Vaters Monster Motorsports Acquires "Kamikaze"l!!:  The Vaters Monster Motorsports team based out of Hagerstown, MD has acquired the "Kamikaze" jet 4-wheeler!!  The team is already booking their new toy for 2008 and venues & promoters seemed hyped up about using two jets as part of their monster truck show. After acquiring Kamikaze from Paul Stender, Vaters Monster Motorsports now has the only two jet-powered vehicles of their kind. Mikey Vaters or Trey Meyers will be driving the second jet when both are booked, with Mike driving the Psycho. The Kamikaze Jet ATV is capable of reaching speeds of 200 mph, with its T58 General Electric Engine making 2,000 horsepower. For more information on the Kamikaze Jet ATV and the entire Vaters Monster Motorsports team which includes the Black Stallion and Iron Warrior monster trucks, check out www.VatersMotorsports.com or www.BlackStallion4x4.com!!  (11/29/07)

MTRA Meeting To Feature Two Special Guest Speakers!!: (Union, MO) The Monster Truck Racing Association would like to announce that two very special guest speakers have been lined up for the 21st Annual Meeting and Banquet, which will be held December 15th in St. Louis, MO at the Westport Sheraton.
SFI spokesman Carl Olson will discuss what the SFI is, what it does, and how parts become SFI approved. He will welcome questions about SFI specs and how they apply to the world of monster truck racing. Olson is a very accomplished member of the motorsports community. He is a former member of the SEMA board of directors, and is a member of the SEMA hall of fame. A former vice president of the NHRA, and an NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Olson has raced everything from midgets to top fuel dragsters to Bonneville land speed racers and has a real interest in monster truck racing. He leads meetings at the Performance Racing Industry show each year with sanctioning bodies from all forms of motorsports.
“We have been trying to land Carl as a guest speaker for several years,” stated MTRA President Tim Hall. “In fact, we had to request him a couple of years ago …just to get on his schedule. Seems all types of racing organizations want him to speak at their meetings…and we finally got him. I think his presentation will be very helpful and informative for our meeting attendees.”
In addition, attorney Chuck Todt will return to the MTRA meeting this year and offer members insight on the legal aspects of the business. Todt has spoken at the MTRA meeting before, and the discussion that developed was very insightful. He will also take questions from meeting attendees. MTRA Chairman of the Board Bob Chandler, said “Chuck has been around the MTRA since its inception, so he is very familiar with the business and the MTRA.”
The MTRA Board of Directors continues to strive to make the association even better, and the addition of these two distinguished guest speakers should prove very helpful to all MTRA members. Non-members are welcome to attend the Annual MTRA Meeting & Banquet, however there is a cost of $35.00 per person to attend the Banquet. Non-members planning to attend the Banquet should contact MTRA Secretary Brenda Noelke at contact@mtra.us or by phone at 636-234-6162 to be added to the count, as this year's Banquet will feature a sit-down dinner as oppossed to the buffet-style dinner that has been the norm over the past few years. Make your plans to attend today, more information at www.MTRA.us.  (11/26/07)

BIGFOOT Makes HOT ROD's 60th Anniversary Top 100!!:  BIGFOOT will be featured in the January 2008 issue of HOT ROD Magazine as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Hot Rods of all time!!  To celebrate their 60th anniversary, the HOT ROD staff and a few industry friends helped choose the 100 most influential vehicles in the history of hot rodding. From the article: "We justified our actions by picking cars based on a very specific criterion. In a word: influence. The cars we chose had to make a difference to the gearhead hobby, the racing sport, or the people in them. They had to be trend starters or fad killers, landmarks of style, or shepherds of technology that put a bend in the road of hot rodding."

#69 - Bob Chandler's BIGFOOT - “This'74 F-250 (with a'79 body) began as a promotional stunt for Bob Chandler's four-wheel-drive shop and ended up creating an entire monster truck craze that led to several sanctioning bodies and fans worldwide. Version 3 of the truck appeared on the Apr. '84 cover of HOT ROD. There have been 17 Big Foot trucks built since the first (shown here), all of them contributing significant developments to the sport of monster truck promotions and racing”.  All of this and more can be found in the January 2008 HOT ROD Magazine. Thanks to Bigfoot 4x4 for the update and photo, and a big congratulations for another well deserved honor bestowed upon the original monster truck!!  (11/25/07)

Obsession Racing Helps Out Make A Wish Foundation!!: (Menifee, CA) October 20th was a very fulfilling day for all of us at Obsession Racing. We played a special part in the Make A Wish fundraiser car show. The Make A Wish Foundation had over forty kids in attendance that all got to take a part in a very special day for them. The car show entries consisted of: motorcycles, hot rods, classic cars, vintage drag racing cars, boats, and our Monster Truck. The monster truck was a huge hit for the children and spectators.

Our special Make A Wish child had a very unique situation. Our child’s name was Everett and he is four years old. Everett has to have 24 hour supervision. His family and older brother are very dedicated to Everett needs and don’t want to leave him for any length of time. Everett has a big Brother named Wyatt who loves Monster Trucks. The Make A Wish foundation made it possible for Wyatt and his family to enjoy a day at a car show and meet a true Monster Truck driver and experience seeing a Monster truck up close and even sit behind the wheel. They had a special care nurse stay home with Everett so that they could have a day of fun. Wyatt was ecstatic to meet Rick and experience what it is like to be up inside a real racing Monster Truck.
After spending the time with Wyatt and his family, the part that stood out the most to Rick was when Wyatt gave him a big hug and said thank you. We would like to thank Monica for letting us help make children’s wishes come true and organizing Cruzin 4 Wishes.

Bigfoot, Dare Devil Take Family Arena Wins Saturday Night!!:  What a wild night at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO!!  The evening kicked off with an excellent wheelie contest that saw Rick Long in Bigfoot bring home the win with the support of the hometown crowd, despite stronger efforts coming from Keith Sturgeon in Snake Bite and Larry Swim in Dare Devil. Long left no question as to who the rightful winner of racing was however, blasting past all of the competition on his way to a final round win over Jim Jack in Reptoid. Larry Swim in Dare Devil didn't have as good of luck facing Reptoid in the first round, spiking the back of the truck into the concrete after a giant launch and ending up on his lid. All of the teams joined together to help get Dare Devil ready for freestyle, including a true class act move by Bennett Clark in allowing Swim to use his spare tire to replace the blown out one on Dare Devil.

Swim made great use of Dare Devil's second life, putting on a great freestyle that saw most of the already damaged fiberglass body end up on the Family Arena floor. Swim was declared the freestyle victor, with other notable attempts coming from Keith Sturgeon in Snake Bite and Rick Long in Bigfoot. A huge thanks to the folks at AMP Live Events for their hospitality and for putting on two great shows here in the St. Louis area. Tons of photos and video coming your way soon, stay tuned!  (11/10/07)

Clydesdale, Bigfoot Take Wins at the Family Arena!!:  The AMP Monster Truck Thunder Slam rolled into the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO tonight, and it was Bennett Clark taking the racing win in Clydesdale!  Rick Long in Bigfoot broke a rear planetary defeating Snake Bite in the semi-final round and was unable to make the finals, so Keith Sturgeon was to advance. But with Snake Bite overheating, the other final round berth went to Larry Swim in Dare Devil who fell to Clydesdale. Rick Long in Bigfoot brought home the wheelie and freestyle wins with the support of the hometown crowd, but it was Swim who stole the show in Daredevil. Swim laid down a strong freestyle run with some big sky wheelies and a great cyclone. The AMP Monster Truck Thunder Slam is back for an encore at the Family Arena tomorrow night, don't miss it!!  Check out www.FamilyArena.com for more information!!  (11/09/07)

But that's not the only truck from the Bigfoot 4x4 camp that will be competing--that's right, Long will be taking on teammate Keith Sturgeon in Snake Bite!!  Both drivers will contend with Jim Jack in Reptoid, Bennett Clark in Clydesdale, Wildmann and Daredevil for the wins over the two-day event. Dennis Anderson's Halloween R/C Monster Truck Bash Recap!!:  Dennis Anderson’s Halloween R/C Monster Truck Bash will go down as a milestone in R/C monster truck history. 184 entries from 13 states came to the world’s most famous full size monster truck shop for two days of nonstop action. No Limit R/C brought an amazing event together that tied full size motor sports personalities with their R/C counterparts. The ICON of monster trucks, and World Champion driver of Grave Digger, Dennis Anderson literally opens up his race shop, front yard and R/C racetrack to participants and spectators for these unique events.
Monster truck fans of all ages are given the opportunity to race their scaled down versions against drivers, crew chief’s and team managers of the full size trucks.Race side by side against the crew chief of your favorite Monster Jam truck, talk about chassis design and suspension set ups with the fabricators of the full size trucks, or the ultimate dream, have Dennis Anderson announce your R/C freestyle as hundreds of fans look on.

Many, 1st time entrants and spectators who drove many miles, anticipated that Dennis and the whole slew of drivers that participated would simply show up, wave to the fans and sign a few autographs, only to depart early. Not so, as Dennis and his entire family were at trackside from sun up until well after sun down. Mr. Monster truck himself, spent his days at the event talking to fans, taking pictures, racing, and providing race by race commentary. It is very rare indeed to encounter an individual with so much raw talent, charisma, and a genuine passion to please his fans.

The synergistic combination of his personality and expert race promotion and production of the No Limit team made this one of the best events in R/C history. Click here for a full recap of the event and for information on other R/C monster truck events, be sure to head on over to www.NoLimitRC.com. Bigfoot, Black Stallion Take Huge Wins In Montreal!!:  Monster trucks returned to Montreal Saturday night and over 50,000 fans turned out for an incredible Monster Spectacular!!  Racing was intense all night at the Big O for the annual fall edition of the Monster Spectacular, with twelve trucks competing. Mitch Tulachka in Geter Done made a great showing in his first stadium event, making it all the way to the Semi-Finals before losing to Chris Bergeron in Brutus. Rick Long in Bigfoot took down Rick Raab in American Guardian to setup the final round battle. The fans in attendance cheered when crowd favorite Long drove Bigfoot to the racing win in a high speed final round race, narrowly defeating Bergeron in Brutus!

Freestyle was total destruction with unique ramps, pyramids and obstacles (school buses, cube trucks, trailers), which makes the Monster Spectacular event reputation in Montreal so strong (More than 100,000 spectators each year in 2006 and 2007 – spring and fall crowds combined). Black Stallion was declared the victor after a unique backflip attempt, landing on his roof--the truck caught on fire but FD intervention was quick and effective, and Vaters emerged from the truck without injury. Click here to watch a video clip from Black Stallion's freestyle!!

Jim Koehler in Avenger finished second, while teammate Chris Bergeron in Brutus took third with a spectacular save. Rick Raab in American Guardian finished the night in the fourth position. Other highlights included a huge crowd favorite when Weapon 1 destroyed the tech and officials trailer after he was black flagged, and Scott Poirier in Anger Management brought some big air during his run. Kyle Chandler in Dominator did really well too for his first appearance in Montreal (a last minute replacement for Dan Patrick and Samson who cancelled due to mechanical failure).
Other great acts included Megasaurus, a demo derby, truck and tractor pulls, sport bikes motostunts, ATV drag races, Cra-Z-Boy, and Modified lawnmower races. The Montreal Monster Spectacular truly is the Canadian superbowl of motorsports!
This was the conclusion of an extensive 2007 tour for the Chris Arel Motorsports team. Many fans and media described last night's event as the most spectacular monster truck freestyle they had ever seen, with some calling it the Canadian World Finals!
President and CEO Chris Arel would like to thank all the fans, supporters and drivers for their support for the past years. We are looking forward to 2008 with even more dates that have been added to the upcoming tour. Teams and truck operators are welcome to send proposals to be a part of what Chris Arel Motorsports has planned for 2008.
Please visit www.MonsterSpectacular.com for our 2008 Event Schedule and Montreal pictures and video footage. T-Maxx, Iron Outlaw Take Wins In Klamath Falls Friday Night!!: (MLMT.com) Friday Night is in the books with eight of the great that MLMT has to offer fought it out in the Events Center! While Sean Duhon in Traxxas T-Maxx got his first win on the MLMT circuit, all eyes were on the brand new driver of the Iron Outlaw truck. Kreg Christensen was certainly on the ball posting fast times in the first round and semi-final rounds, but losing by mere inches in the final round. Daron Basl was fast qualifier in Nitro Hornet as the Oregon fans cheered on their fellow Oregon-Native!

Monster Truck Freestyle was a whole different story with solid runs coming from David Smith in Nitro Fish, an INCREDIBLE save from Madusa in Bigfoot, and a great run from Sean Duhon in T-Maxx. Kevin King in Sudden Impact went upside down as he nailed the van-stack and went vertical. The truck was straight up and down for nearly ten seconds before the truck tipped over. With all those incredible runs, it was the one point edge that went to Iron Outlaw and Kreg Christensen. Kreg was all over the place, with hitting the double jump and sending the truck in an akward sky-wheelie stance, some mean donuts, and awesome slap wheelies off the van stacks. Outlaw was deemed the winner.
That was only Friday night's action, join the Major League of Monster Trucks tonight and Sunday afternoon in Klamath Falls, OR!  Check out www.MLMT.com for tickets and event information!!  (11/03/07)

Tournament of Champions Concludes This Weekend!!:  TheMonsterBlog.com Tournament of Champions is winding to a close with only one weekend of competition left until our winners are declared! The T.O.C. was created as our way of saying thank you to all the drivers and fans who have supported The Monster Blog over the last couple years by giving each the chance to win some great prizes. The final event is being held tomorrow night in Montreal, Quebec!

- Driver Competition Down to a Two-Man Race

The Driver Competition has been intense for the entire eleven weeks to date, with over fifty drivers participating in T.O.C. events. Thirty-five drivers have scored performance points, and with only one more weekend of competition left, the title fight has been narrowed to two drivers.
One driver had stood above the rest for the duration of the Tournament leading into last weekend’s event in Nashville. It was no surprise to find that driver was none other than legendary Bigfoot driver Dan Runte. Starting the first weekend out at Clash of the Titans, Runte maintained his spot at the top of the heap through consistent performances including big racing wins in Salt Lake City, Dallas, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. Runte even picked up a freestyle win in Memphis, giving him a total of 127.5 points.

But entering last weekend right on Runte’s heels was Mark Hall and the Raminator team. Hall reached the 6-event baseline in style, winning the racing competition in Kentucky to move into second overall in the standings. Hall picked up big racing victories in Charlotte, Indianapolis, and Wildwood for an overall total of 110 points going into the Week 12 event in Nashville. Hall’s only chance to surpass Runte was to win the racing competition against a tough field of 18 of the best trucks in the country.
Runte exited in the second round of racing and failed to score any T.O.C. points at the Nashville event leaving the door open for the Raminator team. Hall marched his way to the final round in Raminator, taking on Doug Noelke in Tail Gator. After a bobble early in the race, Hall came back for an incredible final round victory in Nashville, earning enough points to surpass Runte with a final total of 130 points!
Now only one other driver has a chance at being the first ever Tournament of Champions winner. That driver sits in fourth place and is now in contention for the title after coming on strong late in the Tournament. That driver is Jim Koehler and his Avenger machine. Koehler scored a freestyle win early in the Tournament in Texas, but it wasn’t until Week 9 in Joliet that Avenger began making the move forward. In Joliet Koehler took the freestyle win and made it to the semi-finals in racing. In Memphis Avenger swept Saturday night, winning racing and freestyle to move into the fourth position overall in the Tournament.

Koehler had to take a win in Nashville to remain in contention, and he did just that, topping the competition and walking away with the freestyle victory. Koehler now has 95 points total and a chance at the title as he will be competing in the final T.O.C. event this weekend in Montreal. Sitting at a thirty-five point deficit from leader Mark Hall, Koehler faces a tall task at Olympic Stadium Saturday night. He must win freestyle and make it to the finals in racing to earn enough points to overtake Hall and Raminator.
With only one event remaining in the Tournament of Champions, Jim Koehler and the Avenger team are in control of their own destiny—they must make it to the finals in racing and win freestyle to be the Tournament of Champions winners. Mark Hall and the Raminator can now only wait, after doing their part last weekend in Nashville. Despite leading the way the entire competition, Dan Runte and the Bigfoot 4x4 team can only look ahead until next year’s T.O.C.

- Fan Competition Wide Open

Heading into the final event in Montreal this weekend, there are still eight fans in the running for a monster truck fan’s dream prize package!
The primary contenders are the top three fans however, with fan teams Rambo Race Team, West Coast Racing, and Dan’s The Man Racing separated by a mere 16 points. Steve Parry’s Rambo Ram Team sits in first place leading Pablo Gutierrez’s West Coast Racing by a margin of only 2 points!
From all accounts, the Fan Competition has been a huge success, drawing rave reviews from fans who have participated and great prizes from teams looking to give back to the fans. Best of luck to the Top 8 in this weekend’s final event!

- Even More Fan Prizes Added

As if the fan prize wasn’t BIG enough, three more organizations have kicked in gear for the Grand Prize! David Kranak and the gang over at MonsterTruckCollectors.com have donated a T-shirt, while Clive Featherby’s KC’s Fireworks from Australia has also gotten in on the action with a DVD and hat. Dan & Chris Patrick were also kind enough to throw in some Samson merchandise as well.

- Thank You To The Sponsors

The Tournament of Champions has been a hugely successful promotion and we sincerely thank everyone who has gotten involved. The sponsors who have stepped up to give back to the markets they serve included Vinyl Images, the Sudden Impact Racing Tire, and Midland Sportscards, all posting some great prizes for the winner of the Driver Competition. Lots of teams put up merchandise that will make a great Christmas present for the winner of our Fan Competition as well!

Los Trocas Mounstro En Juarez!!:  The WGAS Extreme Sports Spectacular rolled south of the border this past weekend as four monster trucks performed in freestyle action in Juarez, Mexico!!  Tony Canedo in Play'n 4 Keeps, Ronnie Sturges in Nasty Boy, and Sam Sturges in Unnamed & Untamed all ran strong, but it was Bill Payne in Rockstar who brought the house down with some great performances in front of the Juarez fans. Monster Blog Staff Member Lauren Z. Bonar was on hand for all the action, and more photos and video from the event will be coming your way soon. A huge thanks to the Sturges Motorsports team for inviting us to join them on the trip, and to all the drivers & teams for a great show. Stay tuned!!  (11/01/07)

Monster Truck Mayhem Photo Gallery!!:  The first annual Monster Truck Mayhem - Truck or Treat event was held at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, FL this past weekend!!  Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter swept the entire weekend, winning all three racing competitions, and both freestyle competitions as well. During a car jump by stuntman Brad Baldino at the 2PM Saturday event, the pyrotechnics caused the arena's fire sprinklers to activate flooding the arena floor with 4-5 inches of water. The rest of the 2PM show was cancelled, with the evening event rescheduled for Sunday. The incident certainly made for an eventful weekend, but kudos to the promoter and teams for putting on a great show. Other trucks in attendance included Bad News Travels Fast, Dominator, Easyriders, and Instigator. A huge thanks to Special Contributor Bryan Wagner for the photo gallery which can be seen by clicking the link below and for the recap!!  Thanks & Enjoy!!  (11/01/07)

Freedom Hall Monster Jam Photo Gallery!!:  The USHRA Monster Jam returned to historic Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY for Fright Night this past weekend!!  Our good friend Chris Parrish was on hand for all the action Friday night as Grave Digger, Maximum Destruction, El Toro Loco, Predator, and Team Suzuki competed in wheelie, racing, donut, and freestyle contests.  Pablo Huffaker started the evening off by winning the wheelie contest in Grave Digger, but was eliminated in the first round of the racing competition. El Toro Loco went on to win the racing competition over Andy Slifko in Eradicator, and it was Mike Wine in Monster Mutt winning the donut contest. Freestyle would see good runs from all the drivers, but in the end it was Neil Elliot in Maximum Destruction tying Pablo Huffaker for the top spot, both with perfect scores of 30. Then it was up to the crowd to decide the winner, and Grave Digger was crowned the freestyle champ!!  A huge thanks to Chris Parrish for the great photos which can now be seen in the Fan Photo Gallery by clicking the link below!!  (11/01/07)
