King Krunch, Avenger Take Wins In Texas Saturday Night!!:  The Great American Monster Truck Race wrapped up tonight in Texas as two new faces took the spotlight in victory lane!!  The racing finals would feature a rematch of Friday night's battle as Dan Runte in Bigfoot took out Daron Basl in El Matador in the semi-finals, while David Smith in King Krunch beat Debra Miceli in Madusa Bigfoot. Smith had the inside in the final turn and powered out of it, edging Runte at the finish line by just over a truck length to take the big racing victory. Freestyle would see standout performances from many of the trucks, but in the end it was Jim Kohler in Avenger holding the trophy after putting on a great show for the Texas fans.

Major League of Monster Trucks Rocks Charlotte!!:  The Circle K Back to School Monster Truck Bash kicked off a new era for the sport as the Major League of Monster Trucks officially arrived last night in Charlotte, NC!!  The prestigious racing title would not be one easily won, as the drivers would have to contend over a complex, technical course which featured a bus as the first obstacle. Mark Hall in Raminator started off the night by taking the top qualifying position and never looked back, ultimately meeting Dan Runte in Bigfoot in the racing finale. A great battle ensued between the two veteran drivers with Hall taking the big victory in Raminator!

The event also featured a long jump competition which would put the trucks to the test as drivers attempted to one-up each other's distance. Dawn Creten in Scarlet Bandit started off the competition with a great leap of 70 feet off the center bus stack, and one by one, other trucks failed to match her mark. Only one truck remained as Creten still held the lead, but that one truck was Equalizer with driver Mike Hawkins behind the wheel. Hawkins roared up the dirt ramp and soared to a distance very similar to that of Creten. The crowd waited in suspense until the news came over the intercome, a distance of 74 feet for Hawkins who was declared the winner!

Freestyle would close out the evening's competition. As the track announcers put it, the racing is for the drivers but freestyle is for the fans!  Strong performances came from many of the trucks but when Carl Van Horn in Traxxas T-Maxx took to the track, the bar was raised to new heights. CVH laid down an exciting, fast-paced run that ended with an impressive combo move that began with a huge hit on the RV camper, riding the landing out in a wheelie, then leaping over the car set before finally rolling after a bad bounce. Jim Kohler in Avenger was next to the track and put on a great freestyle, but his finishing move--blasting through the RV camper before rolling the truck onto its side--came after the 90-seconds had elapsed, not counting toward his final score. After Equalizer's run fell short as well, Carl Van Horn was officially crowned the Back to School Monster Truck Bash freestyle champion!

The first major event for the newly formed MLMT series lived up to its billing as one of the biggest of the year, and they are just getting started. Texas, Las Vegas, Kentucky, Memphis, and Nashville, get ready because you are next on the '07 MLMT tour!  A huge thanks to Joe Froome, Rich Schaefer, and the entire MLMT crew for their hard work to put together this new series and for beginning to take the sport of monster trucks to the next level. Keep en eye on www.MLMT.com for all the information on this fall's events and watch for big news on what they have in store for 2008. We thank MLMT for their hospitality this weekend and we look forward to covering the series as "The Biggest Championship In The World" is decided!  Tons of coverage coming your way right here on TheMonsterBlog.com--keep checking back!!  (08/19/07)

Grave Digger Sweeps Clash of the Titans Night Two!!:  Pablo Huffaker made an early exit in the first round last night at Rocky Mountain Raceway, but that showing only made him more determined than ever to put forth a great showing in Grave Digger tonight as he completed a clean sweep of the event!!
Pablo started the night off by taking the top qualifier position, breaking the RMR track record held previously by, you guessed it, Pablo Huffaker. Pablo knocked off Doug Charles in Monster Patrol in the first round, while Kaptain Insano, Firestone Bigfoot, Dragon Slayer, King Krunch, Maverik Monster Trakker also advanced.

In round two Grave Digger continued his march, defeating Kaptain Insano. The previous night's winner Dan Runte continued running strong, putting away Kreg Christensen in Dragon Slayer. King Krunch also moved on after defeating Ron Duncombe in Maverik Monster Trakker.
The semi-finals saw another chance for Paul Jensen and the Kaptain after getting the fast loser berth, but he would be matched-up against Pablo once more and Grave Digger defeated him on his way to the finals. The match-up between Dan Runte and David Smith was a great one, and in the end it was Smith piloting King Krunch to the win and the chance at Digger.

After blowing a motor the previous night and working all the way up until race time to get King Krunch ready for action, David Smith was hoping for the storybook ending that rewarded all that hard work with a win. But Pablo Huffaker was not to be denied and soared his way to the win, returning to victory lane at Rocky Mountain Raceway!!
Tonight's event also featured a freestyle competition to close out the show, and the big surprise was a great showing from Roger Stidel in Captain USA. Stidel rode out what was said to be one of the longest wheelies ever performed at RMR, but even that wouldn't be enough to overcome the wild, big-air freestyle from Grave Digger who completed the clean sweep of the evening. Kreg Christensen in Dragon took third, while Dan Runte in Firestone Bigfoot and Aaron Basl in Blacksmith tied for fourth to round out the top-five.

It was yet another great weekend of monster trucks at Rocky Mountain Raceway, as the speedway continues to provide one of the annual must-see events. A big thanks to Mark Pittman and the entire Rocky Mountain Raceway staff for welcoming TheMonsterBlog.com to this year's event and for their hospitality throughout the weekend!!  Also thanks to our Staff Members Lauren & Lynette Bonar for making the trip up to Utah this weekend so that we can bring you coverage of this year's Maverik Clash of the Titans. Watch for tons of photos and video from the weekend's events coming soon right here on TheMonsterBlog.com!!

- TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS UPDATE: Night two of the Maverik Clash of the Titans saw Dan Runte retain the the lead in TheMonsterBlog.com 2007 Tournament of Champions by the slimmest of margins over Pablo Huffaker in Grave Digger!!  Pablo picked up 25 points for his racing and freestyle wins, while Dan received 2.5 points for his Semi-Final appearance, giving him 27.5 total for the weekend. David Smith put King Krunch on the board, receiving 7.5 points for his runner-up showing, and Paul Jensen also picked up 2.5 points as the other Semi-Finalist. Head on over to our Tournament of Champions page for more information!! (08/12/07)

All Bigfoot Final At Clash of the Titans Night One - UPDATE - Photos!!:  Night one of the Maverik Clash of the Titans at Rocky Mountain Raceway is in the books and it was an all Bigfoot final round!!  The great night of Figure-8 monster truck racing started with David Smith in King Krunch taking fast qualifier. The biggest upset of the night came in the first round when Ron Duncombe in Maverik Monster Trakker took out Grave Digger when Pablo Huffaker spun out in the corner.

The second round would see Dan Runte in Firestone Bigfoot taking out teammate Keith Sturgeon in Bigfoot, Aaron Basl in Blacksmith defeating Maverik Monster Trakker, and King Krunch beating teammate Daron Basl in El Matador. Unfortunately Smith toasted a motor in King Krunch which would put an early end to what was shaping up to be a promising evening.

The semi-finals saw the return of Keith Sturgeon as the fast-loser from the previous round, and also coming back was Daron Basl, replacing the sidelined King Krunch. Dan Runte put away El Matador to advance to the championship race. Sturgeon made the most of his second chance, defeating Blacksmith and winning the chance to meet Runte once again, this time in the finals.
The final round match-up was set between the veteran and the newcomer, and just for an extra twist on things, the trucks would be running two laps around the Figure-8 course to decide the night's overall winner. Despite the best efforts of Keith Sturgeon, Dan Runte piloted Firestone Bigfoot to the win, defeating his teammate by about three lengths at the finish line. Congrats to Dan Runte on yet another big win!

Thanks to Mark Pittman and the entire Rocky Mountain Raceway staff for welcoming TheMonsterBlog.com to this year's event!!  Night one featured some great racing and there is more in store tomorrow as the monsters take the track for more Figure-8 racing and freestyle as well. Check out www.RMRRacing.com for more information, and be watching The Monster Blog for all the results as Staff Members Lauren & Lynette Bonar cover the weeekend's events!!

Kentucky Speedway Adds Monster October Event To 2007 Season!!:  (Sparta, KY)  Kentucky Speedway will shake with the thunder of high-horsepower Monster Trucks Saturday, Oct. 13 when the Major League of Monster Trucks (MLMT) makes its first visit to the motorsports facility for a one-night-only event.
Fan-favorite trucks such as Avenger, Big Foot, Brutus, El Matador, Gunslinger, King Krunch, Raminator, Samson and the Scarlet Bandit will part of the 12-truck field that will race at more than 70 mph on a challenging, custom-designed dirt track filled with jumps and bumps that will be constructed over the paved infield quarter-mile track at speedway.
The 8,500- to 11,000-pound trucks equipped with engines producing up to 2,200 horsepower will qualify for positions in three preliminary rounds of head-to-head competition and two trucks will reach the fourth and final round of the night.
“We’re bringing the racing back to Monster Trucks at faster speeds with higher jumps on tracks containing bigger obstacles,” Major League of Monster Trucks President Joe Froome said. “Today’s form of monster truck racing at venues such as Kentucky Speedway brings an elevated level of competition that can’t be seen anywhere. Trucks compete on a course that challenges a driver’s ability as well as the durability of the race machine.”
Trucks also will catch air and crush cars during a freestyle competition that will follow the race competition.
Kentucky Speedway is one of six well-known motorsports facilities that will play host to MLMT events this year. The league also will compete at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the dirt tracks at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway and Memphis Motorsports Park.
“We are delighted that MLMT selected our venue to be a part of its major U.S. motorsports facility growth plan,” Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Cassis said. “This event certainly keeps pace with our strategic direction of delivering new and innovative motorsports entertainment options to our fans and sponsors in the Tri-state and expanding our operating season into the fall.”
General admission main grandstand tickets for the first-of-its kind Kentucky Speedway event are $20 for adults and $10 for children age 3 through 12. Children age 2 and younger will be admitted free and $30 reserved Bluegrass Club seats also are available.
Log on to www.MLMT.com for more Major League of Monster Trucks information. Tickets are on sale now and can be reserved online at www.kentuckyspeedway.com, by phone at 888-652-RACE (7223), through Tickets.com and Tickets.com outlets including Meijer stores or in person at the Kentucky Speedway ticket offices in Ft. Mitchell, Ky., at 400 Buttermilk Pike, Suite 100 near The Montgomery Inn or the Sparta, Ky., Fan Center located off of Interstate 71 Exit 57 and Ky. Hwy. 35 North. (08/08/07)

Super-Sized Lineup for Back to School Monster Truck Bash!!: (MLMT PR)  The monster sized line-up has been unveiled for the August 18th event to be held at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. And we told you this year was going to bigger than ever and we meant it! Eight trucks just isn’t enough for a place this big. So for 2007, we’re taking it up to 12 trucks.
The 2007 edition of the Circle K “Back To School Monster Truck Bash” includes many of the favorites that have traditionally been a part of the greatest event in monster truck racing. The bad boys from Michigan, AVENGER and BRUTUS return to once again defend their Monster Truck Challenge titles. But the Lucas Oil team of EQUALIZER and HOT TAMALE have been right on their heels. Of course, anyone at the 2006 Lowe’s Motor Speedway saw HOT TAMALE make an early exit from racing with one of the most spectacular racing crashes this sport has ever seen. To everyone’s relieve, driver Isaias Morales was able to walk away with nothing but a destroyed truck and a disappointing finish.
Returning to the Circle K event are three of the strongest racing competitors in the history of the sport. Dan Patrick, owner of the SAMSON monster truck designs and builds the winningest chassis in the sport of monster truck racing today. Without a doubt, his flagship vehicle, SAMSON is a threat to take it all in Charlotte. But he’ll have to get by the Dodge boys hemi powered RAMINATOR monster truck and BIGFOOT. When it comes to big horsepower tracks, these three monsters are in a class of their own.
Last year the crowd went nuts when Andy Hoffman took on the bus stack in reverse with his NITEMARE Chevrolet out of Indiana. NITEMARE returns for his third visit to Lowe’s Motor Speedway in hopes of taking home the hardware at the end of the night.
The first lady of monster truck racing makes her Charlotte debut when Dawn Creten joins the field with the CSK Auto Parts SCARLET BANDIT Ford Expedition. Dawn has been showing the boys for years that monster truck racing isn’t just a sport for the men. And the CSK team comes with only winning in mind. Let there be no mistake about it. She’s not an underdog. She’s not just another great truck from the CSK Auto Part team. Dawn Creten is a contender. And if you make the slightest mistake, she’ll fly right past you for the win.
The first time we at the Monster Truck Challenge had the pleasure of meeting Carl Van Horn he was a hired gun for Randy Brown competing at our Weedsport, New York event several years ago. Today, he’s still a hired gun and one of the most impressive drivers we’ve ever seen. And we’ve seen a lot. Making his Lowe’s Motor Speedway debut, Carl Van Horn will definitely take it to the max as the man behind the wheel of the T-MAXX GMC monster truck. Without a doubt, Carl Van Horn will make the flash bulbs pop when it’s time for freestyle.
When the first generation Monster Truck Challenge was underway back in the 1980’s there was one truck out of the great state of Texas that was a consistent fixture on the national championship tour of monster trucks. The driver has changed. But the legacy of KING KRUNCH lives on and on August 18th will return to Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Interesting enough, it was 1997 when KING KRUNCH suffered what is still today known as the most frightening and dramatic crash in monster truck racing. Scott Stephens took a ride end over end that absolutely destroyed the Texas monster. The location of the crash was Lowes’s Motor Speedway. We can only hope for better fortunes with David Smith at the controls of the truck today.
While his partner, Dave focuses on the freestyle program, Daron Basl is the driving force behind the other half of the Flame Motorsports team and places his bets in racing. Basl’s EL MATADOR has been lightning quick off the line and with a cool head piloting the ship is quick to make adjustments mid-track to keep the EL MATADOR shiny side up in racing.
The 2007 Circle K Back To School Monster Truck Bash features 12 of the greatest trucks to ever hit the dirt. It’s all in and it’s all up for grabs on August 18th when the lights come on at the Dirt Track at Lowe’s motor Speedway.
