Tulsa, OK Southern Monster Truck Showdown Coverage!!:  TMB spent this past weekend hanging with the Southern Monster Truck Showdown crew as they teamed up with the Tulsa Motocross Park to bring in monster trucks for the very first time. Martial Law, Heart Breaker, Desperado, Outtacontrol and Cyborg would compete in wheelie, racing and freestyle contests each day. Kaila Savage showed that she is adapting great to her new ride, winning 5 of 6 competitions on the weekend, with only Drew Haygood in Desperado able to break the sweep as he picked up the Saturday racing victory.

In addition to the monster truck action, our great friends with the Midwest Tuff Trucks crew were on hand for some of the wildest tuff truck action we've ever seen. The trucks competed on the motocross course which featured a huge double jump that resulted in some huge air. Matt Schumacher in Iron Horse picked up the big win Saturday night while the rookie driver Drew Darnell cruised to victory on a carnage filled Sunday afternoon. Congrats to both of those guys on their wins and a thanks to all of them for putting on a great show this weekend.

A big thanks to the SMTS crew and the Tulsa MX Park staff for all their hospitality this weekend. TMB's Ross Z. Bonar split the weekend taking photos and video and we've put together photo galleries and a highlight video of all the action from the events. Ms. BIGFOOT, Retro-Racer Set to Debut in Springfield This Weekend!!: (Hazelwood, MO) Team BIGFOOT will take yet another huge step forward this weekend in commemorating their 35th anniversary by debuting the new “MS BIGFOOT” and “Retro BIGFOOT” monster trucks at the 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals being held in Springfield, MO. “New recruit” Amber Walker will strap in behind the wheel of MS BIGFOOT and make her first appearance driving in front of a crowd in over three years, during what is sure to be an exciting weekend of monster truck action that will kick off the 2010 Jamboree Nationals points chase.

Amber will begin her driving career for Team BIGFOOT by campaigning the beautifully painted MS BIGFOOT body atop the BIGFOOT #11 chassis, a task for which she is VERY excited! “The original MS BIGFOOT was such an awesome truck, and it marked the first time women really made their mark in this sport,” said Walker. “To be able to renew that tradition and to give all the girls in the crowd a BIGFOOT of their own to root for is going to be great!” Veteran BIGFOOT #11 driver Jerry Dalton will serve as Amber’s crew chief for the duration of the weekend.
The Springfield 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals will feature three rounds of Monster Truck Thunder Drags® over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Amber and her teammate Dan Runte in the 35th Anniversary “Retro” BIGFOOT #16 will compete against a stacked field of trucks, including high horsepower machines like Avenger and Raminator. In addition to the great racing and freestyle action, Amber and MS BIGFOOT will be on display on Friday, greeting fans and getting the greater Springfield area excited for the weekend ahead! Amber and Dan will be signing autographs at the BIGFOOT Official Licensed Merchandise trailer over the course of the weekend as well.
Speaking of Dan, he will have his plate as full as anyone’s in Springfield. Team BIGFOOT’s senior driver, who holds an impressive eight national championships and 1 Guinness World Record, knows the Springfield track well; he also knows how much of a role Mother Nature can play in the outcome of the weekend’s racing events. In addition to debuting a new “retro” look for his BIGFOOT #16 truck (a 1970’s F-250 body painted in the classic all-blue BIGFOOT style), Runte will also be serving as a mentor to Amber Walker, sharing insights into driving a BIGFOOT truck and helping her overcome her three year hiatus from driving!! Will the two end up meeting each other in the monster truck racing finals? “Only time will tell,” said Runte. “But I am optimistic that we’ll be able to have her up to speed pretty quick. She’s got a great attitude, a great truck underneath her, and a great team standing behind her.”
When asked to give his thoughts on the weekend as a whole, Runte was his usual analytical yet optimistic self: “Springfield is tough every year because of the mixed racing surface, part dirt and part asphalt. And, if that wasn’t enough, it always seems to rain. So we’ll go in there with the best set-up we can cook up, and hope that we picked the right combination of tire cut, engine tune-up, and gearing.” Runte’s crew chief and engine mastermind John Peterson added that “The competition is going to be tough and won’t cut us any slack, and we sure aren’t going to cut them any either.”
Fans attending the event will definitely want to bring their cameras, not just to take photos of two brand new looks for the BIGFOOT Team, but to get their photos taken with the trucks and their drivers, one of the more fan-friendly aspects of the Jamboree Nationals. A ton of exciting new merchandise will be available as well, including a line of MS BIGFOOT ladies-wear featuring pink and powder-blue hats and fitted shirts, and black and pink can cozies!! The new BIGFOOT 35th Anniversary t-shirt featuring classic BIGFOOT trucks from over the years will also be available, and fans can have both Dan and Amber sign their merchandise!
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have Amber on-board not only as the newest driver on our roster, but also as our first female racer in over two decades,” said BIGFOOT president Ann Trent, daughter of BIGFOOT founder/owner Bob Chandler. “So many of Amber’s new teammates will be coming to Springfield to help make her feel welcome, and we certainly look forward to all the great Missouri fans cheering her on as well!”

Torgerson Motorsports Announces Return of Rolling Thunder Motorsports Tour!!:  After five years away, TMB has learned that Torgerson Motorsports is bringing back the Rolling Thunder Motorsports Tour for 2010 and beyond. Owner Stanley Torgerson began promoting events in 1979 and continued all the way through 2005, but now is bringing the company back and returning to full time promotion.
For Torgerson, the time off was very welcome but returning to promoting events is very exciting. “I needed a little break after 27 years as the work was starting to feel too much like a job,” said Torgerson. “But after these last 5 years away, I wanted to get back in the game and we’re very excited about our upcoming plans.”
According to Torgerson, that long term plan includes growing the company back to their once busy schedule of holding events in nearly 52 venues a year. That begins in 2010 as there are plans for 8-10 events over the summer and fall seasons, with a full indoor schedule being planned out for the winter.
The first event back for Torgerson Motorsports is May 14th and 15th as the Rolling Thunder Motorsports Tour heads to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with Gun Slinger, Brute Force, Bearfoot, Crashmaster and Ice competing at Myrtle Beach Raceway. The event will also feature a demolition derby and freestyle motocross.
Further information including announcement of scheduled events and much more is forthcoming, with a website launch scheduled in the next few weeks. TMB thanks Stanley Torgerson for sharing this exciting news with us and welcomes Torgerson Motorsports back to the monster truck industry. (04/28/10)

Larry Swim Captures Second Consecutive CFP Title!!: (Hazelwood, MO) After an intense indoor racing season that lasted from January through April and stretched across 18 different states, Larry Swim and his BIGFOOT® Bad Boy II truck (BIGFOOT #14) have been declared the 2010 Checkered Flag Productions Bad Boys of Racing champions!
Swim entered the final event of the 2010 CFP, held at the ISU Holt Arena in Pocatello, ID, with a strong but not invincible points lead. Despite a successful winter season chock full of wins in just about every category imaginable, Swim would have to fight to the bitter end in Pocatello to emerge victorious, both on the event level and the coveted championship level.

After a crowd-pleasing run in the wheelie contest, Swim's night would take a frustrating turn as he was narrowly upset in the first round of racing by Devin Jones in Barbarian. Due to the fact that the event was a double-elimination format, each of the eight trucks in the field would return in round 2 to face different opponents. Swim was not about to let the championship slip through his fingers, and promptly defeated the ever-capable Mike Hawkins in Equalizer in the second round of competition. Swim would have to lean on his BIGFOOT machine hard in the semi-finals to pull out a win, as he once again squared off against Devin Jones in Barbarian. The outcome would not be the same as it had been earlier in the night, as Swim would handily defeat Jones and move on to the finals. Serving as his opponent in the finals would be none other than Darren Migues and Bounty Hunter. As ruthless of an opponent as any, Migues had been enjoying a great deal of success on the Chicago-style race track. Migues' and his machine would not be enough to overcome the determination of Swim and his legendary BIGFOOT truck however, as Swim would soar across the finish line first, earning his second racing win in Pocatello in as many years.
Swim and the BIGFOOT Bad Boy would not have much time to catch their breath before it was time to hit the track again for monster truck freestyle. Early into his run, which was already punctuated by blistering momentum and big air, the 572ci powerplant resting between the frame rails of Swim's BIGFOOT machine suffered a catastrophic timing belt failure, cutting off power to the hopeful champion far earlier than he had intended.
As freestyle came to a close, the CFP officials tallied up the points earnings for all of the trucks, while the teams, drivers, and fans sat rather impatiently nearby. It was finally announced that Swim had amassed enough points to remain atop the heap, making him the CFP champion once again!
"I'm pretty much out of words at this point," said an exuberant Swim immediately following the championship ceremony held on-track. "It has been such a long season to get to this point, and there was no way I was going to let this one get away from me. I can't say enough for John and Bryan and everyone back at the shop that have kept me running all winter long, [BIGFOOT owner/creator] Bob Chandler and his whole family for giving me the chance to drive the best trucks around, and of course my wife Susan for sticking with me through all the long trips and late nights away from home. This is just awesome!" Thanks to Sky Hartley, one time BIGFOOT driver, for helping to crew for Larry during this event. Your help is much appreciated.

SFI Foundation Announces Decertification of Impact Racing Products: (Poway, CA) Yesterday, SFI advised the racing community that Impact Racing suits bearing 3.2A/5 certifications “made prior to 2009 have been constructed with non-compliant materials that, in SFI’s judgment, pose a safety risk to users of those suits.” Impact responded by attacking SFI certification programs (although Impact and the other major equipment manufacturers have agreed to and participated in the development of these well-established programs); by claiming it could not get a fair hearing of the decertification appeal (although Impact asked for and received an expedited appeal procedure); and by claiming that “SFI’s actions have caused racers unnecessarily to question their safety.” It is this last point that requires a very specific response.
Scientific testing just conducted on 2008 Impact 3.2A/5 suits has determined that the thread melts away in a fire. This causes the fabric to come apart since there is no longer thread to hold the suit together. SFI believes this poses a significant safety risk to the racer involved in a fire. Rather than being constructed with Nomex (heat resistant) thread, the suits were constructed with some sort of unknown non-compliant thread that melts during heat testing. This thread failure is contrary to the SFI specifications that Impact agreed to follow.
The reason that this failure was not discovered sooner is that Impact provided SFI with Nomex thread samples in order to get their products tested and certified initially. Manufacturers are only supposed to provide samples of the actual materials to be used in their products. It appears that Impact failed to comply with this procedure regarding thread. Finally, one suit tested failed to have the proper thermal protective properties in the material itself. Again, such a failure poses a significant safety risk. This safety failure by Impact is consistent with a pattern of non-compliance:
1. Last year, SFI discovered that Impact SFI 3.2A/15 and SFI 3.2A/20 rated fire suits produced in 2007 and 2008 were also made with thread that melted during testing. In addition, these suits were often poorly constructed, without sufficient protective layers of Nomex material. SFI ordered the immediate decertification and recall of these potentially dangerous products.
2. Last year, SFI discovered that Impact SFI 3.3/15 and SFI 3.3/20 boots produced in 2008 were defective. Their materials failed heat resistant testing. SFI ordered the immediate decertification and recall of these potentially dangerous products.
3. Hans Performance Products discovered last year that Impact deliberately manufactured and sold counterfeit Hans helmet clips and attached them into the helmets of unsuspecting customers. These foreign made knock-offs were inscribed with the “SFI 38.1” inscription. Impact has never participated in this program. These counterfeiting activities were occurring at the same time that Impact was manufacturing counterfeit SFI conformance labels and patches. Hans filed suit against Impact in federal court last year in Atlanta. SFI intervened and joined in the suit against Impact. That suit is pending.
4. In 2004, SFI discovered that Impact gloves bearing SFI 3.3/20 specifications were made of material that was too light and failed heat resistance testing. SFI ordered their decertification and recall.
Impact’s press release claims that there “have been no burns or other injuries reported to Impact by any racer wearing Impact Race Products since its inception.” If this is true, the avoidance of injuries is due in large part to the policing of Impact products by SFI.
SFI was heartened when Impact finally admitted its own fault for previously making non-compliant gloves, boots, suits and helmet clips and acted to address those problems. SFI holds out the hope of a similar outcome regarding its pre-2009 3.2A, 3.3, 16.1 and 16.5 products, and that it will act in the best interests of the racing community without further prodding by SFI. However, admission of their fault will not change the fact that these products remain decertified and that Impact’s participation in all SFI programs will end June 22, 2010. (04/26/10)

We are happy to have the opportunity to support one of our own, us lobster guys have gotta stick together!”
For Bottom Feeder Motorsports team owner Greg Winchenbach, the opportunity to promote a fellow Maine business is exciting.

Dan Runte, BIGFOOT Return to Firebird Raceway This Weekend!!: (Chandler, AZ) When people think of the BIGFOOT team of monster trucks, minds quickly turn to awesome power, insane wheelies, ravaged cars, crazy air and general monster truck mayhem.
But when discussing the BIGFOOT #16 driven by Dan Runte, another factor must be considered – pure speed! On April 24-25th, Runte will bring that combination of speed and raw power to Firebird International Raceway during the 2010 NAPA Auto Parts Monster Truck Nationals.

Runte, who calls Firebird International Raceway one of his three favorite tracks to perform on, recently set a new world monster truck land speed record during a drag race against the Firestone Snake Bite on Oct. 25th at the Texas MotorPlex in Enis, Texas. Runte and BIGFOOT eclipsed the record by running an 8.261 at 84.49 mph!
Considered “…the most daring driver” on the BIGFOOT team, Runte holds three other Monster Truck Guinness World Records, including “Longest ramp jump in a monster truck” at 202’ long.
Runte and BIGFOOT will have a couple of fast competitors gunning for them during the NAPA Auto Parts Monster Truck Nationals, including The Bounty Hunter, driven by Jim Creten, and Avenger, driven by Jim Koehler. Both monster trucks advanced to the second round of the Monster Jam World Finals racing competition this past March in Las Vegas, downing Monster Mutt and Madusa respectively to reach the second round.
Koehler, who impressed Firebird fans with his daring performances last year, was also named Stadium Freestyler of the Year by Monster Jam.
BIGFOOT, Bounty Hunter and Avenger lead a talented field into the NAPA Auto Parts Monster Truck Nationals, but motor sports fans would be mistaken if they believed monster trucks were the only attractions coming to Firebird this April!
The two-day event may literally have something for everyone including jet car racing, drag racing, off-road racing, a unique midway, a show-and-shine and a Party in the Pits on both days, where fans can get autographs and pictures with the drivers from their favorite truck.
The big Saturday night show also will get fans ready for summer thanks to a jaw-dropping fireworks display. To purchase tickets on-line, or to learn more, visit www.FirebirdRaceway.com. Information and tickets are also available by calling 602-268-0200. (04/23/10)

Flame Motorsports Press Release!!: (The Woodlands, TX) With our first show after the World Finals, where else would you want to go but sunny California? Daron has been out since early March or was it late February, I am sure he could tell you. Any how he has been out a while and after Vegas he headed back over to our home away from home the Obsession shop. We had quite a bit of work to do to the trucks since our last show and Daron got right to it. King Krunch had chassis damage and El Matador had front end damage. Daron worked his tail off and got both trucks ready for Fresno. The weekend went great with our team trucks performing very well. Krunch was one of the fastest trucks there, with El Matador and Obsession coming in right behind. All the trucks did great freestyles at all three shows as well as the wheelie and racing competition. We were all in the top of the field all weekend and pulled away numerous wins through out the weekend.
We also have a new addition to the team Gary “The Rhinestone Cowboy” Schott. He started with us in Fresno and we look forward to what we can do together. Gary took on the Crew Chief position and who knows what else we might have in store for the fans. Gary has a very good work ethic and a drive to keep the trucks at there best. Oh and when you see him ask him about his Rhinestone status!!! He loves to tell the story.
The team is off to Barksdale AFB for a display this weekend and then we head up to Monroe, WA for the start of our summer tour. We hope to see you out there, stop by and say hello to the guys. Also drop in on our sponsors from time to time: Awesome Racewear, Spectro Oils, Fiesta Mart, Hooker Harness, EZ-Router, Hughes Performance, Houston Sign, Tx-7, Smart Tool, NGK, MSD, EZ-UP and Dana Spicer. Without them we could not entertain the crowds and do what we love to do.

Monster Spectacular Blasts Off 2010 In Montreal!!: (Montreal, Quebec) “Monster truck fans, this is ground control. All systems are go. Strap yourself in and hold on tight. We are ready for lift off. Five, four, three, two, one. We have ignition…BLAST OFF!!”
That could have easily been the opening for Monster Spectacular in Montreal this past weekend. Instead a spectacular video and fireworks display fired up 50,000 fans in the Olympic Stadium. Actually, the fans didn’t need much firing up fired up – because the biggest monster truck and motorsports entertainment show in Canada was about to begin.

The show began with one more example of Chris Arel creativity. Typically the first monster truck event is a wheelie contest. But this time things got really big - as in big air. It was a monster truck long jump contest. The monsters hit a custom built ramp with each ramp track just wide enough to fit the terra tires. The driver had to show driving skill in hitting the ramp accurately and fearlessness in hitting the throttle. It truly was “blast off” as they headed into orbit, jumping well over 80 feet in distance. The truck everyone was gunning for used all of the 1800 horsepower Bounty Hunter had to give to win with a monster long jump of 93 feet.
Monster racing saw the destruction dozen paired off for the six qualifier races on the Chicago style oval course with the truck racing in opposite directions. First up was Extreme Racing Team truck Scarlet Bandit, piloted by an unknown driver from Ottawa named Joenette Miller. A ruggedly built young lady, judging by the breadth of her shoulders straining the fire suit, she put up a man-sized struggle against her equally mysterious opponent, but to no avail. The masked man from Denver Colorado, Colt Cobra, piloted Snake Bite to a win.
Black Stallion had not competed in Montreal for over a year. In the meantime, driver/owner Mike Vaters had received a new nickname – at least judging by the images appearing in the opening video. The sequence featured a photo of Mike’s face… well, actually only the right half of Mike’s face. The left half was replaced with an image of the ultimate space bad guy, Darth Vader. Suddenly Mike Vaters had been dubbed Darth Vaters, the potential spoiler to a Bounty Hunter win. He began on a winning note, defeating Kyle Chandler in Dominator to advance in the brackets.
Jimmy Creten continued his own winning ways, piloting Bounty Hunter to a win over Brutus – driven by Steve Koehler, the younger brother of Scream Team star Jim Koehler. The elder Koehler used Avenger like a weapon to defeat highly unpopular driver Paul Strong in Marital Law. It should be noted that Paul intentionally created his “heel” status with the fans by plastering his truck with Washington Capitals decals. The local professional hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens, was playing the Capitals that night in the second game of the first round of the NHL playoffs.
The final qualifying brackets saw a most unique monster truck do battle with a young up and comer who stepped up to star status later that evening. CrushStation is the world’s only lobster themed monster truck, complete with beady black eyes and massive claws. Driver Greg Winchenback spent 10 years designing and building the monster; including having the body designed by Glen Claybourne who does art work for horror author Stephen King. The name is a play on words given that monsters crush cars; and CurshStation crushed a victory out over Joe Sylvester’s Bad Habit. As well, another newcomer Razin’ Kane suffered a defeat thanks to Trey Meyers and Iron Warrior to complete the qualifiers.
In Quarter Finals Snake Bite defeat Black Stallion, Bounty Hunter defeat Avenger, Iron Warrior Crushstation defeat Iron Warrior. Semi finals were intense and fast – Bounty Hunter defeat Snake Bite, and fastest looser of round one Scarlet Bandit came back to race Crushstation. The flying lobster lost and lost control in the last sprint and crossed the track sideways almost smashing into a bus. Bounty Hunter won the final race.

When all was said and done, Bounty Hunter had won two monster truck competitions in a row. Freestyle featured the famous and unique Monster Spectacular format of the variable clock. Somewhere between two and four minutes, the red light comes on. As always, the key to an impressive freestyle is momentum, aggression and hitting every obstacle while filling the clock. And what a selection of obstacles there was. A double school bus stack with car stacks around it that allowed monsters to hit it from every angle. Two cube van stacks and multiple traditional van stacks. Even the racing lane car stacks were raised up 3 feet on platforms of dirt. As well, a Super Motar feel was created with lots of bare concrete floor left open for cyclone donuts and flat track slides.
Razin’ Kane struggled with mechanical difficulties, busting a drive shaft on the first jump. Iron Warrior put in a solid run. Martial Law seemed to attract bad karma with his declaration of being a Washington Capitals fan in the heart of Montreal, as he knocked the blower off the engine early in his run and had to cut it short. Kyle Chandler had to snuff an engine fire in Dominator by using his fire suit jacket. CrushStation lived up to its name, smashing every car in its path.

But the first new superstar of the Monster Spectacular season was created when Bad Habit hit the track. An amazing series of freestyle moves that included seriously huge air, sky wheelies and long jumps. The fans were on their feet when Joe Sylvester rolled the truck over after almost throttling out a save. During an on track interview as the track crew worked to run Bad Habit rubber side down, the muscular Italian driver expressed his disappointment in the run, saying that wasn’t the way to end it. He begged Arel to let him back in the truck and run to the red. Chris Arel is a former driver and a fan at heart; he knew that this was a special moment. As soon as the truck was right side up, the wild man from Ohio climbed back in the 2010 Cadillac and put the finishing touches on a run that makes Bad Habit a good habit to have in monster truck freestyle.
Snake Bite was the next truck to really light up the fans. Pulling an amazing array of wheelies, the masked man even dragged the back bar in a twelve o’clock wheelie spark fest to create his own pyro show. Tearing the back half of the body off on his final wheelie had 50,000 fans holding two fingers out in the symbol of the Snake Bite front fangs.

Scarlet Bandit showed that girl power was a power to be reckoned with and Avenger showed why Jim Koehler is called Mr. Excitement. Former World Freestyle Champion Koehler ran the green demon so hard that smoke was pouring out of the back of Avenger as he finished his full four minute run. Another example of a driver making the ultimate sacrifice for what really matters in monster trucks – the fans.
There was an excitement building for the final two trucks as expectations were high. Would Mike Vaters really become Darth Vaters and spoil a perfect night for Jimmy Creten and Bounty Hunter?  Black Stallion galloped onto the track like a herd of wild horses. The aggressive start was the beginning of what promised to be a fantastic freestyle by the 30 year veteran. But the Stallion came up lame too quickly, knocking a front tire off the bead. Despite the flat tire, Vaters continued his run for as long as he could and ended with a cyclone donut that lifted his wounded front wheel off the ground.

Jimmy Creten could have coasted through freestyle. The former World Freestyle Champion could have taken it easy and rode his reputation to victory. But that would not be acceptable to Creten, who literally tore the tack to pieces. Bounty Hunter assertively hit every obstacle with smooth as silk turns. Big air, wheelies donuts - you name a monster truck freestyle move and Bounty Hunter delivered it. Creten ended his run parked on top of the double bus stack to the deafening cheers of the fans. While the other drivers rode in golf carts to wave to the fans, Creten walked the track alone, looking every fan in the eye as if to ingrain his motto, “You can run, but you can’t hide”.

Sean Duhon, Eric Tack Take Wins at Historic Return to the Silverdome!!: An incredible, historic night is in the books as monster trucks returned to one of the most significant venues in monster truck history, the Pontiac Silverdome with Domination In The Dome!!  A huge sixteen truck lineup would compete in racing and freestyle events while Larry Quick would attempt to become the first driver ever to complete a double backflip. BIGFOOT would return to the place where a simple car crush in front of over 70,000 people 28 years ago effectively started the monster truck craze. Truck names that used to be regulars at the Silverdome like Excaliber, Michigan Ice Monster and Predator returned while drivers who had performed at this great building so many years ago like Allen Pezo and Bobby Holman were back as well. An what better to make the experience truly one of a kind, then the re-debut of the newly restored Predator 1 performing an old school car crush.

As teams began arriving and the FMG Events crew worked on the track, the atmosphere was electric and you could tell just from the looks on everyone's faces that this wasn't just any event. While the Silverdome itself did still show signs of having been dormant for nearly five years, to monster truck people who understood the history it represents, it had never looked better. As showtime neared and doors opened for the pit party, you could see the looks of excitement on many fans faces, as they returned to a building they had been to so many times before, reliving old memories and ready to start making new ones.
For the sixteen truck racing bracket, drivers would contend on a tough Chicago-style race course that featured wide sweeping turns but very narrow race lanes. With freestyle stacks on either side of the racing cars, drivers would have to line up properly or risk a collision that could send them upside down. The first round of racing would see some close racing and it wouldn't take long for the tough course to claim a competitor. That competitor was none other than Allen Pezo as he hit the cars crooked, making contact with a bus stack and flipping Predator, eliminating him from contention. Big names like Eric Tack, Jon Zimmer, Bobby Holman and Sean Duhon looked strong and moved on to round two.

Round two would see huge match-ups as Eric Tack in Bigfoot was paired up against Jon Zimmer in Excaliber while Bobby Holman's Lucas Oil Stabilizer met Sean Duhon in Sudden Impact. Tack prevailed in a thrilling race while Duhon made easy work of Holman. Also moving on would be a strong running Jocelyn Perrin in High Maintenance and Dale Mitchell in Lone Eagle.

The final four paired with the heavy hitters going head to head and the two surprises getting a chance to race for a spot in the finals. In the closest race of the night, Sean Duhon ended Bigfoot's hopes of winning racing in their return to the Silverdome, defeating Tack by no more than a few feet at the line. In another close race, Jocelyn Perrin continued to impress with a strong run to defeat Dale Mitchell.
In pre-show interviews, Duhon and Perrin were both drivers who were obviously truly excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this event and both wanted this win badly. In a great race where both drivers ran strong, it was Sean Duhon flying the TMB flag on Sudden Impact to one of the biggest wins of his career, the Domination In The Dome racing victory!

Before freestyle began, fans were treated to some incredible exhibitions. Larry Quick made the attempt in Ghost Ryder to become the first driver to successfully complete a double backflip. It was not to be on this night, as Quick nailed a picture perfect single backflip but was unable to get a quick enough rotation to bring it around again. Nonetheless, the Silverdome fans erupted at the still amazing site of seeing a monster truck complete a backflip.

Old school monster truck fans were treated to the an amazing experience as Allen Pezo fired up the newly restored Predator I machine and paid tribute to the roots of the sport, crushing cars in an awesome throwback car crush. A TMB camera rode along for this historic exhibition and that footage alone will make this TMB TV a must see. Special thanks to Allen Pezo for allowing us to ride along with him for this special occasion.

With Sean Duhon being the privileged driver to have claimed one of the special trophies, the other drivers were even more fired up for one more chance to etch their name into the history books as it was time to begin freestyle. Over the years when Monster Jam came to the Silverdome, the largest stack typically included would be a large box van stack. FMG Events pulled out all the stops, with two massive bus stacks and the huge FMX hill in the center for the monsters to tackle. The course would end up being two intimidating for some, but for others it was just what they needed to go big and get wild.
The competition started off with opening runs from Pouncer and Ice before two-time Monster Nationals Freestyle Champ Jocelyn Perrin rolled to the track. After a great racing performance, she was ready to show the fans a classic High Maintenance freestyle, but an unlucky bounce took the truck over after only one hit.

In a surprising twist, the next truck to fire up was none other than Jon Zimmer and Excaliber and he wasted no time setting the bar just about as high as it can get. Huge air, ridiculous momentum, wild cyclones and an incredible rollover to finish would get Jon a 28 score from the judges.

That would be a tough run to follow but Jeremy Perry in Crashmaster turned in a solid run with a couple nice slap wheelies. The new retro Michigan Ice Monster had a solid debut going, but an unlucky bounce for Chris Ryan locked up a rear tire ending his run early. Then Ben Winslow in Ground Pounder rolled out and turned in one of the best performances of his career, with huge air, a massive slap wheelie and a great save to take over second place.

After fairly solid performances from Lone Eagle, Prowler, Lucas Oil Stabilizer and Anger Management, the energy got cranked up with a great run from Allen Pezo in Predator. After rolling it over in racing, Allen pulled out all the stops in freestyle with one of the best runs yet. The judges awarded a score of 28 putting Pezo into a tie for the lead with Zimmer.

Jerry Perry in Brute Force followed with a strong run that featured donuts, big air and a wild slap wheelie into a rollover while Sean Duhon in Sudden Impact also got the crowd on their feet with an amazing crossthread over the double bus stack. Duhon's run would be good enough to take third overall. But then it was time for the American Guardian and Rick Raab. Raab held nothing back, going just as big as everyone else and being the first driver to launch it off the huge center FMX hill. Raab's run was easily a contender for the win, but the judges would only throw up a 26 as he took over third place.

Only one truck left to run and it was none other than the returning legend, as Eric Tack had one more chance to try and put Bigfoot back on top at the Silverdome. Tack showed absolutely no rust after a long time off from driving, executing some amazing moves with picture perfect precision. A viciously hard on the driver landing after launching off the FMX hill would force Tack to stop his run there, just barely short of the two minute mark. After amazing runs from Zimmer and Pezo, the judges had a tough decision to mark - was it enough to win? The judges threw up the scores and it turned out they thought it was as Tack received a 29, giving Bigfoot the win by one point!

What an incredible night it was in Pontiac, Michigan. While the new owners of the building have some work to do to get the venue back into top level shape, this was a solid first event back and we were happy to have been there for it. A huge congratulations to Sean Duhon and Eric Tack on their big wins and a thanks to all the drivers and teams for their efforts. A very special thank you to Brian Sharenow and everyone with FMG Events for their hospitality to TheMonsterBlog.com this weekend.

Swim, Payne Win In Pocatello, Swim Repeats as 2010 CFP Champion!!: (CFP Press Release) Saturday night, April 17, the stars were out and the gloves came off in the final event for Checkered Flag Productions’ 2010 Grand National Championship. With 5 drivers contending for the tour championship the stakes were high as was the excitement level. A sold out crowd of 11,800 saw one of the most electric shows in Checkered Flag Productions history, and one of the greatest motorsports events ever in the state of Idaho.
The first event on tap for the evening was the Wheelie Contest which also served as qualifying for the racing match up. Each truck took to the floor one at a time, for 1 wheelie attempt which was scored by 6 judges on a 1-10 scale. Several trucks came out and had great wheelies and slap wheelies, including Idaho’s own BJ Johnson who had a terrific slap wheelie in Jurassic Attack for a score of 48 which tied for 2nd with Bigfoot Bad Boy. Donald Epidendio the driver of California Kid managed to “walk” his truck across the floor on the back tires for a 44 and 4th place finish, but none of these wheelies were enough to get the win. In what might be referenced as a backflip attempt, Bill Payne in Rock Star came out and took on the van stack sideways and launched the truck upwards and sideways coming down on the truck’s side and eventually rolling over. The judges scored it a 58 out of 60 and no other effort could match that performance.
Up next for the night’s event was Monster Truck racing. 8 trucks went to battle on a “Chicago Style” oval racing course that spanned the entire floor and allowed the trucks to use their big power. Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy had a surprising loss in round 1 against Devin Jones Barbarian, but came through the double elimination style event to end up in the final round against Darren Migues and Bounty Hunter. The trucks lined up on opposite sides of the arena and mashed the gas when the light turned green. The two trucks ran neck and neck for the entire race, but Swim managed to edge out Migues and Bigfoot took home the racing title. Migues took 2nd in racing, Jones’ Barbarian took 3rd and Isaiah Morales’ Hot Tamale took 4th in racing. Coming in 5th was Mike Hawkins Equalizer, with Jurassic Attack in 6th, Rock Star in 7th, and California Kid in 8th.
Following some quick track prep it was time for the crowd favorite Freestyle event. Don Frankish in Maniac and Isaiah Morales in Hot Tamale were the first two trucks on the floor. Frankish filled 90 seconds with a fast paced run and some nice air, and Morales got some big air over the school bus double, much to the crowds delight. Bounty Hunter came out in the 3rd spot, and ran for over 3 minutes with some monster air over the school bus double, as well as some nice donuts and big air off the car and van stacks. Migues was rewarded by the judges with a score of 58, one that would be tough to beat.
After performances from California Kid, Equalizer and Barbarian the spot light fell on Bill Payne and Rock Star. While Payne had a short run, he had the most electric moments of the night including a huge jump which caused the truck to roll over and land on all 4 wheels, which was then followed by yet another backflip attempt in between the school buses. The crowd went absolutely crazy and Payne was rewarded with a perfect 60 by the judges. That put him in first and left only 2 trucks to run.
The next truck on the floor was Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy, Swim came out with strong momentum and big air including a huge jump over the school buses, but as he was flooring it over one of the racing lanes the truck shut down. The problem was diagnosed as a blown engine and Swim’s run was over early resulting in a low score. Last onto the floor was local hot shoe BJ Johnson who piloted Jurassic Attack to a strong 90 second run that included some nice air and another well executed slap wheelie. The run was not enough to knock Payne out of the top spot however, and Bill Payne was declared the freestyle winner.
After some points calculating and tallying, the Tour Championship ceremony was ready. Bringing home 5th place, was Darren Migues in Bounty Hunter. In 4th was Hot Tamale driven by Isaiah Morales. 3rd place was taken by Devin Jones and Barbarian. Then it came down to the final 2. Despite his strong showing in wheelie and freestyle, Bill Payne did not score enough points to jump over Larry Swim and Bigfoot. For the 2nd year in a row Rock Star was the runner-up to Grand National Champion “Leadfoot” Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy. Larry’s strong lead going into Pocatello, and his win in racing clinched his 2nd straight title.
Congratulations to Team Bigfoot and to Larry Swim on another outstanding season. Swim managed to win nearly 50% of the events he entered, and his strong domination of racing allowed him to lock up another championship. With an unprecedented back-to-back championship effort, we can only imagine what Swim and Bigfoot will have cooked up for the next Winter Nationals tour!

The points race is incredibly close this year, Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy carry a narrow lead over Bill Payne and Rock Star – these two have been battling back and forth all season in a war of Big Air, Big Horsepower, and Big Statements. To say that a rivalry is developing between these 2 camps would be a complete understatement. It all comes down to the final event in Pocatello to decide the title and there are a few more guys within striking distance, this isn’t just a 2 person dance! Sitting 3rd in points is The Barbarian driven by Devin Jones, followed closely by Isaiah Morales in Hot Tamale and Darren Migues in Bounty Hunter.

With double points on the line, all 5 of these guys have a mathematical shot at the Championship – but the line up doesn’t stop there!
The line up of trucks for this event is beyond awesome! 9 of the top trucks in the world will be doing battle for double points in the Wheelie Contest, Racing and Freestyle. Come see the following trucks in action:

- Bounty Hunter driven by Darren Migues

- Equalizer driven by Mike Hawkins
- California Kid driven by Donald Epidendio

These trucks will be doing battle in side by side racing on a big course that will really allow these guys to break out the big horsepower in the dome! Then, hold on for the wildest Freestyle Event in Checkered Flag Productions’ history! For the first time ever, by anyone – we’re stacking 2 buses on top of each other! On one side will be a dirt launch ramp, on the other side will be a stairway of cars called a step-up!      Also on tap this year is the return of a crowd favorite! We’re bringing Tuff Trucks back to Pocatello for the first time in a few years! Tuff Trucks are always a crowd favorite for their wild action and big air. When the Tuff Trucks take to the course, you never know what’s going to happen – but you know it will be wild and crazy! If you’ve got it to run – we want you to come out and run with us! Cash and trophies will be given to the top 3 finishers.
Last but certainly not least a full-sized car Hot Rod Demolition Derby will be held as well. The first 20 local competitors to sign up will be involved in a dirt kicking, hard hitting demolition derby! King Krunch Tailgate Benefit Auction!!:  (The Woodlands, TX) This year, as is every year, it was a great honor for Flame Motorsports to be included in the World Finals lineup. While some might question why we were in attendance, we know of one little guy that was very glad we came. His name was Zack. He is 6 years old and from the San Diego area. David chose Zack to help him out pulling his qualifying number. As drivers and older fans we sometimes loose the bigger picture. We get caught up in this junk or that junk, what he did or didn’t do to be at a certain place. Zack didn’t care if we came in first or last in every event we performed at this year. All he wanted to do was be by his favorite driver/drivers.

David Smith commented, “It is a ton of responsibility for us as drivers to be in the position we are in. Most of us got into the sport because we loved tearing stuff up as kids. We can sometimes forget what it was like to be a child looking up to our hero’s. Zack helped me see things through his eyes; while we as adults get caught up in the business side of the sport, Zack could care less about any of that. I realized at that point that I really didn’t care what number we picked, or what lane we would get. I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t mess up what Zack already knew. We are here to have fun and play in the dirt, as long as Zack and everyone else left Friday night and Saturday night with a smile on their faces then our mission was accomplished. Zack told me that Friday night was the best night of his life, to him I say Zack Thank You for allowing me to see World Finals weekend as we all should. It was an Honor to have you by my side.”
Shortly after we returned home from the World Finals we received an email from Zack’s mother thanking us for everything and explaining how special it was for them, she also told us about Zack’s illness we were totally unaware of. He had been diagnosed with JRA which is Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. He is in constant pain, but over the few short days he was able to forget about all that.
In Honor of Zack we are putting up for auction the 2010 World Finals Tailgate off of King Krunch. Be the only person to own the first and only Ford F-350 King Krunch Tailgate to ever have been run at the World Finals. Any and all moneys raised will go to help the family of Zackary Hamilton. The moneys will go to help pay for Medical bills and Medicines that Zackary may need. We ask you to bid high and bid often to show that the Monster Truck community cares. Flame Motorsports will pay for shipping of the part to anywhere in the continental USA, special arrangements can be made for shipment outside the USA. Place your bid at Worldfinalstailgate@kingkrunch.com, all bids will be posted at www.KingKrunch.com during the auction. So please spread the word, Bid and show your support!!  (04/06/10)

Obession Racing Press Release!!:  (Menifee, CA) March 26th and 27th was a big weekend for Obsession Racing, the Las Vegas Monster Jam World Finals event. We were very busy getting ready for this show. When you own two out of seventy trucks on display, you want to make sure that you have two best looking trucks there. We like to make our sponsors proud of the image that we uphold. We want to make them proud that we are representing their company.

This year in Vegas we had a very busy agenda for Obsession Racing. We had both trucks on display and Obsession had a brand new wrap and design. Obsession was encored by George Balhan (driver of Escalade) as the Mohawk warrior debuting his new truck design for next year. Along with the body swaps Rick also was helping Daron Basl crew for the King Krunch Monster truck. Rick was honored to be asked to help crew for David Smith in King Krunch. Rick said it was a lot of work but he really enjoyed working with David, Daron and Jeff and looks forward to working with their team again next year.

Eric Swanson and Jeff Jones signed autographs for the two day display for Obsessed and Obsession. It was a six hour display and got to meet a lot of people and make new fans. We have to give them a big thanks for doing autographs for two days so that Rick could help David Smith and the Flame Motorsports team to be at their best for the Monster Jam show.
Sunday night was the Monster Jam awards banquet. We are proud to mention that Jeff Jones was nominated for Rookie of the year for driving Obsession. We are currently booking spring and summer shows now with both truck and we are looking forward to a successful year.
We are thankful for having such wonderful sponsors and friends that help us to make Obsession Racing a success. For more information on the team, check us out online at www.ObsessionRacing.com!!  (04/06/10)
