Huffaker Still #1 on TMB's "Road to the World Finals"!!:  Pablo Huffaker continued his amazing season in Grave Digger this past weekend as a major stadium freestyle win in San Diego helped him retain the #1 spot in TMB's "Road to the World Finals" unofficial point standings. Tom Meents and Dennis Anderson moved up to second and third respectively, each with a major stadium racing victory, while Randy Brown slipped to fourth overall and Linsey Weenk took over the fifth position. Tons more action on the Monster Jam tour is coming up this weekend, stay tuned to TMB's "Road to the World Finals" to see how our unofficial standings change!!

For those not familiar with TMB's "Road to the World Finals" unofficial point standings, this is simply our way of trying to see which drivers have earned the right to compete at the World Finals based on their actual performance. These "power rankings" have no bearing on the way Feld Entertainment actually chooses the competitors, its just our way of following along with the Monster Jam season and recognizing outstanding driver performance. Big News for 2010 From Extreme Monster Trucks Australia!!:  The great folks from Extreme Monster Trucks Australia always do a great job of keeping us at TMB up to date with everything going on down under, and they've got some great things happening!!  The biggest news is really more of a teaser, as dates will be released shortly for what will likely be one of the biggest monster truck tours outside of Monster Jam to ever be seen, anywhere in the world. Many surprises are expected in this announcement as negotiations are underway for some big name U.S. teams to join this tour, which will include dates in Australia, New Zealand and even Asia.
Another huge news item this week was monster truck driving debut for superstar motorcycle stunt rider Robbie Maddison. Holder of several world records, fans will recognize Maddison as the rider who made the famous jumps on the Arc de Triomphe in front of Paris Las Vegas during the 2009 Red Bull New Year's Eve No Limits event. Under the guidance of Clive Featherby and the USA's Corey Clarke, Maddison learned fast, even clearing all the cars on his very first jump in Raptor's Rampage. Both Corey and Clive compared his initial work behind the wheel to that of fellow motorcycle star Travis Pastrana. Robbie is a true natural and will be a huge asset to monster trucks in Australia.

Additionally, Its no secret that Clive is having a specially built, short-wheelbase backflip truck constructed and he has asked Robbie to debut the truck for him on the huge tour previously mentioned. Avenger, Samson, Raptors Rampage and Scooby are the only names that are being included in the TV releases about the tour and it is expected that the other U.S. trucks will be announced soon.
Clive Featherby says he spent close to two million dollars buying trucks and parts to improve the Extreme Monster Trucks Australia fleet last year, and this year he expects to spend at least the same amount just establishing the Asia market. There had been a bit of a hold up in planning, but now its all systems go as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand are all definitely confirmed, along with the Aussie capitals and New Zealand. In addition to the monsters, events are expected to feature a massive pyro extravaganza, four jet vehicles, freestyle motocross and a waterscreen laser light spectacular, all making these the potential tour of the decade.
A big thanks to the Extreme Monster Trucks Australia team for keeping us up to date on all that they are working on, stay tuned to TMB and Extreme Monster Trucks Australia for more news as this massive tour comes together!!  (01/15/10)

R.I.P. Jan Gabriel (1940-2010):  A legendary figure in the world of monster trucks has passed away - Jan Gabriel, you will be missed. Many monster truck fans will remember Jan Gabriel for his great work in the famous monster truck home videos, Battle of the Monster Trucks, Return of the Monster Trucks and War of the Monster Trucks. Mr. Gabriel was also credited for the "Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!" catch phrase that became synonymous with motorsports and monster trucks. For more information, click here. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Gabriel's family. To Mr. Gabriel - thanks for all the memories. (01/14/10)

TMB "Road to the World Finals" Unofficial Ranking System Returns for 2010!!:  One of our most popular features each year on TheMonsterBlog.com is back for 2010, as we once again rank drivers week to week in our "Road to the World Finals" Unofficial Point Standings!!  Fans always wonder exactly how USHRA selects its 24 competitors for the annual Monster Jam World Finals, and so do we. We also often wonder just how all the drivers stack up against each other throughout and at the end of the year. Without a national points system for the Monster Jam series, it is awfully hard to do so as they often run events in up to 10-15 different venues in a single weekend. So for the 4th year in a row, TMB will be operating our "Road to the World Finals" UNOFFICIAL point standings for the Monster Jam series based straight from results available at USHRA.com. This is our way of ranking the drivers based on their performance throughout the season and gives us a good idea of which drivers have earned a spot in the World Finals, whether they ultimately end up being selected or not.

If you didn't follow along last year, we're sure that you have many questions about how we put this together: How does it work? Which events are we including? How are the points awarded? etc. In our "Road to the World Finals" section, we have a detailed rationale and explanation that should answer most of these questions. Last year, Dennis Anderson scored the most points by an impressive margin in our ranking system after one of the best seasons of his career. Who will be tops in 2010? Follow along and let's find out together!
So far in the 2009-2010 season, Pablo Huffaker has accumulated the most points in Grave Digger after sweeping Montgomery, AL last week and doubling down in Houston, TX this past weekend. Anderson is in second with Tom Meents in Maximum Destruction up to third after sweeping in Atlanta. Gary Porter had the most dominating performance of the weekend, sweeping racing and freestyle in three shows in Columbus, Ohio.
Check out the "Road to the World Finals" section for all the results thus far and the current standings. Keep in mind this is all unofficial and is just for fun and enjoy as we follow the Monster Jam series all the way to the World Finals in March right here on TMB!!  (01/13/10)

Trenton, NJ Monster Truck Winter Nationals Recap & Photos!!:  TheMonsterBlog.com was back on the road this weekend for the first CFP Monster Truck Winter Nationals event of 2010!!  Larry Swim in Bigfoot Bad Boy started the weekend off strong, winning racing and freestyle Friday night while Bill Payne in Rock Star won the wheelie contest. Saturday would see the emergence of a new star in monster trucks, as Greg Winchenbach drove his wild new "monster lobster", the Crushstation, to racing wins in both shows over Bigfoot and picked up the evening wheelie contest victory. Swim was solid again in the afternoon event, winning freestyle after an amazing save and getting the wheelie win, ripping the tailgate and bedside off in the process. Bill Payne in Rock Star struggled with breakage, but still managed to pull out the big freestyle win Saturday night after rolling hard off the center van stack. The weekend also saw strong efforts from California Kid, Viper and War Eagle. After the long three-show weekend, Larry Swim emerged as the CFP points leader as the tour moves on to Salem, VA.

MS. BIGFOOT Returns for 2010!!:  (Indianapolis, IN) More BIG news has been released by the boys and girls at BIGFOOT® 4x4 Inc. in St. Louis this week that is sure to have girls every where revving their engines with excitement. As part of their 35th Anniversary celebration, Team BIGFOOT (who brought you BIGFOOT #1, The Original Monster Truck®) are rolling out a modern-day replica of their famed "Ms. BIGFOOT" truck, which originally debuted in the mid-1980's.

The truck features a more lady-like graphics package, and will make its competition debut on May 1st in Springfield, MO at the 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals. As one might expect, the 1500hp race truck will be piloted by a female driver; however, the BIGFOOT camp is staying tight-lipped about who their driver (or drivers) will be for the truck's schedule. For more information on the BIGFOOT team, including their 2010 schedule of events, visit them at www.bigfoot4x4.com.  (01/06/10)

Estero, FL Monster Truck Spectacular Photos & Video!!:  TheMonsterBlog.com kicked off 2010 in sunny Florida as the Winter Nationals Monster Truck Spectacular made its first ever appearance at Estero's Germain Arena!!  Predator, Razin Kane, Prowler, Reptoid and Pouncer competed in wheelie, racing and freestyle contests over two shows on Saturday. Chris Lagana in Razin Kane served notice that he will be one to watch in his rookie season, taking wheelie and racing wins in the afternoon event. Allen Pezo in Predator drove his way to the freestyle win over teammate Lenny Kuilder in Prowler for his first win of the new season.

The evening event would see Jim Jack in Reptoid win the wheelie contest on crowd applause despite great efforts by Predator. In racing Pezo would get a rematch against Lagana and Razin Kane and this time the veteran took out the rookie for the win. Lagana would be looking for his first freestyle win to end the night and after a couple big wheelies, he threw Razin Kane into a donut. Major breakage would end Razin Kane's run early, but the home state crowd was solidly in his camp after a strong effort. Overcoming solid runs by the rest of the field, Lagana won the crowd cheeroff going away and Razin Kane was the night's freestyle victor.
TMB sends out a big thank you to J.W. Wagner and Charlie McNeil for helping out with video and photos at the event, they did an awesome job. Check out the links below to see their photo gallery and video highlights from the event, our first coverage in the new year!!  (01/05/10)

Sudden Impact Racing Debuts Retro Excaliber Scheme!!: (Jefferson, LA) Jon Zimmer, Carl Van Horn, and Chris Ryan headed to Montgomery, Alabama with fresh trucks after a long, hard December of testing and tuning Amsoil Shock Therapy and Excaliber with one goal in mind - to win!  This weekend Excaliber debuted its new “retro” paint job for the public:

The crowd loved the new-look Excaliber, and Zimmer and CVH set to work, with VanHorn taking second place in Saturday’s freestyle, followed by planting the truck on the tailgate in the wheelie contest and getting to the racing finals on Sunday.
“It felt good to be behind the wheel again, and the truck is great,” said VanHorn. “We worked out a few minor issues on both trucks; we’re sticking with what works, and Houston will be a good show for us next weekend too!”
For Zimmer’s part, he skied and wheelied Amsoil Shock Therapy all over the course, leaving the crowd on their feet screaming for more, and fell just short of the freestyle victory in a contest that could have gone either way. Full results can be seen at www.MonsterJamOnline.com.
Overall, both drivers were happy with their performances and Chris “Panda” Ryan helped keep the trucks in working order, and as week one of the 2010 season is in the books, the team will look to improve on a spectacular start. Houston is next! For more information on the team, check out www.SuddenImpact.com!!  (01/04/10)
