gator, Devin Jones put on a show in front of his hometown crowd that seemed sure to take the win. But Darren Migues in Bounty Hunter had other ideas and proceeded to charge all over the track, hitting everything flat out and catching huge air over the bus stack. In an incredibly close decision, Migues picked up the narrow win over Barbarian to close the show Friday night.
Saturday night's racing competition would once again feature some photo finishes and tough competition. By a razor thin margin, Andy Hoffman managed to take down Doug Noelke and Tail Gator in the semi-finals to advance to the final round against Bounty Hunter. After dominating the O'Reilly Outlaw Nationals indoor tour, Andy was determind to put a win on the board. In a close race, Hoffman laid down one of the quickest passes of the night in Nitemare to take home the big racing victory.
Friday night's wheelie contest would be tough to equal, but the drive of the competitors was only getting more intense. Andy Hoffman, fresh off his racing win, led off the contest and pulled off an unbelievable twisting sky wheelie that looked like it could hold for the win. A great effort from Bounty Hunter wouldn't be enough, but Devin Jones stood Barbarian up and down in a huge slap wheelie down the center of the floor to just edge Hoffman.
Every Miami, OK event over the years has featured a great tough truck competition and this year was no different. The final eight Saturday night would feature some of the most intense against the clock racing we've seen with great passes by the likes of Robert Hand in Bearfoot and Matt Schumacher in Iron Horse. With Schumacher holding down the lead and looking tough, Steve Darnell nailed the final turn in Mischief and turned in one of the fastest times of the night to take the lead. John Jungeblut made a valiant effort at the win, rolling Thunderstruck in the final turn, but the night would be Darnell's as he took the big hometown victory. We also want to encourage all of our tough truck friends to head on over and check out the all-new www.MidwestToughTrucks.com online community we've put together. Sign up and share your photos, videos, show info, buy/sell ads and post on the forum!! We'll be posting all of our tough truck photos and videos there from now on, so check there for coverage as well!!
Freestyle would once again see nice efforts from the whole field, but it all came down to Devin Jones in Barbarian and Darren Migues in Bounty Hunter. Despite a classic run from Migues with tons of momentum, huge air and donuts, Devin simply wouldn't be beat Saturday night in front of all his friends and family. A legendary freestyle run from Barbarian that saw huge air, slap wheelies, sky wheelies and a nice save would nail down the hometown win.
A huge thanks to John Darnell and the whole MAP Motorsports crew for a great weekend, all of their hospitality, and a kudos on putting forth a great event. Another thanks to all the monster and tough truck drivers for their hard-charging all weekend. Stay tuned for what will undoubtedly be one of our best episodes of TMB TV this year, tons of photos and much, much more!! Monster Madness Tour Begins With 3 Day, 3 City, 3 Show Weekend!!: The 2009 Edge Motorsports season kicked off this past weekend with a crazy schedule that saw the four competing trucks race each of the three days in a different venue, in a different city, and even a different Canadian province!! Friday the trucks were in Saint John, New Brunswick, Saturday in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and Sunday they finished up in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Shell Camino, Public Disturbance, Bombshell and Easyriders would be the trucks running from city to city in front of the three sold out crowds.
Brad Campbell led the way after the first weekend with a total of five wins from the combined nine racing, freestyle and wheelie contests. Jen Campbell in Bombshell picked up a freestyle win after a hard rollover Friday night, and grabbed a wheelie win on Sunday. Shelley Kujat and Kevin Koszala managed to grab a racing win a piece in Shell Camino and Easyriders. A big thanks to Ron Kujat with the Shell Camino team for the recap and the photos!! (05/05/09) Larry Quick Pulls Off the Backflip In Ghost Ryder!!: For years they said it couldn’t be done, and now it has been done for the second time in just over a month as Larry Quick and Ghost Ryder pulled off the backflip Saturday in Vermont!! After over a year of planning this attempt, Quick traveled to Vermont riding a huge wave of momentum in a year that has seen Larry capture an incredible 37 wins. The first attempt Saturday wouldn’t quite get the job done as Quick got about halfway around before Ghost Ryder ended up on its lid. With one try under his belt, knowing what he needed to do differently, Larry went for the second attempt and nailed it!!
Larry Quick is now the second monster truck driver to successfully land the backflip after Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction pulled off the feat practicing to perform the stunt at the World Finals. Quick is however the first driver to successfully land a backflip at an event, and the first to perform the stunt with a rear-engined, naturally aspirated monster truck. All of us at The Monster Blog congratulate Larry Quick and the Quick Motorsports team on an amazing accomplishment, we simply couldn't be happier for them. Be sure to tune into Motorsports Live Radio tommorrow night at 9PM Eastern to hear from the man himself!! (05/03/09) Springfield, MO Monster Truck Thunder Drags Season Opener!!: The season opener for the 2009 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals tour and the Monster Truck Thunder Drags was this past weekend in Springfield, MO and The Monster Blog was on hand for all the action!! A stacked lineup including Dan Runte in Summit Bigfoot, Jim Koehler in Avenger and Jocelyn Perrin in High Maintenance, along with Brutus, Spike and the new General Tire sponsored truck would compete for three shows in side-by-side drag racing and freestyle at the Missouri Entertainment & Events Center. Chris Bergeron in Brutus would kickoff the new season in style by taking the first racing win over Dan Runte and Summit Bigfoot. But from there on out, racing would be all Bigfoot as Runte took the Saturday night and Sunday afternoon victories.
Freestyle was ultra competitive as all drivers turned in strong performances throughout the weekend. Two-time and defending Monster Nationals Freestyle Champion Jocelyn Perrin made the most of her first Jamboree appearance with three great runs, including a wild move Saturday afternoon that saw High Maintenance stuck vertical on the car stack after a past vertical wheelie.
Steve Koehler drove the wheels off the new General Tire sponsored truck, laying down strong freestyles in both shows Saturday before breaking the new body in “Team Scream style” Sunday, rolling the truck over after a wild slap wheelie on the wet concrete.
Jim Koehler entered the weekend as the favorite in freestyle and didn’t disappoint in the first show, airing out Avenger on his way to the freestyle victory. But a blown motor during Saturday night’s racing competition would end the weekend early for Mr. Excitement.
Dan Runte in Summit Bigfoot was impressive in freestyle as well as racing this weekend, turning in the winning performance Saturday night after a run filled with slap wheelies, big air and wild cyclones.
The final freestyle competition would see the field down to four trucks after Avenger and Spike were sidelined with motor problems after Saturday. It would nonetheless be a great contest, as all four trucks laid down great runs. But the best one would come from Chris Bergeron as he launched Brutus time after time, catching the biggest air of the weekend and finished with the wildest, longest set of cyclones of the weekend.
Not even the nasty weather Sunday could stop this weekend from being one of the better Springfield Jamborees in recent memory, and we thank all of the crew from Family Events for their hospitality this weekend. A big thanks for the combined video work from Colby Marshall, Shane Skinner and Kaedon Berry, be watching for all of that in the next episode of TMB TV, coming soon. Also watch for a full photo gallery from all the weekend’s action in the future!! (05/03/09) Laughlin Outlaw Monster Truck Spectacular Recap!!: The Outlaw Monster Truck Spectacular returned to the Avi Casino in Laughlin, Nevada for a wild night of monster truck freestyle Saturday. The first round of freestyle would see Travis Sturges take the win in his first event of the year driving ½ Pint. Round two would come down to a cheeroff between Ronnie Sturges in Nasty Boy and Jack Koberna in the Rislone Cyborg, with Koberna getting the victory after ending his run on his roof. The final round would be all Nasty Boy however, as Ronnie Sturges wheelied his way to the win, also clinching the overall win for the evening. A big thanks to Steve Quercio and the Outlaw staff for their hospitality, and to Lauren & Lynette Bonar for covering the event. Stay tuned for a full photo gallery and video from the event coming soon!! (05/03/09)
